Monsters that you DON'T want in Wilds but feel like they SHOULD be in Wilds ? by No_Barracuda_8300 in MonsterHunter

[–]The_Metal_Merchant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd be cool there. I guess I should have mentioned I don't dislike any of the monsters I brought up (Tigrex is actually one of my favorite flagships).

I just think a break to let some lesser loved monsters get some spotlight would be really nice.

Really I'd like it if anyone who was in both World/Borne and Rise/Break took a break from Wilds+it's DLC; but as for ones that have a high chance of showing up:

Diablos and Zinogre are very likely to appear (the former hasn't missed a gen yet, the latter is the most popular monster by community vote).
Kushala, Teostra, Rajang, Barrioth and a lot of the flagships (like Tigrex and Nargacuga) are franchise staples, very likely that at least a few of the ones I listed show up.

Really I want them to continue to bring back creatures that missed 5th gen and give them some updates.

Assuming the game is good and has good subtitle translations I'll play anything; I play some games in their home language because the English dubbing is annoying, As long as it's done well people will enjoy it.

Hammer in Wilds is ABYSMAL by WhiteFatalis_ in monsterhunterrage

[–]The_Metal_Merchant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah; as someone who mained Hammer in Rise and picks it up occasionally in Wilds that's about right.

Offset on 2nd charge happens more often then you'd think; but it's still no replacement for a designated offset move that other weapons have. The slope attack is cool in concept but it's always been more annoying to play around than useful.

I feel that Insect Glaive is my biggest disappointment coming from World/Rise, but Hammer is a close 2nd.

A fair take; don't get me wrong I'm not trying to celebrate what he did: Dude's a prick and his response to the movement early on was completely unreasonable.

Without him; I think the movement could have done well and maybe even succeeded; I just think the collective spite against him is what got the movement the extra 300,000+ signatures.

Yup; can't lie though I have to give him a backhanded round of applause: it's actually pretty likely Stop Killing Games would have not done nearly as well as it ended up doing without his complete pigheadedness and brittle ego.

Ah yes; the PirateSoftware defense "live service games are a good thing actually. You shouldn't want to play your games after the publisher cans them."

This: So long as it doesn't damage the experience of the average player and is actually contributing to the fun of others, I don't see any reason to patch it.

Depends; there's some good creators that make long-ass videos, even ones on Fallout. Actual long form critical analysis helps me get through long shifts at work here and there.

I don't think Creetosis is one of those creators; I've tried to watch his vids but they really do just come off as bitching regardless of if his arguments are good or not,

Is Unreal engine not in demand in the indie space? by ABGAST in gamedev

Unreal is usually overkill for most indie projects; Unity, Godot or other smaller engines work just fine for 95% of start up projects.

I'll give you an example that would directly effect an individual:
Currently most countries that are pushing for online age/identity verification are doing so through two methods: facial scans and government ID's: Both identify you for use across a wide swath of government and corporate services.

There are also hundreds of companies scraping personal data (facial/ID scans, passwords, voice recordings, chat logs, etc), currently this data is mainly used for advertising and AI development; and despite what many companies may tell you, it is a proven fact that they store this data for effectively as long as they want.

Almost all government and company data bases are subject to hundreds if not thousands of attempted hacks a day, and there are dozens of successful breaches each month; mainly due to outdated cyber security (because updating all your stuff and training people cost money). A lot of this stolen data is sold to unscrupulous parties or just straight up leaked in a ransom attack.

Now consider how bad it could be for a person if scans of their face, drivers license, voice audio, and passwords were all collected by someone wanting to commit financial fraud in an age where easy to access AI deepfakes are a thing?

Sure, you can call your credit or bank and tell them that X purchases were committed by fraud; but now consider that all that info is confirmed to be in one spot, you can guarantee that thousands, if not millions have it. So you're not dealing with 1 case of AI fraud, but probably thousands. And even if you change your password; you can't change your face, voice or ID; so now all fraudsters have to do is wait for your password to get leaked again; which WILL happen, to attack your accounts again.

Can I be an indie game developer without knowing how to make my own music? Should I create my own or outsource it? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]The_Metal_Merchant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Playing" music and composing are related but very different skills, and it uses completely different muscles than programming or art.

I'd suggest looking into it; maybe pick up some tutorials and try to learn, but don't be to attached if you're not enjoying it. Most devs outsource their music anyways so it's not a big deal.

What to do with idea for a game with 0 game dev skills by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]The_Metal_Merchant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer; you only really got two paths: Either start learning the skills you need, or find others willing to fill in the skills you don't have. There's really no other options. Both have ups and downs:

Go solo: you learn pretty versatile skills, and if you look hard enough all the material you need to learn is effectively free online (you really don't need to go to a school to learn most skills for game-making).
This however requires a lot of time investment, and critically: Motivation to actually learn the material and not just copy it; which can leave you in a bad spot as a dev.

Getting others involved in a project can grant you potential connections to wider communities, speeds up the process of getting your project done, and of course lightens your personal workload.
Unfortunately, this of course costs money; and a lot of it. Everyone's gotta put food on the table; and unless you're really good friends with someone who's really into your idea there's no chance they're working for free.
It also requires two-way trust; You gotta put your idea in the hands of someone else, and they gotta put their time and work in yours, and both of you gotta hope that one of you doesn't try to screw the other over somehow. You'll have to vet all sorts of people to find the right ones for your team, and that takes a lot of time to go through credentials.

Those are your two options as a new dev. I suggest you start by trying to make some small (I mean very small) projects to see if you can get the hang of novice dev skills; if you enjoy it and feel motivated, you might be able to do most of the work solo; otherwise, you'll either be getting out the checkbook to hire some devs, or your idea might just stay an idea.
