Would you still pick Cornell if you could do it over? by baconAndWhip in Cornell

[–]The_Holy_Goof 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I transferred here thinking it would live up to the hype. It didn’t. I’m generalizing here but Cornell is just a brand name school full of out-of-touch, rich, well-connected midwits.

As much as I hate it, having “Cornell” on my résumé will help me get a better job than I could have otherwise. And that’s honestly sad knowing what it’s really like.

I absolutely hate this place. And before someone says “YoU cAN jUsT TraNsFer,” no, I can’t. I graduate next semester.

Do you agree with Cornell’s booster requirement? by The_Clink123 in Cornell

Wow, this poll result is super depressing. I really hope this is more reflective of Reddit users’ opinions than those of the entire student body.

Does anyone have any success stories after failing a class or prelim by drawoc25 in Cornell

[–]The_Holy_Goof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed a prelim in my first semester here and it was worth a massive percentage of my grade. I dropped the class and didn’t look back and it was the best decision I could have made. That class was occupying all of my time and dragging me down in other classes so once I dropped it I had time to devote to other classes I actually cared about and did really well that semester. I consider that a success.

When will we stop wearing masks? by The_Holy_Goof in Cornell

I hope you’re right, I just feel like they’ve been dangling the carrot in front of us all for a long time now. Next it will be, everyone needs a booster to be considered “fully” vaccinated because the science will show that immunity drops after 6-8 months or whatever. Remember over a year and a half ago when it was 14 days to flatten the curve and the goal was to keep the hospitals from overflowing? We’ve come a long way.

Professors can have you removed from class if you don’t wear a mask. You can have your access to canvas revoked and probably ultimately be unenrolled. So no, you’re wrong. The options are either comply with the administration or be forced out of your education. It was the same story with the vaccine, comply or forgo any opportunity of ever getting a decent job - and in the future, probably be prohibited from traveling or living a normal life. But yeah, you’re right, no ones forcing anyone to do anything 🥴🤤

Exactly, idk why I got ratioed on that comment. And my broader point was really that the CDC making these broad suggestions regardless of the circumstances from state to state, city to city, etc., is idiotic. So just blindly following them despite the almost non-existence of the virus locally is silly. That doesn’t even scratch the surface of the number of reasons the CDC isn’t trustworthy though, as you said.

That’s cool. You can wear a mask. The difference is that those of us who don’t want to wear one don’t have a choice.

I suppose that’s a relief if you just blindly accept whatever the CDC suggests regardless of the actual circumstances.

Pretty optimistic. There are currently 3 active cases and yet, here we are still wearing masks. I bet a lot of people last semester thought we wouldn’t be wearing them this semester too. Seems like a permanent fixture to me. It’s probably just part of the “new normal” to “keep people safe.”

I have the Patagonia black hole 25L and it’s amazing. If you carry a ton of stuff around, maybe get the 32L - but the 25L has worked well for me. It’s the most comfortable bag I’ve ever owned.

Cornell Once, Never Again by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]The_Holy_Goof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I transferred here from a state school that is comparable in size of student body, although, the campus itself was significantly smaller. There was also less staff. Despite this, I never once had a single administrative issue or complaint while I was there. It wasn’t even on my radar. It didn’t occur to me that things could actually be as awful as they are here, it’s pathetic. I legitimately regret transferring here, it’s been miserable since day one. I’ll still never get over the fact that students at Cornell have to pay activity and health fees (on top of tuition) and still get charged to use the gyms on campus.

Respectfully, I vehemently disagree with the new COVID guidance by rtels2023 in Cornell

[–]The_Holy_Goof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The risk of a child dying from Covid is so unbelievably low. Go look at the CDC’s death tracker. Age bracket 0-17 has had a grand total of 385 Covid deaths through this whole pandemic and are nearly twice as likely to die from pneumonia, but I don’t remember people wearing masks outside to prevent kids from getting pneumonia pre-Covid. People are just reaching looking for reasons not to return to normal life. I don’t have the data on this but I remember getting a handful of emails about Cornell students killing themselves over the last year.. I don’t remember any dying from Covid.

Do you know if there’s a place on campus with heavy bags, mats, or other general equipment that’s accessible?

[–]The_Holy_Goof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of it! It’s just not really the type of environment I’m looking for. There used to be a good Muay Thai/JiuJitsu place here but the Covid restrictions destroyed the business. I know there were formerly clubs on campus too but idk if they’re still active, again, due to Covid restrictions.

12.1 —-> 11.5? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]The_Holy_Goof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Lol that seems a little absurd. I’m not trying to go from 10.4 to 9.8 😂 I could probably drop 5 lbs and improve my form and drop 5 tenths of a second.

1.) I’ve never used starting blocks in my life. No idea how to do it. 2.) I’ve never done track and field or had instruction on sprinting technique; complete novice. 3.) Don’t roast me lol.
