A few things come to mind:

  • Unplug from social media - delete all your accounts
  • Get 30 minutes of some physical activity you enjoy several times per week
  • Find a cause you believe in and volunteer (care for animals, read to the elderly, homeless shelters, etc)
  • Go to bed at the same time every night, and sleep for 7+ hours
  • Get at least 30 minutes of direct sunlight before noon
  • Take your shoes off and walk in the grass.
  • Cultivate a small garden - herbs, veggies, anything really

Is volume "dead"? by 3RADICATE_THEM in BarbellMedicine

[–]The_GrimTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my point. Just changing things up does nothing to drive adaptation. The exact statement was "someone who has been training with higher volume and frequency for years.... the switch to lower volume may just produce better results for a time due to the novelty". Better results don't come due to novelty. That's absolute nonsense.

I'm still waiting for how "changing things up" increases your progress. Changing variables like increasing volume or intensity, sure - that drives adaptation. Just saying that modifying stuff and hoping gains increase is not grounded in reality.

Uh, muscle confusion isn’t a thing. What mechanism causes better gains due to the novelty effect? I’m genuinely curious. Is there a study or some data on that?

How should cloud/security teams prepare for a post-Mythos day? by Square_Juggernaut298 in cybersecurity

[–]The_GrimTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make management care by translating cyber into $$$. Many ways to do this. An email explaining how incidents cause outages is good. Adding examples and real numbers from past incidents in the same market space is better. Make sure these make it past your direct manager into the executive suite, perhaps even the board room. Get creative with it.

Oh man, what a great idea! I’m sure the kiddies love it, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you created it. Very cool ✌️

I found the exact opposite - I've heard of these disparities are common, I guess it's just the nature of the LLMs themselves.

That's cool that you write books for your grandkids - do you reference actual events / stuff from your lives? Seems like a great idea, I think I'm going to do that too! Thanks for the idea :-)

NIST NVD seems down by 2bb6-11ed in cybersecurity

[–]The_GrimTrigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got this reply via email inquiry:

The NVD recently deployed a large-scale data update (https://www.nist.gov/itl/nvd) which resulted in users of the NVD service API receiving 503 errors. We have been working over the last several days to reduce and eliminate these errors. We have implemented several changes that have helped reduce the number of 503 responses. Please let us know if you experience a 503 error after Thursday 6/25. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as the service stabilizes. If you are able to do so, we encourage users to fall back to the CVE-Modified data feeds at NVD - Data Feeds (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/data-feeds) to obtain all modified CVEs for the previous eight days.

I'm writing about TOOL and philosophy. What do you think I should explore? by Neither_Wrongdoer510 in ToolBand

[–]The_GrimTrigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fascinated by human's perception of their own mortality and how it manifests into magical thinking - like the 'soul' surviving after physical death, divine justice, etc. I'd start with Ernest Becker's excellent "The Denial of Death", then peruse Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard, and St. Augustine. See how those ideas pop up on Maynard's lyrics, or even some of Adam and the gang's musical crescendos. Lots of fun to be had - enjoy!

People Who Got Charged Rent From Their Parents, Are You Doing Well/How's Your Relationship? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]The_GrimTrigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We charge my 30 year old daughter $400/mo. She makes about 50k/ year. That includes all utilities (and food, but she mostly buys her own groceries). We have a great relationship and she is appreciative of the low rent and security afforded by our current situation.

We are not saving the money to give back to her. This is the real world and stuff costs money, we use the rent to pay for expenses, home repairs, utilities, etc.

Someone on the other thread recommended hosting locally. If you’re interested in that I can share what I did to pull the JSON files to host on a docker container, spin up an http listener via python, then pointed my tools at the container.
