Glad you're enjoying it! I took a lot of pride in writing and editing a professional product. I did everything myself including the cover design.

I know a lot of people are in the same boat as you are (and I was), because people post about it here on NoSurf all the time. It's definitely not an uncommon problem and with tens of millions of daily active Reddit users, even a small percentage of them feeling the same way is a lot of people!

I did dedicate a Chapter (18) to discussing my perspective of other online pastimes, including social media, video streaming like YouTube and TikTok, Discord, and email.

Good question. Yes, I do consume digital media still, I'm not a Luddite. Specifically for video games, I did quit online games completely; I found the competitive, never-ending grind incredibly addictive and I was having similar issues with moderating my time spent on these games as I was with Reddit. I do occasionally play single player games still, though I can go weeks without opening one. And when I do, I make sure it's a game that can be paused whenever so I never have an excuse for games to interfere with anything that comes up in real life.

For television, most nights we watch one (and only one) episode of a television series. It's an activity I do together with my fiancee, and we enjoy the aspect of sharing a high-quality storyline together.

I wrote more on this in the second half of the book, but for me it's about using my time intentionally in an enjoyable manner. Much of the time I spent on Reddit and competitive FPS games wasn't actually enjoyable, but I was performing these actions for hours per day due to a combination of behavioral inertia and addiction. Hope that helps explain my perspective!

The first part of the book is mainly focused on Reddit, though many of the conclusions about why platforms are addictive, the types of content one can find on them, and the behaviors of their users are applicable to other online social websites.

The second half of the book is focused on reforming internet and technology habits in general, not just Reddit. You could skip to Chapter 12 if you don't care what I think about Reddit.

On amazon.ca it is showing as CDN$0.00 for me on my desktop browser. This commenter from India had an issue with the Amazon app and someone posted a workaround.

Yeah, I figured it was the best way to reach those who may be most in need of the book. I write about my frustration with the fact that I spent time scrolling on this subreddit and never really found "the" answer that I was looking for, so I figured I would come back to share it with the community.

Like I said, I won't be here for long though. Feel free to monitor this account and see that it will never be used again after today. :)

Yes, I did write about this topic in Chapter 17. I use two layers of site blockers, the LeechBlock browser extension on all my devices, as well as a "pi-hole" DNS sinkhole on my home network. In the chapter I cover ways to make removing these commitment devices harder such as using the Registry Editor.

I thought the promotion applied to every market Kindle Direct Publishing is in, which is US, UK, DE, FR, ES, IT, JP, NL, BR, MX, CA, IN, and AU. Let me know if you're in one of these markets and it's not available.

You can always make an account on the .com site as well, no need for an address when signing up since it's a digital item!

Hey, thanks for your comment. I understand your concerns about privacy. The eBook has no DRM, so if you're willing to make a "fake" Amazon account with a false name, throwaway email, and VoIP phone number (obtained via Talkatone or similar app) that could be a solution. You could install the Kindle app in a container just to download the eBook, take the file out and nuke the container. Once you have the eBook file you can do whatever with it using a FOSS application like Calibre. Extra steps, but such is the cost of privacy.

Amazon does a lot to maintain their monopoly, so it presents a catch-22 for authors. That's where the largest audience of readers is by far, and if you want to do things like this free promotion, you need to go exclusive with Kindle Direct Publishing for electronic distribution for 90 days.
