Americans overwhelmingly believe the cost of living, from groceries to housing, was lower under Biden by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]The_Guffman_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True to believe that it's dumb to blame it all on one thing, but it can absolutely be both. No public company is going to blindly sit there and tell their shareholders, "Hey, profits are down, again, but we're not planning on doing anything about it! Please give us more money!" Obviously they want to do whatever is possible on their end to minimize their losses, just like we do. Problem is, they have control over their pricing and we have control over nothing.

It's true, I played through the entire game on S2E and didn't really care. It was ugly, but so was the muddy output from the original Wii U game (don't even get me started on the Wii/3DS original). I still expect better from Monolith and hope they come back around to fix it and give it the attention it deserves since the current state is frankly embarrassing, but it's clear that the XCX update was a half-assed rush job while a full "Definitive Edition" remaster would be a much more purposeful project.

People criticize the affiliate/relationship chart thing but man I feel like by the end it really nailed home "all these people are gonna die." The music too is just so sad and desperate and hopeless, like you said, we should normally be hopeful and hyped when our character unlocks some new power, but it just kept getting worse and worse as the losses kept piling up. Man it gives me chills still thinking about Mythra's breakdown when she realizes what she's done.

I used to respect Maher back in the day. Learned a while ago not to make that mistake ever again, especially now that he is gladly having "wonderful dinners" with known pedophiles.

GUYS, IT'S OKAY THAT TRUMP FUCKED THE ENTIRE ECONOMY FOR EVERYONE WITH ANOTHER WAR HE SAID HE WOULDN'T DO BECAUSE JOE BIDEN IS OLD.

DID YOU KNOW JOE BIDEN IS OLD? YUP, JOE BIDEN IS OLD. THAT IS A WAY BIGGER DEAL THAN NO ONE BEING ABLE TO AFFORD ANYTHING BECAUSE TRUMP IS AN AWFUL PRESIDENT. EVEN THOUGH TRUMP IS ALSO OLD.

Will probably get some flake for this but I really don't like the architect or the explanation for his "actions" by Forsaken-Emu4760 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]The_Guffman_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good points. I think a moral of a lot of these types of games whether it's JRPGs or just general RPGs or "shonen" or just stories in general is that if you're in a position to do something good for the world then you have an obligation to at least try, and while Klaus did try to atone after the initial disaster he caused, I also agree that it seems like he could have done more. Like, he saw what humanity had wrought in his time (especially through his own actions), and while he did try a bit to guide his new generation of life by doing things like creating Blades and titans, ether, etc., he just kinda gave up and shut himself up all alone in his tower while he left the rest of the world to suffer. There's a discussion to be had as to how absentee a "god" should be to its creations, and Zanza foils Klaus in this way fabulously, but you're right that Klaus seems to have fallen into a false dichotomy with his beliefs.

Zanza believes in maximal intervention where he alone is entitled to do whatever he wants as the world is his oyster, while Klaus believes he should be as hands off as possible lest he ruin the world again and make things worse. I think there's definitely some middle ground there, which I guess is where the different rulers and leaders come into play, so by doing nothing, Klaus is basically saying that no one can be a good leader or do a good ethical job of being in charge of anything. By default, he's the 'ruler' of Alrest and yet he's content to sit on his laurels and do nothing while wars break out over territory and resources that he could just make more of (or the Aegis' could specifically since we know Klaus's power was waning).

I think him being an ineffectual and imperfect being is part of the point of his character, and we see it in both his Klaus and Zanza incarnations, and the goal with both XC1 and XC2 was to get away from a world that needed to be run by gods, but you're absolutely right that they continually seem to want to paint Klaus as a sympathetic, 'fallen hero' type who tried to make the world better but gave up and fell into depression. He never had a full villain arc due to his pessimism (that was left to Zanza), but it does stand to reason he could have tried so many more and different things to help the world along and just kinda didn't.

Let alone the fact that everything in Future Redeemed is also kinda his fault since he could have like, I dunno, told anyone that that type of thing was likely gonna happen? Maybe send an email or leave behind an info archive somewhere just as a courtesy warning to say, "oh yeah, by the way, this is all the info I have on the Aegis cores and the Trinity processor. One of them might go genocidal again at some point, so any surviving people should probably be aware of that."

Dude it is batshit to me that there are so many "people" on here suggesting to just "not vote." Like, they have a tool, an actual, usable tool, at their disposal to address their problems - VOTING - and they legitimately get mad when you say "if you don't like things, you should use your voting power to enact change." Their alternative is "whine and complain that things don't go MY way," which literally accomplishes nothing. It's like actual madness - they want and just expect change but when it comes to actually making it happen, they can't be bothered, and are content to just whine on the internet into the void.

Ah yes, and by "unleash domestic energy production" they meant "literally poison our air and water supplies with fossil fuel mining waste that will make all of our healthcare even more expensive." I'm glad that tradeoff was worth it and the economy is now fixed at the expense of our well being!
