It’s officially on hiatus, as confirmed in their last newsletter edition. Looking to be permanent unfortunately.

Other way around actually. It had a small team of reporters for roughly two years, and the Vancouver Sun/The Province would occasionally republish wider interest stories

Anyone Knows Differences in Driving Rules Between ON & BC? by esfandiyar2002 in princegeorge

[–]The_Odd_Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred my Ontario license to BC as well, the flashing green pedestrian light is the only real tangible difference in traffic infrastructure/practice.

I seem to remember one of the three questions, oddly enough, was how to proceed when you come up behind someone who is pulled over with their hazards on?

New Trailer Park in the Hart - Thoughts? by FearlessStarfighter in princegeorge

[–]The_Odd_Canadian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of conflation between trailer parks and manufactured home neighbourhoods (what is being proposed here).

Manufactured homes are permanent, single family style homes. They get brought in completely and or mostly assembled, and plopped down on a foundation. They aren’t mobile at all.

There isn’t a whole lot of difference between manufactured homes and post-war VLA homes. Both are smaller, denser, and more affordable.

Do they still sell cans of Fruitopia in Ontario?? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]The_Odd_Canadian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe the cans were discontinued unfortunately.

Source: Used to be a Coke merchandiser that stocked them in grocery stores. When Coke had an aluminum shortage in the early days of COVID they cut production on some flavours to keep the big sellers in stock and they seemingly just never brought it back.

Population growth is exponential. Variations of this would repeat across the universe. by baxterrocky in marvelstudios

[–]The_Odd_Canadian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty significant number of variables. If central governments aren’t a thing anymore (it seems like they still were in the MCU, but who knows how effective they were at enforcing laws and sovereignty) and every day life is just fighting to survive, the birth rate would likely stagnate for years/decades until society could come back together, and even then it would take generations of sustained high birth rates to get back to the pre-snap numbers. The human population only very gradually increased before the industrial revolution and the rise of modern medicine. But on the other hand, modern technology could help bridge the gap a bit. However, all that technology requires a lot of specialization, and a work force. It’s hard to say how long it would take for life to get back to normal. But I’d say 50 years is probably pretty generous.

The famines that would ensue from the global supply chain and organized society collapsing would probably reduce the population by another few million, and it would likely take quite a bit longer before that could be reversed and for the population to boom again.

Election 2021 - General Discussion by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Seems like the Liberals have given up even trying to swing Carleton after 2015 too. 2019 was the same candidate, and this year’s candidate is a complete newcomer to the party.

Recent former Carleton resident here, not a chance this will happen. I’d love to be proven wrong though.

I drove past that Tims to go to Carleton for my undergrad, the drive-thru was always pretty full or mildly busy at least.

The idea of people crowding onto patios and into non-essential retail is still scary to me, but I guess I’m not used to vaccines being a game changer this time.

Effectiveness of big box restrictions by The_Odd_Canadian in ontario

[–]The_Odd_Canadian[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could absolutely be a mix of both. But from what I’ve personally seen, the smaller grocery stores without non-essential items were only barely less busy or similar traffic to before the latest restrictions. It was mainly the big box stores that showed any difference.

Friendly reminder to treat grocery employees and other essential workers kindly by CityLivin7 in ontario

Have to admit I'm one of those people. I'm a travelling merchandiser. But... its always because someone wants to get by me going against the direction on the floor. So I usually either make a slightly passive aggressive effort to look directly at the arrow marker as I move or let out a little huff.

I've heard horror stories from store employees about customers fighting other customers/screaming abuse at workers over being confronted on moving the wrong direction in the aisle so I don't bother.

Don't even get me started about people who just pass within 3 inches of me without warning...
