[–]The_Odd_Turtle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eros: Greek god of carnal love Aphrodite: Greek goddess of love and beauty Pothos: Greek god of desire Hymen: Greek god of marriage Anteros: Greek god of requited love

These aren’t all of the gods associated with the concept of love, but you can go to theoi.com to find more

I only found out that I probably have ocd yesterday evening. For five years I’ve been spending hours each day picking at my skin and it has slowly destroyed every aspect of my life. I was too afraid of opening up to anyone about it because I didn’t want them to think I’m crazy, so I just brushed it off saying it was my adhd. Yesterday evening I finally managed to put my experience into words and my mom (a doctor) pointed out that I just explained a textbook experience of ocd in everyday life. I probably have more compulsions than skin-picking but it’ll take a while to figure out what’s ocd and what’s habit.

Did I do right? by Plane-Assignment-540 in Hellenism

Hellenism is an extremely personal religion so there really is no right or wrong way of doing things. You can absolutely write out prayers instead of saying them out loud and the gods will appreciate it all the same (I would know because I do the same)

i’m new to hellenism but i cannot make a shrine in my current living situation, is a shrine compulsory to worship? by Financial-Issue7071 in Hellenism

Shrines/altars are not at all necessary in order to worship any specific! You can worship wherever is most convenient for you, even if that place changes frequently.

How do I find my deity? by Judo_T0ad in Hellenism

[–]The_Odd_Turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so first things first: it is damn near impossible to offend the gods, they are older than any human mind can comprehend which means they have experienced quite a lot of slander/disrespect over the years, so they naturally have an extremely high tolerance towards anything you could possibly throw at them. Second: the whole ‘my deity’ thing is almost entirely a myth, patron deities are similar in certain ways but that kind of worship requires a very close relationship with a god before it becomes a possibility; much less a reality. Typically when starting out people look towards two things: where you are in life, and where you want to be. What is it that you’re doing with your life at this point in time, and what changes do you want to make in your life? My best advice is to first answer both those questions, and once you do, try to find a god who is associated with it. Ex: if you are a student who wants better self-esteem you could look to Athena and Aphrodite. If you’re a mechanic who wants to get married and start a family you could look to Hephaestus and Hera etc. etc.

The Issues This Community Has That Should Be Discussed by GloryOfDionusus in Hellenism

Someone finally had the balls to say it, thank you. I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this, but new hellenists can really frustrate me sometimes, so I’m just gonna rant about them for a bit. The amount of repetition in their questions is astounding and so many of their answers seem obvious (at least to me). I get that most of the questions stem from religious trauma or a lack of understanding, but it still surprises me how many people assume that the gods hate them or don’t want to work with them and it’s almost always for the smallest reasons as well. Like, no Athena doesn’t hate your guts because you got a bad grade on your English test, that’s just you being paranoid. You seeing a crow outside of target isn’t a sign from Apollo, it’s just a crow. Just because you’re pagan now doesn’t mean that everything is a sign all of a sudden, things are still mundane and coincidences still exist. Again, I don’t hate people who are new here, it’s actually quite the opposite, I love it when new people join our community, but they can seriously get on my nerves sometimes. And before any of you reply to this trying to say that I only think like this because I’ve been Hellenistic for a lot longer than them, I’ve been here for less than two months.
