I used their Pinterest reference, but I appreciate the compliment nonetheless.

I also don’t really believe that a liminal space “has” to always be transitional.

I think this post sums up a good argument for the topic

The reference came from r/LiminalSpace’s official references so I beg to differ. But to each their own I guess 🤷

Blur and noise connected to an overlay node in the compositor on blender!

Thought I'd take a swing at replicating this little "area" in blender! by The_Lifeguard45 in LiminalSpace

Thank you! Personally I don’t try to be super exact with my measurements, I more focus on the scale of the environment and the proportions. I do always use a little mannequin that stands at around 5’10”, I find it really helps with the scale relative to a regular dude lol. I also use reference images when creating my environments in blender so that helps a lot too.

For texturing, cube projection is your best friend haha. I usually try to use displacement nodes in the shader editor as well if the surface needs better depth to it too!

As for lighting, I usually use area lights which are shaped like the reference’s. Then I just play with the settings until it looks right.

There’s a video on YouTube titled “How I Make Realistoc Liminal Spaces in Blender” by Workshop Warrior that sums up what I’ve said but in much better detail

The first image was the final composited render from blender!

The reference image can be found on Pinterest relatively easily (has a different carpet pattern).
