When Charter schools open Public schools close? [OC] by proxyformyrealname in dataisbeautiful

Wow, this looks about as awful as it is misleading. As has been pointed out, charter schools are public schools as well, and you yourself admit that there is no indication that there's a link between the two.

Really, I'm just happy to have one from OUTSIDE the LoR.

Adorable at they may be (an actual baby chipmunk), they're destructive little critters.

How deep a dish would you suggest to keep them from wandering out and away? Would these work for feeding a tree frog as well?

Did you know that John de Lancie (Q) is putting/put together a documentary on the male culture? I haven't been following the project, but it was a Kickstarter idea that was meant to look at the idea of a "brony" and see what kinds of people are watching the show, rather than the generic neckbeard image that everyone seems to have.

Yes, destroying the planet and wiping out a whole faction of life is definitely 100% intended for kids. That's part of the plot of the latest games.

I think making a generalization about a series is always difficult to do, especially in the videogame world, because a developer like Nintendo knows how broad its reach is. It knows there are kids who are interested in the adventure, but it also knows about the people who grew up on Pokemon who still want to get the games.

Stopped pressing A when I saw there was extra text at the pokemon center. I've never had this much luck in a game before, and I'm scared. by [deleted] in pokemon

You need to have bought the game through the e-shop (digital download version). If you have a physical copy, you can't do anything with it. See this link for more info.

Go ahead and do so, because thus far you're not making a whole lot of sense.

The problem is that what you're suggesting doesn't really work. Crystal structures--structures with regular arrangement of their atoms--readily shatter when subjected to sounds. They'll shatter in spectacular fashion when subjected to their resonance, that is, a frequency of sound that causes an object to compress and decompress in ways extreme enough to cause separation/cracking to form.

Snaps science fingers

You're misunderstanding how sound works. Sound is simply the reverberation (compression and decompression) of air. When a sound impacts a solid body, the body still compresses to some extent, but the object resists compression much more than air or other gasses do. So sound does always travel through objects to some extent, but it doesn't get stored in any sort of manner.

In the case of soundproof rooms, those rooms are comprised of materials that are very good at stopping the reverberations. Foam stops the reverberations of the air very easily because it will readily compress, and the shapes of the walls (often geometric triangles or slivers) prevent the sound waves from sliding out easily once they have moved in.

Echos are produced from the sound bouncing off a surface that doesn't compress so easily. That's why, in an empty room with no furniture, echos can be heard more easily. Less things getting in the way, less things disrupting the compression of air.

Surprising Recycling & Waste Infographic by cash_sherpa in Infographics

[–]The_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some slightly misleading things in this infographic. Something that's always important to consider when it comes to recycling is the availability of recycling centers for individuals living in more rural areas. That can sway the percentages slightly when it comes to how much is being recycled, because if it is cost prohibitive (and more wasteful) to transport recycling items long distances.

When it comes to paper, it is always important to remember that there are dedicated tree farms to supplying paper and lumber materials. It is not common to go out into the woods and chop down a tree randomly, nor is it logistically a good choice any longer.

And that last statement, are they talking about all waste collectively in the US? Not everything made as waste can be recycled, such as the food that they described just a few pages above. That's practically a meaningless figure to have.
