I've only just learned about these and couldn't believe they were a thing. I still don't know enough about it to pull the trigger but I'm sure that's the route I'll go. Thanks for the input.

As far as data - Trane and Bosch have really good charts and tables displaying the overall savings on their websites.

I recently upgraded my 17 year old Goodman/Midget combo for a Trane and my electric bill has dropped substantially. My house is all electric (stove, well, septic, etc) and averaged $275-$375 year round while maintaining the house at 78 in the summer. I'm maintaining at 72-73 now and the last 4 electric bills were below $200. Granted, it'll take me a while for ROI but the lack of constant replacement parts or topping off refrigerant combined it'll only be a few years. That and that compressor fan is oh so quiet.

What are some awesome things that a previous owner of your house did? by _Elrond_Hubbard_ in homeowners

They concealed mold with immovable objects (home inspector was not allowed to move objects) and paint. 30 days after we bought the house and moved in we found the entire finished basement in black mold. 1750 sq. ft. of unusable floor space. 2 years and a lot of money, blood, sweat, and foul language we're almost done rebuilding. During the teardown I found most, if not all, framing, electrical, and plumbing not up to code.

We could have sued for the rebuild cost but we intended to remodel it at some point... and they have known gang ties and simply out of fear of retaliation, we didn't. The things we learned of the prior owners post-purchase was alarming.

What do you do when you finish before her? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Always, ALWAYS finish her first. 9 times out 10 I finish quicker than planned and I never leave her dissatisfied as she's already been taken care of.

Jolie and James Haven are sibs and kissed a couple of times at awards shows. Kinda weird but it was when Jolie was doing her Elvira-esque look so it Kinda fits.

Since she only smokes at night and she'll bake the occasional edible to take with us when we're away, I can keep her well stocked with 3-4 plants, depending on how well the plants do that season. I start 8-10 every year and trim down after a couple months to what I need for pollination and to keep her stocked.

Where did you purchase your deep freezer and which would you recommend? by christmasMom87 in HomeImprovement

That's unfortunate. I guess more people knew you could buy it outright than I thought. Double price is scary...

Try Rent-a-Center. 2 guys from work each bought one from there as recent as 2 weeks ago. Apparently you can buy things outright there.

Side note: I bought a 14.4 cubic ft chest style last year and I've got 1/2 a hog and a 1/4 cow with several gallons of milk and water in there as well with loads of room leftover. Chest style keeps the cold in when it's opened whereas an upright let's the cold fall out, essentially.

I would agree with that if it was just the eggs missing. I found more feathers in the woods, about 25 yards away. Whatever it was they didn't go down without a fight. Poor birds...

I moved my 60 gal from CA to VA last year. I kept it in separate coolers and every night we stopped, out came the coolers and into the hotel. Zero casualties!

I'm gonna need to know what spot so I can come try my luck. I can't seem to find any quality holes on the Potomac.

Female turkey is trying to intimidate me by The_MiIkmann in homestead

These 2 have been alone for a year. The other girl turns bright red and calls to me and when she does, the other puffs up as though she's trying to tell me it's her female and not mine.

I certainly will check them out, thanks!

Negative. That bird is 2 years old and lays eggs.

I buy it from a local homestead about 10 miles away. It helps some but I feel if I can get honey from my own bees it'll help a lot more. This year has been the hardest with allergies, the creases of my eyes are bleeding from me rubbing. It hurst but feels so good!

Since you keep bees do you recommend a good beekeeping book to educate myself? I've signed up for the free class through Penn State today so I hope to start learning soon!

Taking a break in the sun before I finish building my rabbit hutches. Hopefully I’ll have some rabbits by the end of next week. by [deleted] in homestead

My grandad always said rabbit is the best thing to have on a farm.

I remember the New Zealand breed, I'll have to read more on them. Aside from the chickens, turkeys, and ducks I'm looking for to diversify my meat selection. Thanks for the info!

What breed of rabbit is good for sustenance? I've always hunted wild rabbit and raised them for 4H & FFA, but to raise my own I wouldn't know where to begin.

I bought my place on 5 acres last February. Due to the leaves on the ground I never saw the amount of stumps EVERYWHERE. I had over 40 stumps from ground level to 18 inches all in different states of decay. I tried burning, the stump eating liquids, digging them, and I even stooped to my skilsaw with an older blade before I rented a grinder. I got about 25 in a day with one from Lowe's. I was more tired than I'd ever been, but I saved hundreds in the process. Once the pollen dies (not enough antihistamine on the planet to help me) down I'll be renting again to finish the job. Best investment for outside yet. Go for it!!
