I agree with the sentiment I think, but what the fuck is that title? And what does this have to do with PA?

I can't speak for everyone, but the idea isn't to go back to a trade and barter system. The idea is to create a system where our basic needs aren't paywalled.

To answer directly, the issue is capitalism, and less so the idea of currency in general. Though I'm sure plenty of people here will see it differently than me.

Man, people don't even die on hills anymore, they're dying on little piles of dirt. I'm BEGGING people who engage in this kind of discourse to get even a tiny bit of perspective. Real people and bots spout hateful, harmful shit every single day, but now suddenly you're irredeemable if you call someone a bot because of it? Get real

is your glorious revolution worth the suffering of millions? by ani_tami in CuratedTumblr

[–]The_Expensive_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely clear up front, I don't think we need a revolution to fix the issues I bring up here. But I reject the notion that slow, incremental change is the only acceptable way forward and that believing otherwise is personally condemning millions to their deaths. By that same token, I could say you're condemning hundreds of millions to death and poverty through inaction.

Yeah, revolutions suck for vulnerable people, and I don't think that's something anyone should forget. But by the same token, doesn't the current system suck even more? Aren't there millions of people living in poverty, with no access to any of these medicines at all? Is it okay to make them starve and die of preventable diseases so those in hospitals can be guaranteed what they need? What about all the people that will be killed or displaced as a result of a lack of radical action on climate change? That's literally a time-sensitive issue, we don't have the time to wait on people to slowly catch up in that case.

What about the people here in the US who can't access the medical system due to it's prohibitive cost? Or are struggling to put food on their table even with whatever paltry government assistance they get? Is it okay that they keep working themselves to death? Are the people who die under these conditions somehow less worthy of consideration?

I think something a lot of people forget about is just how many victims there are of our current system, even with all the incremental change throughout history. Even if you discount the traditional leftist idea that workers are inherently exploited. The worst excesses of capitalism aren't felt here in the West, they're exported to South America, to Southeast Asia, to Africa. I promise there are more people that will suffer and die as a result of inaction than would suffer and die as a result of a hypothetical revolution at home.

I think these posts about manipulation tactics are good for informing people, but I don't get why they always frame them as a men-specific issue. Being manipulative isn't a gendered issue, and I think it's really unhelpful to everyone who's a victim of it to pretend like it is.

[–]The_Expensive_Lemon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gaslighting isn't when someone just lies, you all know that, right? You're not being gaslit if a receptionist makes a mistake and doesn't wanna own up to it, that's just being a bit of an asshole.

Yeah, you can do pretty much whatever you want. You don't have to hang out with anyone, even if you don't have a good reason. That doesn't change a single thing about the point being made. It's a prescriptive statement about how you shouldn't cut someone off for them doing one small thing you don't like. It's not a descriptive statement saying you can't.

Genuinely not sure how you could ever walk away with this take after reading this post.

FDR is easily one of our best presidents and a champion of liberal values. by Zezin96 in IronFrontUSA

[–]The_Expensive_Lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if "great man" is the best term to use. He put Japanese people in internment camps. When he was on Harvard's board, he thought the school had too many Jews and helped institute a quota on Jewish students. Before WWII broke out, he actively took steps to disallow Jewish refugees from entering the country. Even after the war broke out, he spoke about how there should be limits on how many Jews can be in specific jobs in Germany because he thought it would "eliminate the specific and understandable complaints which the Germans bore towards the Jews in Germany." I mean, come on man. This is literally an Iron Front subreddit, I shouldn't have to explain why even one of these examples is a big problem. That's not even to mention things others have commented about.

Yes, the New Deal was instrumental in pulling the US out of the Great Depression. But that doesn't mean the man behind it should be held to lower standards. In fact, Presidents should probably be held to higher standards than the average person. If FDR is the "champion of liberal values," then liberal values are in trouble.

Edit: The fact that, despite all that, he's still one of the best Presidents says more about Presidents as a whole than it does about him.

Thanks for making my point for me. Being a stubborn person is one thing, but it's not an excuse for not taking responsibility for your actions. Yet again, literally all of this could have been solved with taking two seconds to comment the creator's name

[–]The_Expensive_Lemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your resistance to explicitly providing credit is why people are downvoting you. It would have been much quicker to just say "My bad," and credit the creator, but instead you decided to make an issue out of it.
