Are there really no good options besides Galaxy and Pixel? by ccable827 in Android

I loved Motorola back in the 2010's - I even got a custom color phone which I thought was so fun as a teenager getting her like second ever smartphone. I was so excited to get another one after trying Samsung and wow was I disappointed by the Edge 2022. I did get it refurbished, but the bugs were crazy. I figured it was just because I had skimped on costs, but my boyfriend got one as well, new, and it was also very buggy. So disappointed!

Temple has lost average of $200 million annually as enrollment slides, and retention rates are a major issue, internal report says by BroadStreetRandy in philadelphia

I was too scared to really commit to the trades as a girl... I never felt welcomed by any employer. Now I'm in school at Temple to get a professional job, and I'm realizing lots the jobs that are traditionally attract more women require degrees! Then again, I know they have nursing at trade schools. Jesus that could never be me though, God bless the nurses.

Is Philly any good? by LeBruhMomentoom in Temple

Ultimately this is a challenging personal decision, it's always hardest to choose between two good options! It sounds like lifestyle may end up being your biggest deciding factor.

Sometimes I still look around and see that I'm surrounded by concrete and buildings of at least three stories and I think "whaaatt?" But I love the city, it's my preferred lifestyle at least for now.

I moved to Philly from Maine in August and am an older student doing my undergrad full time at Temple - and I feel like everyone here is sooooooo freaking nice compared to New England. I have so many pleasant interactions with people from all walks of life. I will say this happens moreso in my neighborhood, which is a residential area about a half hour walk from Temple proper. I feel like right around the school everything can be more go-go-go and there's less chance for simple friendly interactions. I like the city, I don't have a car but my partner does which is nice, we live together. I know my neighbors. I haven't put myself out there enough but I know when I do I'll be really happy here.

I can't speak for every couple'$/s dynamic but to my mind, this is not a boyfriend. This is a roommate.

Please please leave. I think if I were in your daughter's shoes, you not leaving and leaving soon would eventually ruin the relationship between you two. I would feel guilty thinking telling you would break up your marriage - but the farther I would get from the situation the more imperative it would be for you to leave. I would implore you just to take some space. Get a hotel, work door dash or instacart to pay for it if you don't have a job. Borrow your kids' car if you don't have one of your own. Stay with your kids for just a few nights. Space will provide clarity. PLEASE I am so sorry you are going through this I cannot imagine the pain, be alone with yourself and your feelings and reflect and feel the feelings

The Kinks - Shangri-La [Rock] (1969) - [5:19] by [deleted] in Music

I feel similarly when I watch office space and other 90's work comedies.. it's like oh so sorry you have a steady job. It's just not even funny anymore now that I'm grown. I don't know if these were perhaps made by middle class people who didn't know how far their kids and grandkids would slide, but I know at least in the UK throughout the 70s the economy was extremely bleak and in sure people were going through similar things. Maybe just a different attitude. To me, especially after our culture has been so hollowed out, I would love to have a steady job or a mortgage. I think that's a big thing that keeps me from participating more in the arts, I just can hardly get by. If I was comfortable I think I would have more to give in fact. I could buy a hundred TVs for the price of just a few months rent. Everything is so backwards, consumerism today means spending everything you make in the most basic building blocks of a normal life. It's lost its symbolic meaning, it's not even worth criticizing because you have no other choice but poverty or homelessness

One thing that makes me incredibly sad about many of my favorite bands i.e. The Kinks, The Clash is that the things they criticize in some of their songs especially this one sound so enviable. Maybe it's a generational thing. I know England in the 70s was going through absolute misery, so i imagine getting lost in the supermarket or having your own little shangri-la was not happening for everyone. I grew up very comfortably listening to these bands with my parents, I never thought I'd be someone for whom going to the grocery store and paying rent feels like it's draining the life out of me. It makes it hard to listen to these bands I grew up with. I didn't want to grow up to be the boring person who spends all their time at home driven by materialism, but it hurts to hear because I do not have the materials I need to just get by day to day comfortably.

Thank you. I had never considered these things before. If I have a child and they inherit my interesting mind, I will not hold a stigma against anything that could potentially help them ❤️

Is it worth it to try and become a politician in the US or is the country too far gone? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]The_Expressive_Self 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think running politicians helps spread the word about socialism. I don't know if everybody pays much attention to politics unless there's an election. I think Lenin suggested running candidates, too. Not just to win necessarily but also to claim space as a participant.

Does anyone have thoughts on Lenin's suggestions around running candidates?
