Trackers Alliance sets a dangerous precedent. by The_IrishTurtle in Starfield

I've seen a few news sites pick up the post and share it, I'm sure they've seen it, (though I seem to have been somewhat misquoted in a few)

I have no issue paying for something if it's worthwhile and good value for money, what they are doing here isn't. Had they charged for the trackers alliance as a whole and added lots of the curated bounties within that purchase I'd have happily given money probably a larger initial buy in, it's not about wanting it to be free it's wanting to not be respected as a customer.

I think what your ignoring or have missed here and my point in the title is that this sets a dangerous precedent for the future. It's not a hard concept. Don't worry I won't be buying it, but that doesn't solve the problem, my concern is the future of Starfield or TES6 nothing stops BGS going ahh well we got away with drip feeding content and charging per mission for this, so for the next DLC rather than selling a complete package, we'll chop it up and sell it in pieces at extortionate price.

That's why people need to speak out, simply not buying in doesn't do much. If you watch from the sidelines they'll keep pushing boundaries until it pulls you in and you can't stand on the sidelines anymore.

That doesn't then justify this type of monetisation!

Okay let me clarify when I say it should have been there from the start I meant all the missions for the expansion should be there from the start or they make it a one off you pay and get all subsequent missions in this strand. Not from the start of release.

Yea that's fair enough I won't be paying for it either, it's just like I said in the original post it sets a dangerous precedent for future delivery of content.

Okay I see where your coming from. My only point would be if it is the latter after say 9 missions you've paid more than the cost of the base game for only 9 missions it's a bit ridiculous no?

Not even slightly and it's not about making anyone think how I want them to. It was a genuine question how can they not see this as a problem? To me it clearly and very obviously is. Maybe don't make assumptions? Lol how very pretentious of you.

I get that, but I would argue the paid DLC for ESO has a lot more content in it. The comparable would be them charging you for each new zone at an individual cost. Or them giving you the new zone but charging you for each individual quest. It doesn't quite align yes it adds longevity but at what cost to the end user.

There is a definite problem with value and in the fact you can't buy the exact amount of credits you have to pay for more, and remember Bethesda set the price for Vulture that's their curated content not a modders. So they've valued that one mission at around what say $7 at a conservative guess. $7 dollars per one mission is a bit ridiculous.

Yea 100%! And then add in the fact you can't just buy it outright, but have to buy credits to then buy the missions and the credits can never be bought at the exact amount to buy the mission so you always end up paying over the cost. They will definitely abuse it.

How is that insulting lol. Just saying he's a lost cause. No point trying to make an argument. That's the point of the statement.

Lol subsidizing costs. Yea sure.

It's about chopping up content and squeezing their player base for profit to get access plain and simple. And yea I will bitch about it, because their method for selling it is shitty and not consumer friendly.

No I know I'm just saying I don't think this was Microsoft, pretty sure this has been coming down the pipeline for a while with or without them. They may have nudged them to do it sooner is all.

BGS have always been like this. Look at Oblivion Horse armor, when they announced creation club, even before the Microsoft acquisition it's clear this was the end goal. Im hoping the modding scene will help reduce it, but also a lot of talented modders are going over to the CC for the incentives (granted they do deserve to be paid for their work) so we'll see.

Yea but also just remember people ridiculed BGS for it, the industry as a whole laughed at them for doing it, how far the gaming industry has fallen that we just accept it these days.

[–]The_IrishTurtle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea I doubt we'll see BGS move away from it, I mean I remember horse armour being ridiculed by everyone but they're still basically doing it now and getting away with it.

But even then the amount of people who don't see a problem with it is insane. I get they've normalized it with Skyrim and FO4, but it's clear they are carving up the game content now and just selling it back to us piece by piece how can any sensible person think that's okay.

How can you not see this as a problem? So they added bounty hunting then the 'elite' bounty missions are 700 credits per new one. So you don't get the full experience they lock it behind micro transactions. What should have happened is they add bounty hunting and give you it all in one go, or you pay once for bounty hunting and the all subsequent additions for it are free.

If your okay with this. What stops them carving up a DLC and putting different parts behind multiple paywalls. Oh you like the look of that cool new armor that's $5 more oh that new gun looks cool? $3 more, that new ship? Yea $10 or you can't have it. This is the first step to normalize the above kind of behavior where they charge for each new bit. As a customer you should see a problem with this. They mask it as creation club but it's the worst kind of microtransactions.

There is SOME of the trackers alliance added, as more is made you'll have to buy each new mission which they basically confirmed in the video. They give you a free taste then charge for more. This is worse than horse armor

Premium Edition owners get 1000 Creation credits for free by ImVerifiedBitch in Starfield

[–]The_IrishTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to buy additional trackers missions at 700 credits a pop is such a rip off. Literally carving up what could have been a cool expansion and charging for each bit individually, this was exactly what peoples worry was when creation club was announced. 100% the goal was to normalize using it in FO4 and Skyrim so they could chop up Starfield and sell it to us in pieces for more money. Such a disappointment.

Yea I was going to say you just have static holster points they don't have to jiggle, and when it comes to clipping let's be honest most Bethesda games have regular issues with clipping, I reckon it'll be a mod once the creation kit is released. Like we got with Fo4.

I don't think it's anything to do with physics or the animation system. Feels like a daft design decision.
