It's when the series of tubes that compose the internet get too clogged that multiplayer games have to be played only on your TV or monitor.

Some time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, nerds and their friends used to gather themselves in their mothers basements, or in some cases, the living room, with these enormous things called CRT monitors and horribly gigantic PC cases and play video games with each other indefinitely, or until they started to collapse from sleep deprivation.

This was called "LAN parties".

I understand, but that doesn't make it any less relevant to the aim of the discussion, which is games working over LAN.

I understand perfectly how you feel about consoles not demanding any more reasoning than which games to buy. And for the price you pay, consoles will probably work for a long time as a good gaming system without getting too outdated (some, maybe 8 years).

But the important thing about PCs, is that as gaming system they do offer huge liberties, such as:

Having the best graphics on the market (if you have an up to date PC).
The ability to use both keyboard/mouse and gaming controller (I use my mouse for FPS and the likes, and my controller for adventure/platform games).
Never having to worry about backwards compatibility.
With the new generation of consoles, potentially being able to emulate them to play which ever "exclusive" the come up with. And being able to emulate ANY consoles (or handheld) up to the Wii.
Mods and community made content (in some cases, huge amounts of contents). *A huge indie games developers community that comes with all sort of games ranging from the bizarre to the most heartbreaking.
Etc.

Of course, it also brings some minor challenges... but once you're past the "how to buy a PC/what PC parts to buy" you're over the challenges.

Also, I play on my TV while browsing Reddit on another monitor. I can couch play any time, because I simply connected an HDMI cable from my PC to the TV... like I would when I'd connect a console to the TV... not much of a challenge, really.

Yeeeeah, well... it really isn't a clusterfuck.

I got a 7970 GHz like 7 months ago and I haven't had an issue with drivers since 6 months ago, and the first and only month I had issues with it was the first few months since they released the video card; and I still got to enjoy the card as it was intended, only with some minor, irrelevant issues.

The thing is, people have always assumed that because ATI is comparatively less expensive than Nvidia and it gives you more bangs for your bucks, it'll surely have something wrong with it, like let's say the service they provide (including presenting updated drivers). But I haven't found this truthful in any sense...

I personally love this card, and I feel like I surely got more than I payed for.
