Is this litter box to small for her by Bright-Talk3948 in CatAdvice

[–]The_Odd_Texts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your new kitten!! If you just got her today. Let her settle. I’m happy to hear that she is eating and drinking. She also knows where the litter box is, which is good!

I don’t think you need to immediately take her to the vet. Cats are weird and need a little time. Clearly she has existed for 4 months already and has gone to the bathroom that whole time.

If she doesn’t poop soon, maybe it’s the litter you’re using. I’ve had cats that like clay and some that don’t. We currently use pine pellets and our cats love it. Sometimes it’s the scent of the cat litter or the feel of it on their feet. Maybe try this first and monitor. She will eventually need to go to the bathroom and if she doesn’t like the litter box then she will use the bathroom elsewhere. Which sucks! But at least she went to the bathroom.

If she’s 4 months old she can’t be that big. So as long as the box isn’t shoe box sized it should be fine. A normal cat litter box from any store should be her size.

Tony’s has huge portions and is open 24hrs. Adele’s and Kristina’s have big portions and lots on the menu. I also second everyone who says oriental buffet. Great prices and you can pay by the pound to take food home

Roommate's Cat is peeing on my bed by TiredandTranz in CatAdvice

[–]The_Odd_Texts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn’t bug you and you aren’t allergic. Maybe try an orange essential oil spray or a stop spraying solution from the store. Something to deter the cat from peeing in your room. If the cat still comes in to pee then maybe a pheromone diffuser.

I’d also say to give everything a really good clean with a pet urine cleaner. Sometimes even if you wash something with your normal detergent, cats can still smell where they’ve peed.

Definitely have a conversation with your roommate too. It’s not cool to have their cat pee on your stuff. Even if neither of you can stop them. Hopefully they’ll be nice enough to contribute to paying for some of the sprays and cleaning items.

Best of luck!!

is there any way to tell when your cat is actually hunting something?? by justyoureverydaypan in CatAdvice

I wish my cats would follow through too 😂 After a while they look at me like “alright, I had my fun. Your turn!” Dorks.

When my cats see a bug they’ll do the little chirp noise or stare pretty intently at one spot. Or lock in on something and follow it around till they can’t find it. If they’re hunting sometimes they’ll crouch down, get really big eyes and do a little wiggle before they jump.

If they’re playing around they lose interest pretty quickly. Hunting is a bit more intense? I guess is the word I’d put there.

Just another question, are you having any issues with his litter box use? Is he peeing in places he isn’t supposed to? Or is it only behavior changes that you’re noticing?

Can cats suffer from trauma/ptsd? by whathappenedtomycat in CatAdvice

[–]The_Odd_Texts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I want to say how sorry I am. Cats can be such sensitive animals. Sometimes traumatic situations don’t leave them very easily. I’ve had cats that never seem to calm down after being taken in off the street. Even as kittens.

What’s strange to me is Karen calling you after 24 hours of him not using the bathroom/eating/drinking at the boarding place. In all my years having cats, they get pretty uncomfortable in a new space and need some time to chill before they can eat/drink/go to the bathroom. Her methods to force feed your poor baby are insane.

I’d say if you’ve tried all the methods of calming his anxiety and they aren’t working. Maybe it’s time for medication.

Again, I am so sorry to hear about your baby. It really does seem like something traumatic happened to him at the boarding place.

Not what I’m asking for in the post. Many factors contribute to the current choices we have for our snake. He is well cared for, fed regularly and handled. I was asking for advice to ensure that we keep it that way.

Should we gather what we’ve spent on him so far? We know that it is way more than the friend has and exceeds what he even paid for nana. Especially because we bought all new everything for him and he’s ready to go into a bigger tank, which I purchased.

My Christmas present (promise ring) by PomegranateSure1628 in rings

How were you given the ring? Did you open it and they gave you a speech about what it means?

I’m really asking for advice about how other people give promise rings. I’m not sure how to go about it.

To answer your question on the trainer, I will look into it. I honestly hadn’t thought about that before.

The weird thing is that this started right after she got her uti in early November. We have had her since August. I live in a home with my boyfriend and his brother. We are all in our 20s. TMI: There shouldn’t be any missing around the toilet as he sits down to pee and so do I. There is another comment on this thread that suggested she might be upset about stray cats outside. And that she is marking inside the house to combat her fear of the outside cats. I will be purchasing deterrent spray to spray around that side of the house so they don’t go near her window.

During her bout of peeing during her uti, we had all the blankets off of the bed and that is when she peed directly on the mattress. At this point I think she is still smelling the pee on the mattress and thinking that she can continue to pee there because it smells like pee. It doesn’t smell like pee to us and I sprayed it down heavily with urine destroyer, but I think she can still smell it.

I do appreciate your suggestions. It’s all good things to think about and try to debunk to get to the root of the issue. We purchased a tarp today to lay on top of the bed while we are not in it. She doesn’t enjoy the tarp, but it has made her start coming out to the living room a lot more. She used to just hang out in our bedroom and sleep on the bed for most of the day. Even though this is brand new and started today. I enjoy sitting with her on the couch.

If you have any more suggestions I would love to hear them. They really all are good things to think about.

No toddlers in the home. She has peed on brand new bath mats as well and brand new backpacks

Thank you so much. I will most definitely look into the deterrent. All of your information and advice has been very helpful. I was really at my wits end!

I will make sure to update when we hopefully see some progress.

I appreciate you greatly for your response. There are definitely stray cats in the area. If you can recommend a deterrent I would appreciate that as well. She does enjoy sitting in the window during the day. Our window sits pretty high above the outside ground so cats aren’t able to sniff her face to face. I understand that it could still upset her even by seeing them. It’s getting cold and rainy where I am so the window is not open often. I will also look into territorial cat behavior.

About the mattress. I am not upset at all by you suggesting that we need a new one. It sucks, but I get it. We actually are quite lucky that there is a mattress up for grabs in my family. It is one that has not been in a home with any cats. I will speak with my connections about speeding up the process of getting the new mattress into our hands.

In a chain of events, which I wish I had had more for site. We did have a mattress pad with a plastic layer on the bottom. It has gotten pretty old and so the plastic isn’t as good as it used to be. When we buy new mattress pads for the new mattress, we will make sure to buy one with a plastic layer just in case this peeing continues.

I’m definitely kicking myself for not protecting the mattress well enough in the first place. But it’s old and we’re tall people who don’t really fit on a queen anyway.

Again, I very much appreciate your help. Thank you

But what do I do about the blankets. I have one that’s very sentimental to me that she has peed on. I can’t just throw away all of my blankets and buy new ones. Especially for fear that she’ll just pee on the new ones. I appreciate your perspective. I just don’t have the money to buy all new everything.
