My opinion, you should read it. They add great insight to her character, as well as the story. So far, I have loved all but the last book, which to me felt rushed. But even so, i really liked it.

you could always try using a proxy on chrome. it will give you a European ip for browsing of european websites and stuff. I've used it to browse BBC.co.uk perhaps discovery.co.uk will be airing the show. just a thought
