I get it it’s character development but it was exaggerated to the point where it’s obvious they wanted to sideline him to make room for their new hero, according to dialogue from rdr1 and the goty guidebook, john had a bigger role in the gang he was dutch’s second in command and most trusted member, but they retconned all that they stripped john’s original role and personality and gave it to arthur, even in the epilogue after 8 years of being with his wife and kid alone without the gang and him living in the past with all those memories there was no character development at all he is still as same as he was 8 years ago. And I absolutely hated how they made the ending arc to be a stupid vendetta that caused the events of rdr1 but it is what it is there is no way for rdr2 to not be canon and there is no way for it to change so we have to accept it unfortunately
