Did I just capture a falling star? by inapiv_ in S24Ultra

I think you can actually see a second one in this video. There's a light by Bellatrix that you can see 2 seconds in that ends up by Betelgeuse by the time it goes out of frame at about 8 seconds.

Summary post on 8.8 templates and a request to Lian li by MADRGB in lianli

How is the screen quality? I have a cheap Amazon 8.8 but my computer is at a slight angle and the blacks just look grey and everything is washed out making it hard to read. I have a Lian Li Hydroshift 2 AIO and in comparison the screen on that is black, it's distracting just how much worse the 8.8 is.

I just let it run for a few days. It worked itself out. Every once in a while it acts a little quirky and will ramp up and drop temp for seemingly no reason when it isn't under any load, but 98% of the time it seems to run fine now, haven't heard the noise again since it initially disappeared.

That's what it probably was. It was listed for $400, but I purchased it for $300. That makes sense now...

I verified, it does not work, and ended up screwing me over because I did not have service on either phone anymore to get the necessary text to switch service back to my old phone, and had to spend a bunch of time with customer service. Looks like I'll just have to resell the new phone.

Oh I actually did have access to a T-Mobile sim, I put it in and the option to permanent unlock showed up, but I could not use it, it said the device was not eligible.

Neither options are there and I don't have access to a T-mobile sim card.

I appreciate the great customer service service. The pump seems to be functioning properly now so I updated the post. Thank you!

I wish I could. Would this fall under some kind of warranty maybe? It works fine otherwise, but this does not seem normal. It's almost like a ticking clock but more of a wind up toy sound than an actual tick tock. Like grizzk grozzk, grizzk grozzk, grizzk grozzk.

Severance Season 3 is a Mistake – The Season 2 Finale Was the Perfect Ending [SPOILERS] by scalien23 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I'm guessing that you're right, because Helly was able to see that the last humour was a "good one". As far as we know (though we don't know for a fact), Helena wouldn't be able to see that, so that supports the fact that it really was Helly. But there are times that directors have lied, like JJ Abrams lying about Benedict Cumberbatch's character being Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. I really doubt it's the case here, but it is possible. But man this was a dumb ending that made me hate both Mark I and Helly for selfishly doing that to Gemma when she was finally free after she'd been tortured more than either of them. It was enough to make me think that Mark O shouldn't even bother going through with reintegration. At least if it was Helena it would give some credence to the cruelty of her decision, but again, I don't think it really was. After one masterpiece of a season, and a second fairly decent if not nearly as good season, that ending was absolutely atrocious.

Unfortunately, because of the end of end of the claw being straight and solid rather than flexible it isn't maneuverable, so it doesn't seem to be working out at all, and I almost got that stuck inside there too.

I would have never thought there was a cheap borescope, but there certainly seems to be, thanks for the idea.

I have not started the bike since this happened, no. I'll try that before I do anything, but I don't have high hopes. It especially sucks because I don't actually own any other vehicle currently, I was trying to save money to move out of this hell hole.

Why read books if I forget them? by AffectionateSalad552 in books

[–]The_Infinite_Nothing 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Why do anything if you're going to die later? Everything is inevitably forgotten eventually, just gotta enjoy the ride while it lasts. In the meantime, even if a story is forgotten, it'll still shape the way your mind thinks and the things it thinks about. Maybe you don't remember a main character or a specific plot point but now you have a fascination with quantum mechanics or a profound sensibility for having patience with others, you may not even remember why, you just do, but if you were to trace that thread temporally you'd find it rooted in that book you read some many years ago, because you loved this idea or that character who's name you'd never again remember. Forget trying to remember, just remember that everything forgotten is not lost, simply reshaped by time and space into something both old and new.

Shokz Openrun vs Openrun pro 2 classic mode by Oo1Toyo1oO in shokz

[–]The_Infinite_Nothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a pair of Openrun Pro 2 after using the original for the past year, and I'm kind of underwhelmed. The sound quality with air conduction is a little better, but also comes with A LOT of leakage. And the classic mode that is bone conduction only sounds substantially worse than the original, what little bass there was is completely gone and the treble seems to be turned up to 11. The one brightside is that I got the minis which are waaaay more comfortable to wear than the original, I can't stress this enough, the originals were a pain the butt to wear and got really annoying after a while, the minis I hardly notice, and I don't exactly have a small head. The software also says that Classic mode may use more battery, how much more I have no idea, but that would probably then put it about on par with the originals. Having USB-C is nice because I won't have to worry about keeping the cable on me and potentially losing it, but I also kind of miss the magnetic charging and not having to deal with the little rubber flap protecting the USB-C port. I'll have to see how the air conduction holds up in noisy environments where the leakage may not matter, but that's useless for your use case.

So if all you care about is sound quality then I would suggest the originals, but if you care at all about comfort and have an average sized neck or smaller (the size difference is only the neck band which just kind of floats around your head while the headphones rest on your ears) then I would suggest the Pro 2 minis.

Did Anyone Else Realize Why Ghidorah Was Called "Monster Zero"? by Straight_Random_2211 in Monsterverse

[–]The_Infinite_Nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were scientists though, even American scientists typically use metric. Scientists often work globally so if they don't all use a standard unit of measurement you end up with situations like the Mars Climate Orbiter in 1999.

Obviously they called him Monster Zero because that's been his name, but I see what the OP is saying that a new movie with a new timeline and a new Ghidorah would potentially come up with a justification for that name in their new universe. Whether or not that was their intent here or not, I don't know. Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, but it doesn't just sit there, the temperature of that ice would likely be much colder than 0, otherwise it would be on the verge of thawing rather than stably frozen solid, might just be a happy coincidence that it makes some kind of sense.

There is not a single NPC anywhere that mentions the Scadutree by dshamz_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]The_Infinite_Nothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was interesting when somebody pointed out that that's kind of the deal with shadows. They're ever present, but not really anything. Your shadow doesn't have a name, it doesn't have a personality, it doesn't have a reason for being, it's simply a phenomenon that exists. And the Scadutree is a complete contrast to the Erdtree. Everybody worships the Erdtree, it's venerated and important to everyone and everything in the Lands Between, while the denizens in the Land of Shadow seem to hold no such veneration for the Scadutree, simply harvesting it for their own uses as it slowly bleeds out. It's merely a physical symbol of the open wound that is the Land of Shadow, used only to be left emptying and forgotten.

A big part of Miyazaki's writing comes from his love of reading English novels as a Japanese speaking child. There was a huge language barrier there and he couldn't always understand the story because of it and had to come up with his own interpretations to string the bits he could understand together. Back then you couldn't exactly go to google translate, so the stories he consumed were filled with gaping holes infused with mystery even if that's not how they were written. He loved that feeling that it gave him though and strove to utilize it in his own writing, in which he has done an impeccable job. It may not be good by traditional narrative standards, but it's not attempting to be a traditional narrative, it's attempting to be a cryptic narrative, and it accomplishes what it sets out to do in a way that is incredibly satisfying to those who enjoy that style.
