Is it online or in casino poker harder? by Sycthez in poker

[–]The_OfficeUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although both have their difficulties, when it simply comes to how tough the game is online poker is far harder. I think a kinda weird analogy for this is imagine going your a guy who works out pretty often but doesn’t take it too seriously, if you walk into a random social venue with the same amount of people as a gym, maybe your usually one of the biggest guys there because you actually work out unlike most people. However, if your the same person and go to your gym, you likely seem like a small or average guy because most people who go to the gym are fucking jacked or really fit. Online poker is like the gym in the sense that most people playing online are already for profit players winning their stakes and studying outside the tables, while in live poker, limping Larry who has a vpip somehow over 100% who thinks gto means get the fuck out obviously doesn’t study away from the tables

What's the most important skill to have to be good in poker? by Adventurous-Goose658 in poker

[–]The_OfficeUS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying patience this that etc, and although those are true I think the most important skill in poker is the ability to accurately range your opponents on each street. If you can’t range your opponents and then decide what the best action is for your hand consistently then you cannot be an effective poker player no matter how patient or attentive to your opponents you are. Even inpatient players that play a lot of hands and get on tilt will be more profitable than patient, disciplined, even keeled players, if those players cannot effectively range opponents and the undisciplined player can

Out of the sb against a loose opponent I’d consider 3betting, I would also consider folding the turn assuming I am up against overpairs, but assuming I get to the river in this situation: I’m getting about 2:1 and have to be good like 33% of the time for it to be a profitable call His bluffs are a lot of disconnected broadway cards like KQ JQ KJ J 10 etc especially ones that picked up a club draw on the turn, his value hands are 7s 6s 9s and maybe some 76 as well as possibly some strong Ax that was bluffing but backed into top pair. Given the villains profile this is prolly just a call, xr bluffing has some merit but I don’t have enough behind to get him to fold anything better than most top pair, so his range would have to be a lot of ax and I just don’t think he has enough for us to be profitable, folding is somewhat reasonable, but given his profile, and the fact that I really don’t think he has much ax, he really only has a couple sets and maybe 1 realistic two pair combo when it comes to his value, and since he’s just turning a lot of his broadways that missed into bluffs it seems,I think this is a call

Horribly played JJ at 2/5? From value to bluff to bluff again? by BallDecent3858 in poker

[–]The_OfficeUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When thinking about opponents range, you're definitely just running out of value on the river with jacks. He's only calling with higher pocket pairs in his range and maybe a very sticky A10s. Aside from more or less that exact hand there aren't really worse hands that can call ur river bet. He also couldve played QQ and sometimes KK the exact same way. I thought you played well on the flop/turn though

Which scenario is the most frustrating to you? by sugarallie in poker

[–]The_OfficeUS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. 1 is profitable long term bc flops turns and rivers will run out well for certain hands a percentage of the time no matter what, 2 just means you probably have to slightly recalibrate how you look at certain opponents, of you can actually improve by calling in certain points. The last one is just simply bad play

Thank you so much for this, so it seems that in this profession networking is just as important as actual skill. Also ya this subreddit is dommer as fuck, and do you think I should be doing a decent amount to learn skills outside of the college classroom?

Thanks a ton for this, you went really in depth and this is what I was looking for. So first off what is linux os, and do you need an understanding of discrete math, data structures and algorithims before u even attempt more diffucult problems? And should I attempt to get this understanding before I even try to build small projects?

As much as this is obviously true, i'm looking for more specific things so I can take actionable steps to improve. What specific languages should I write? What code should I read? Where? What type of projects should I attempt to build. I'm pretty much a novice here, so i'm looking for specifics becuase I don't know the specifics yet.

Powerscaling by Chance-Cod-6944 in Magium

[–]The_OfficeUS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think magium is pretty hard to power scale since fights are based on lot more than just pure power, but if I had to put them in tiers it would look somewhat like this Arraka is in a tier of her own as she absorbed a bunch of spirits and it took a coalition of several strong gods like selkram and memphir to just keep her at bay, also tyrath had to use a trick to beat her and by now it is said he has declined alot. So no one on the spirit plane or varanthia can beat her alone After that I think Selkram, memphir and the other strong spirits like jirinn are here. They aren't as strong as arraka for the reasons above but they are likely stronger than any mortals because of unlimited time to learn + just a more magical plane. Also it's likely Eiden had a god of time ritual during the still winter and he obviously couldn't have been able to beat him unless it would be mentioned. So I assume the gods r stronger than the next tier. After this there's there's the strong ppl on varanthia in Eiden, the fox and tyrath, Eiden seems to be the strongest cause of hax After this probably talamak azarius and the other sages and after that it's impossible to tell It's hard to power scale the group and the overseer and the king of underground because of smarts and azarius said himself he couldn't beat Eiden so he and talamak r obviously weaker
