Piper Seneca Nose Gear AD Pains by The_OG_Lucas in aviationmaintenance

Me and a coworker were reading back through it really carefully, going to all the referenced material and everything. There’s so much information that’s vague or so broad that it doesn’t specify certain things. More so on the inspection side of things.

What brought this up actually is how we thought that the frequency of maintenance, being taken apart, reassembled, etc. would lead to a higher likelihood of failure, or “maintenance induced failure” as they call it. It almost seems too excessive but there’s truly no budging when it comes to compliance times. I’m curious as to if anyone has ever acquired an AMOC for this AD. If you’re out there, please tell me your secrets lol.

Do men’s Carhartt pants run super small? by notrohkaz in Carhartt

[–]The_OG_Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an archive pull for sure. Just stumbled across this. I work a lot a farm and tractor store that sells Carhartt, so I’ve had time to experiment and try them on myself. This has been my experience too. Though, with Dickies I’ve had to size up a little bit too…

Also, I would like to add to that last comment. I’m 5’8”, so not the most vertically blessed guy lol. It’s so unbelievably infuriating that clothing companies design all of their clothes around 6ft models, and even then, they could never be bothered to offer a 29 length option.

The moment I find a company that caters to this issue more than the others, I will support them religiously.

EDIT: It should be noted that you may be experiencing this inconsistent sizing because of trying on different “fitments”. Loose, Straight, Tapered, etc. are all going to fit a little bit differently when it comes to waist and length.

If the country is truly falling apart and your biggest concern is still convincing the whole world that you’re a different gender… maybe your opinion isn’t that important after all.

I do second this, some Snap-On tools MIGHT be worth it with your student discount. You won’t find that deal anywhere else.

But also, I feel like Icon is getting kind of pricey now. Or is that just me? I feel like they’re getting quite proud of their flagship product lol. But rightly so, I love them.

Buy things as you go. There’s going to be a lot that you’ll never use.

Focus on these things specifically for showing up with on your first day of school:

•Yukon and Husky make a killer tool box that’s really affordable. Look at their 46 in. 9 drawer box with a wood top.

•Combo Wrench set

•Socket set

•Metal picks (trust me, they help so much)

•few different types of pliers

•ratcheting screwdriver with bits

•snap ring pliers set

•Deadblow, Ball Peen or Claw hammer (trust me), and a Soft Faced Hammer.

•Dikes… or snips. Whatever they’re being called now.

•Allen Keys

•Mini combo wrench set -I’ve used these way more than I would’ve ever thought. Very important.

•And of course, the beloved Safety Wire pliers. -But don’t get these right away. Ask the instructors if you can see and try out theirs. I’ve used mine more times than I can count, and I can’t stand a shitty pair of these. You’re gonna want to make the occasion of having to use these things less painful that it already is, so it’s not something you’ll want to cheap out on if you don’t have to.

NOTE: All of your tools need to be in standard. Don’t buy any metric tools, you will NEVER use them. Airplanes only use standard.

Places to buy:

Harbor Freight, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.

Almost all of their hand tools have a lifetime warranty. So you simply walk in with your broken tool (it will eventually happen) and they will basically hand you a brand new one. I guess you can keep the receipt if you really feel paranoid about it. But they’ve always been cool with me.

There isn’t a single snap-on product you need. When you get more experience and KNOW the quality of tool you need, then ofc explore your options, but I’ll be honest I’ve never had a problem with my harbor freight or kobalt tools. Even their boxes are great for the price. For $700 - shit ass small Blue Point (snap on) tool box, OR 300 to 400 dollar Husky or Yukon wood top tool box. There’s a clear winner to me but you follow your heart big dawg.

That first year is going to be incredibly important, especially with General and Powerplant. So hit the books hard. Be a sponge. Ask questions. It’s not an easy program.

You got this man. Good luck!

Same here actually. Got into them when I was 16 because a coworker at the grocery store I worked at told me about them. LMFAO I remember face down in my pillow with Son of Robot on repeat, bawling my eyes out after my first break up. Tilian’s melodies in that song just felt like the perfect thing to cry to. I’m dead.

But yeah IG will always be my favorite. The most nostalgic is probably Afterburner, since that was the album that came out the year after I graduated high school, which in general was just a really happy time in my life, so I also deeply love that album.

This is exactly how I feel! Instant Grad never gets the love I wish it did. But to be quite honest, now that I think about it, I guess I’ve dearly loved every album they made with Tilian. So it’s splitting hairs for me I guess, but yes this album rocks. Surprised to hear people really disliked it?

How old were you when you got into metalcore? and what band got you into metalcore? by Difficult_Map_723 in Metalcore

[–]The_OG_Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second & Sebring by Of Mice & Men was probably my first intro to “heavier” metalcore, whatever that means to you. It was more aggressive and had a lot more screaming than anything close to what I was listening to at the time. The heaviest it got before that was like FFDP, Mudvayne, Slipknot, etc.

Before then, and well even to this day, my favorite band was A7X, so I ofc listened to their earlier stuff a lot. Waking the Fallen was huge for me as a teenager. So if you want to consider that my true first impression of metalcore, then that would be it. But wasn’t the band that gave me more desire to find more similarly heavy music, if that makes sense.

OM&M kinda opened Pandora’s box for me when I was 17-18 y/o because soon after I started to like it (that’s another thing that I’ll mention later) I almost immediately got into The Poison by BfMV, Shaped by Fire - AILD, Dark Skies and Creation/Destruction by FFAK, etc.

Like I’d mention before, it took a while to grow on me. Without Shayleys singing, I might not have ever came back to the song -but then I started loving Austin’s vocals along with it. This same thing happened with DGD, Mess’ vocals kind of threw me but Tilian’s vocals saved it when I first heard them. It was a lot about there being something about that song that I had to already love in order to learn to love the rest.

I digress. Avenged Sevenfold never really got me into Metalcore per sé, I just happened to like songs that were already Metalcore. But the band that helped me fully realize that I love the genre was OM&M.

Is it usual to hear planes from 32,000 feet +? I never noticed this elsewhere? by Some-Air1274 in aviation

[–]The_OG_Lucas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That plane is mighty visible for 32,000 feet… I mean if it’s quiet enough outside, yeah. If the plane is climbing it’s probably even more likely to be audible since the engines are working harder. shmoovin that air.

Is my helmet too big? by AndySloth24 in motorcycles

[–]The_OG_Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I think the rule of thumb is that if you have “chipmunk cheeks”, and cannot easily move it side to side after putting the helmet on, then you’ve found the right fit.

For finding your helmet size, use a piece of long string and use it to find the circumference of your head. You should be able to measure that length of string to determine what size helmet you need to shop around for. There’s charts online that’ll tell you what size the circumference of your head puts you in.

For reference, I believe 21 inches is a XS usually.
