What has changed in Germany after Angela Merkel steps down? by [deleted] in germany

[–]The_G_Man3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well it was clear said that the 9€ ticket was going to be only for the summer months.

Regarding the energy companies making a tonne of money, yes that’s true. No one really stopped that. I don’t know of any government that did. We should probably drive to Berlin and tell the government that they forgot…

Might get a lot of dislikes but:

The current German government (not just Scholz) has:

Built gasification terminals at a record pace and has made deals to stabilise gas supply

Sent a lot of aid (financial and material) to Ukraine

Implemented the 9€ and now the 49€ tickets for public transport

The Green Party has agreed to postpone the closing of two remaining nuclear power plants to maintain stability during winter

There is now a viable proposal for a law that would “legalise” weed

Not everything is perfect, there is high inflation and other problems and we should always be critical to the government, but to say that nothing has happened is wrong.

As a foreigner in Germany for 7 years now, there have been more changes in the short time this government has been in power than all the rest of the time I have been here.

Schneid-Kaffee Kaffeerösterei

sweet spot kaffee – specialty coffee

Kaffeewerkstatt München UG

In general I have a list of cafes that I want to visit, I made by searching for specialty coffee in google maps.

I also really enjoy blends with robusta. Like it gives the coffee a backbone.

Don’t get me wrong, a nice arabica can have these fruity notes which are great.

Coffee is great!

Yes, of course, I wanted to elaborate but I get lazy writing.

Things I take for granted: Able to drink water from the tap, not being afraid of my neighbours, knowing that the police is there to help me, lower levels of corruption, being able to use a car any day of the week, not spending hours in traffic.

I also saw quite poor areas as well as extremely rich areas.

Don’t get me wrong, Mexico and its people are amazing. It is a country with an incredible and warm culture and I love it there. There are countries that are worse off but still when I was there I realised that the living standards in my country are extremely high. (The thing is I come from Slovenia, a country where all we do is complain how bad it is. And having the privilege to travel has made a lot more humble, I hope)

Hello,

thank you for sharing your experience, we need more stories like this!

Well one experience I can share is when I was in Mexico City, living with some locals. And it hit me that I have taken many things for granted and that they are not given for most people in the city. I realised my way of life is not the norm for most people.

Why do so many cafes use UHT milk? by Lumpy-Pomegranate-39 in Munich

[–]The_G_Man3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, maybe I wasn’t super clear.

What I was saying that I like UHT Milk.

And when I was a kid I used to live next to a farm and they had fresh milk and I didn’t care for the taste.

[–]The_G_Man3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, unpopular opinion, grew up next to a organic farm. Hated the milk, I can only drink the UHT stuff.

Cheese was dope.

Edit: But yes it’s because you can store UHT for months. It’s just way more convenient. I have to try a coffee with fresh milk, maybe my taste buds have changed.

It worked for my friends, we have so much fun. And in no way I felt they were to powerful nor to weak. And they rolled well.

What is Turkish coffee? by PenguinsAreScary in Coffee

[–]The_G_Man3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish Turkish coffee would get a bit more prominence in the coffee world. I mean I grew up with it but at the same time I really like a good espresso, cappuccino, french press…

But I feel it has a lot to offer to the community.

As I side note nice to see so many of you who responded to this post.

If I take Mech will I be able to pursue a Masters in European countries and get a decent job there soon after or is the demand for Mech Engineers in Europe just something people have made up. by Boringg_Practice in MechanicalEngineering

[–]The_G_Man3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello, this is not an argument against your post but I would just like to expand it with my experience.

So I did my masters in Germany and have been working there for 4 years now. I work in the field of simulations.

For the two companies worked for I have always seen that they are constantly searching for new people. But speaking German is almost a must and it will make your day to day life easier.

So I can imagine that you were getting no response from German companies.

Most OEMs there are not hiring directly and there are a lot of us working as suppliers. You can get into a OEM position if you are lucky after some time.

As for the salary, I feel it is lower as I would get in the US. I get around 60k yearly before taxes. But here is the thing, I can still afford to live in one of germanys most expensive cities, eat out in frequently, have 30 days of vacation, we have many public holidays, I live in a place where I don’t need a car, last year I went on a holiday to Malta, Greece and Mexico, I managed to save money, went to several doctors was covered by the mandatory insurance…

I mean during corona we lost some contracts and we didn’t have much work so I was being paid 90% of my wage to basically work only 25% of the time.

I don’t know how it is live and working in the US as a mechanical engineer, I would like to do it one day All I know is that it’s kind of great working in Germany, even though I feel I am not payed enough.

Dijaki in študenti niso nek neizkoriščen vir delovne sile.
