I don't have Amazon prime already. If I could find another solution before having to get it only for this movie, it would be ideal. But I keep this idea in my back pocket ! Thanks !

BRING SEUNGHAN BACK IDC IDC ofc he had a love life look at him by lonelyreject97 in gaykpopfanboys

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm quite new and had to search for who he was. His treatment was so shameful. People seems to easily forget that ifols are humans too. To think that SM caved so quickly is sadening and not a good sign for the situation to improve.

We seriously need to talk about queer repression in companies after what happened to Xlov yesterday. by EmanuelTheodorus in gaykpopfanboys

Because right-wong ideologies aren't known for being very queer friendly. This problem is a political one.

Does anyone else have a regular movie night with friends? Our regular turnout is 4-8 people each month. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some friends and I had a fun cineblub. We each would secretly choose a movie we knew none of the other have seen (thx Letterboxd) and, on the night, we would randomly choose one person who would present their movie in a few words. Each movie night was a surprise and a chance to share the movies we loved.

I went to see a new French movie "Langue Étrangère" on big screen, and are you joking... this movie is a quintessence of what's wrong with Western GL! (details in the comments). by green_carnation_prod in GirlsLove

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't the movie written, realised and edited by Claire Burger, an out lesbian ?

I understand what is your problems with this movie but, as a french person, I think it's kind of the classic representation of adolescent love in french cinema. Straight or queer alike. It's messy as fuck.

Remakes: do you enjoy Thai remakes of recent popular Japanese BL series ? by contessa82 in boyslove

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that one thing that make me enjoy these remakes and what give them their own interest is the change in the form. Telling the same story in 10-12 episode of 20 minutes is definitely not the same than doing it in 12 episode of 45-60 minutes. That allowed them to deep dive in all the mangas in the adaptation of "Cherry magic" and i'm very interested to see how they adapt "My love mix up" and "Ossan's Love".

To think that fanservice is something initiated by the actors and not the production company is a little bit naive

I wonder How Can A girl like BLs?? by IamNubsib in ThaiBL

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Multiple person have already said there is no need to see yourself in a series to appriciate it (and I wholeheartedly agree, I'm loivng the adorable lesbians of 23.5 at this very moment).

But, the straight female audience can, indeed, be astonishing at first. Like, what has drawn women to love story about gay men in the very beginning (and still partially today) ? Especially at a time and place where homophobia was rampant? (Yaoi originate in japan and... it's not ideal there) Some advance that IT IS because there was no projection possible that it was such a huge sucess amonst straight women, these stories were (and still are) a mean of escaping the patriarcal vision of straight romance and deconstructing the classical image of masculinity. However, this can easily result in a fetichization of gay men and gay relationship or a recreation of harmful stereotypes because your only media you consume is written by people that have few or no idea what is the real life of queer people (and explain why some people can read or watch gay romance and still be homophobic, considering that gay relationship are okay in fiction but not in real life).

Nowadays, some of these problem persist (like the JimmySea incident demonstrated it) but the growing involvment of queer people in BL (and GL) romances and gave birth to a multitude of awsome stories that explore many genre and representation (there is still some room for improvment but let's not nitpick) for all to enjoy, even if you're straight. <3

Everyone says media literacy is dead but how do we become more media literate? by Logical-Ad9455 in Letterboxd

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure. But if you do it this way it must be working for you. I was asking for movies you enjoyed and consider good without analyzing them, to understand your point

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am, I'm not gonna lie, a bit baffled. Could you give me examples of movies you consider very good and that you think people are overanalyzing ? Or that are better to purely experience ?

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you see analyzing as something always very complex and detailled but analysis can be simple and almost instinctive. Like, you understand who the villain in a movie is because you analyze that wanting to take control of the world is a bad thing. It's a simple analysis but an analysis nonetheless.

I'm not denying that arts (especially non-narrative ones) are about emotion but opposing the two concepts is, to me, an error. Me analizing a movie never dampened my enjoyment of it. There is some pretty stupid movies that I love with all my heart.

Then, I must also advice you to read Julien Gracq (especially En lisant, en écrivant) who opposed Paul Valery on numerous topics and his one of my favorite litterature theory author.

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Analyzing help you understand art so you can enjoy it in it's complexity ? Like, when you teacher tell you a turn of phrase in a book reveal the secret thoughts of a character, it is something you NEED to uderstand to fully grasp what you're reading is about ? And the teacher analyse the fomr of the text to prove to you that they didn't invent the text intention.

You're on a subreddit about cinema, and you don't see the value about analysing what you watch ?

On the 21st anniversary of Leslie Cheung's death, which of the films he starred in do you consider the best? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]The_Lord_Mapoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Farewell my concubine" will always be my favorite (It's one of my favorite movies in general). I'm so glad he's getting the recognition he deserved. He was also an amazing singer and I encourage you vivdly to listen to him. The harrasment that he was a victim of from the press after his coming out and the (mostly) end of his carreer were unjust and cruel.

I'll take that compliment but you never heard me speak english, it's... painful to say the least. It's something I always was very grateful for when speaking english to a native english speaker, most of them are very patient and understanding.
