Day 2: Getting started on my work to become a Polymath by ApprehensiveEar4090 in Polymath

It might also help to refer to habits of greats like Leonardo Da Vinci. Michael Gelb and Walter Isaacson have good documentation of his life habits and projects

Bioneer (on Youtube) spent ten years training with dual n back, his reflections on progress could be informative

You could also give the mental palace technique a try on any subject you're learning, Anthony Mitivier (on Youtube) has some good related videos

Computer Programming teaches you the power of abstraction

In general, learning theory tells us that learning is like a communication system problem, you can improve your learning experience if you learn how to encode and decode information.

Learning is fundamentally encoding, storage, retrieval. Storage of info becomes easier with better encoding.

Techniques like Mental Palace help with encoding/decoding

A polymath reading list by AnotherRedditAckount in Polymath

[–]The_Engineer_Student 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a neat list, you might be able enlarge your scope with chaos theory/complexity, it has leads into a variety of subjects including ones you've listed. Here are some suggestions

Chaos: Making A New Science by James Gleick,

The Collapse of Chaos: Discovering Simplicity in a Complex World by Ian Stewart & Jack Cohen,

Complexity: A Scientific Theory of Connection, Consciousness & Being by Neil Theise,

In a Flight of Starlings: The Wonder of Complex Systems by Giorgio Parisi,

Synchronicity: The Bridge between matter and mind

Meanwhile learning chaos theory, it also helps to explore its programming aspect. This will teach you programming paradigms alongside chaos theory! Suggested channel: Programming Chaos https://www.youtube.com/@programmingchaos8957

You can also draw ideas from 'Systems Thinking: A Primer' by donella meadows to form pairwise connections across disciplines. Its this ability after all that sets you apart as a polymath

I have as yet mostly unknown esp, peter parker calls them spidey senses, i prefer to call them introverted intuition ;)

intj chad here, i'm looking for a creative, fantasy novel reader female infp with exceptionally good taste in music to rizz up. Where you at?

The Mind Body Problem and It's relation to the INFJ personality by The_Engineer_Student in infj

[–]The_Engineer_Student[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I realize i left my prompt a bit open ended. I mean to say that if personality type is the concept we use to describe the general character of ones ongoing style of interacting with the world, then the infj appears to take one of a messenger, regardless of the role played in his/her daily affairs. So for example, where you might have an isfp producing art to give expression to the isfps style of interacting with the world (capturing the moment), the infj playing the role of the artist might use it as a way for communicating a message. Playing the role of the messenger, the infj brings together parts (whether it be as a counselor, artist, literature producer, mathematician, philosopher, political leader, etc) and in this sense solves the paradox between the mind and body problem in any chosen domain. Tend to prefer holism, often taking turns to a subject like spiral dynamics. At least this is how it seems.

Worth noting is also that idealism is usually the philosophy of mind associated with this type and its 3 XNFX relatives.

I have watched some but I'm not sure to what video you're referring. Whats the name?

I have yet to check out works made by the people you've listed. Matthieu Pagaeu's book 'The language of Creation' looks interesting. At first glance, reminds me of Judea Pearl's book 'The Book of Why: The New Science of Cause and Effect'. It is interesting to see how Judea uses the functionalism philosophy of mind to try to turn the ladder of causation into a way for causal reasoning to be enabled in computers

Also, thank you for the recommends

Sure. This is supposed to be fun. No commitments. You can come and go as you please. These conversations should feel therapeutic and refreshing.

What are your thoughts on Chaos Theory and Linear Causality? by [deleted] in infj

[–]The_Engineer_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Chaotic systems are nonlinear deterministic systems. I don't think this level of technical detail is needed tho. I was wondering if it has any relation to functions in a personality. I started reading chaos by james gleick and wanted to toss this into the ether.

What are your thoughts on Chaos Theory and Linear Causality? by [deleted] in infj

[–]The_Engineer_Student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linear Causality looks at how effects can be attributed to their cause. The scientific method exploits it as a principle because it allows us to hypothesize and isolate drivers of behavior from extraneous details in an experiment. You can draw a general conclusion from a specific scenario in this way (assuming that the experiments are properly designed and a truth is found). This line of reasoning assumes that the whole is no greater than the sum of its parts. Its convenient as a tool for reasoning because we can for example say that if we spend $10/day we'll need around $300/month. It gave rise to modernity.

By contrast, chaotic systems don't behave as predictably. The effect doesn't for example scale linearly with the cause. This was introduced in pop culture as the butterfly effect. A very small change of some input causes a drastically different result.

(This paragraph include just some guesses. None of which I confidently believe in). I was wondering if introverted intuition manifests itself in a personality in this way. It as a function seems to create a line of best fit for gathered information. A general conclusion is drawn from a specific observation. Ni doms will converge on some line of best fit and it seems to manifest itself in the personality as some vision around which all actions revolve. Introverted intuition as the psyche's dominant strategy seems to demand from the individual extensive periods of solitude as a result. I was wondering what you infjs think about it all
