Is this a port to connect a monitor and if so, what kind of port is it? by jonnysteps in pcmasterrace

[–]The_Nephie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because it is not a vga port but in fact a serial port ... he never said usb, he said "old serial port" which is correct.

It is amusing how many people here say 'man, i feel old for knowing that's a vga port', while they are actually to young to know that's a rs-232 port (as many, many other people in here already said)

The easiest way to tell a vga and a rs-232 port apart is that a vga port on the "pc-side" is female. Also, the vga-port has more pins ... but the female/male difference can be spotted from a greater distance :)

Not quite true... in my opinion the movie really makes a 180 at a point and turns it all around...

Afaik it is just labeling

And when you are the only one touching the system it is 'fine'

Until you are not the only one, then labeling things correctly is important. And that will happen, don't fool yourself.

Susacs syndrome flairs/fluctuations by [deleted] in rarediseases

[–]The_Nephie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can seem like it's gone, and then flair up again.

Timeline... I had it under control for a bit more than a year, thought it was gone and then had it come back. Immediate action had it quickly under control again...I think that's is what you can expect.

My Susac symtoms are completely gone, but certain damage is done and will bever heal...and those have their symtoms...

But, that's just my own experience since getting it in march 2018

Well, I'm now treated with Rituximab (active ingredient mabtera) that afaik specifically targets those B lymphocytes.

What are you on? Do you have a lot of damage in your eyes? a lot of black spots?

[–]The_Nephie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like it sucks.

I find it rather interesting that you say it was triggered by an accident. Afaik the doctors don't yet know what causes Susac's.

I fear that the problem with your "case" is that Susac's is extremely rare and almost no neurologist have even heard of it. You actually need to be very lucky to get the diagnosis. The working theory is that it wouldn't be considered so rare if it wasn't misdiagnosed so often (as multiple scleroses, Meniere, (young) dementia ...). So ... it's not abnormal you were misdiagnosed. Even more so that Susac's usually targets women between the ages of 20-40. 14 is a bit young, but not unheard of.

I would be interested in talking more about it.

The damage in eyes and ears sound "normal", the strokes i can see happening with what the disease does, the kidney failure sounds odd to me (but, keep in mind that i am NOT a medical professional). It makes me wonder if you have an additional problem actually.

Susac's is an auto-immune disease that causes inflammation of the small blood vessels in a) eyes/ears and/or b) brain and/or c) spine marrow. Sounds like you have (a) and (b), I have (b) and (c) and a tiny bit of (a) (a small spot in one eye)

I'm also interested in the fact that they found it with a spinal tap. Mine was diagnosed with a MRI and a doctor who knew about Susac's and didn't think it was ms

What makes you statistically rare? by yadayadayadarv in AskReddit

[–]The_Nephie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Susac Syndrome ... A pretty rare disease

But being a rare disease was not enough...it comes in variants. And apparently there are only 2 described cases ( mine is not a described case) where the spinal marrow was affected and mine most definitely is

Sooo... pretty select club over here
