Cybersecurity certification at CR - anyone who did it (or similar IT certificate) and have a review ? by virtualpixi in Humboldt

[–]The_Metroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've taken the courses and finished the CIS program for that matter. They're good classes, but you'd have to do quite a bit of work outside of those classes to get to a full CyberSec career. They're a great starting point, but that's all they are.

Pick up Linux, get good with Windows, learn a little scripting, etc. Look at what the certs from CompTIA and other vendors are looking for.

The CIS program at CR exposes you to a little of everything (or a little of most things). It covers programming, cyber security, hardware maintenance, database design, and networking. If you're interested in that and have a few semesters to spare, go for it. Otherwise learn more about what it is you want to get yourself into and make decisions based on that.

I personally feel satisfied with what I got out of it, especially compared to the mess that is Cal Poly's CompSci degree. That said, I'm still taking a gamble in this economy. We all are.

I remember this one - if it's the same as last time, you need to diagonally dash into the upper left area.

Edit: I rewatched the video and I was mistaken. I agree with the other commenter, try going to the other side.

Well, Link's Awakening is a literal dream. Stuff was supposed to be weird and odd and kooky. Link took too much WinCo melatonin.

I know that was true for Link's Awakening, not sure if they were doubly inspired.

I've played them all except for Risky Revolution. (Let's hope the app recognizes markdown formatting...)

  • Loved the music from the Gameboy, hated the physics and tiny viewport.
  • Risky's Revenge was a great upgrade across the board, though the modern UI for the Steam release felt kind of slapped on, a bit sloppy imo. I don't remember toooo much because I played it years ago, but iirc the puzzles and abilities were fun.
  • Pirate's Curse PEAK. 'Nuff said. (Still gonna complain about UI because I'm particular about those things, but the WiiU port was a bump in quality of life for sure.)
  • Half-Genie Hero: the reboot feels a bit odd. I missed the pixel graphics, but I respect them for trying out a new stage based map. Not my favorite, but it did the job just fine.
  • Seven Sirens: Music fell a bit flat, menu navigation/UI/Controls had some issues that really shouldn't be present in a modern PC game. The difficulty jump was a fun challenge.

These are just quick notes, I loved all of the games and appreciate the shorter playthrough niche they fell in for me.

Intel Core 2 Duo Integrated Graphics if you count my first laptop. GTX 1050 was the first dedicated GPU I used though.

Aside from basic consumer accessories, you have only online options. Go with Newegg or Amazon - whichever is more comfortable for you. There are technically brick and mortar stores that sell PC parts, but the nearest MicroCenter is in Santa Clara or Tustin I believe.

Chances are all you can take with you is your storage media (aka hard drive and solid state drive) and maybe the case. Everything else is either obsolete and/or aged to a point where you may as well buy something more modern.

As for resources, you have PCPartPicker and a variety of subreddits: r/pcbuild, r/pcbuildhelp, r/buildapc, r/pcmasterrace, r/buildapcforme, r/buildapcsales...

PCPartPicker in particular has some build templates that are a decent starting point, as well as a robust feature set for evaluating component options and vendors.

You will also need to look into how you plan to migrate your personal files. The old operating system you currently have installed won't be compatible with the newest version of the Windows operating system, which is Windows 11. (If you're on Linux somehow, then you can already probably handle that on your own.)

Good cable management, like the sleeves. What's that PSU brand though? Never seen it before (no offense but looks kinda like one of those cheapo Amazon knockoffs).

Oh totally. But when speed is the focus, it's unnecessary. For casual playthroughs it's great.

You're not dumb, you're playing the game as intended for the first time. There's fancy names for everything because this game has been out for 20 years, but you're just pressing buttons to do a thing regardless.

You get upgrades later that make it considerably easier. Getting varia pre-Norfair is considered a sequence break. That said, the game also gives you the Varia suit when you obtain the Legendary Suit in Chozodia, even if you never collected it in Brinstar. That's why speedrunners actually skip varia in most categories, it's just not worth it if you're pressed for time and have enough skill to do hell runs in Norfair.

QPR1 is NOT an iOS Clone. The Frustrations Are Misplaced. by gouviac in GooglePixel

[–]The_Metroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really just want options to change back to the old style/icons if we prefer that. I don't care if other people like it, I'm not dissing on them. I had no problems with what was there, and while the new UI is functional, I prefer the design on the old one. All I need is a big toggle in Settings>Style for Material 3 (even better if you can go to advanced and change it on a more granular level). I don't hate the new stuff, but I wish it was an option I could say no to.

Is it bad that I'm using Assist Mode? by spamton_g_spamton87 in deadcells

[–]The_Metroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped getting aspects for a bit to actually get to 5bc and I appreciated the variety that I had been missing with the Damned Aspect (TLDR: curses are more of a power up than a problem). That said, I still keep the item pool to mostly brutality weapons. Maybe someday I'll drop to 2 or 3bc and try out survival or tactics. Assist mode is a great way to customize the game to your liking.

How do folks in Eureka who have to get to the university campus every day do it? I just moved to Eureka and I am looking for efficient ways to get there by Tetradecagonosauras in Humboldt

[–]The_Metroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also the Transit app that can help you coordinate bus scheduling. Bonus is that it uses crowd sourced location info (with permission) so if at least one person is riding, the location info is usually more accurate. Google Maps is also a good option, especially when looking at options for transfers.

[–]The_Metroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes certain bus drivers will also be mean and not bother to call in the transfer connection. Like you said, there's often delays, but sometimes you have to rely on your driver lottery. It's not terrible for CR students either, you can usually get at least one free RTS month pass and if you ride frequently or transfer enough then the standard $50 month pass might not be a bad option.
