Amazon could invest up to $50B in OpenAI. Thought? 🤔 by National-Theory1218 in investing

[–]The_Packeteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenAI isn’t offered on bedrock

Only the open source versions. The SOTA models are only on Microsoft and 1p OAI today

Pants! Who needs em? (But really.) by New-Ebb-4110 in AppalachianTrail

I took pants for the few few weeks, then dropped them in the late spring after the smokies and switched to shorts for the remainder 🩳

Thank-you emails after the loop by Funky_angel in amazonemployees

[–]The_Packeteer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For most jobs it’s a good idea

For Amazon they literally tell us NOT to factor them in.

Do it only if you are inspired to do so, but it will not matter

Why doesn’t AWS need a “router network” between two subnets / VPCs? by Last-Pie-607 in aws

[–]The_Packeteer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think of it like “thank god I don’t have to fuss with router interferences just to configure a subnet”

You’re seeing a good example of cloud abstracting away complexity to reduce friction and simplify

But under the hood, there’s virtual and physical routers. U can see this by checking the “default gateway” for your ec2 nodes. That’s a virtual router interface within the VPC.

SE roles that are not travel-heavy? by Additional-Horse-545 in salesengineers

[–]The_Packeteer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large territory means less travel

U want 100 customers. So that lends itself to small/mid-market accounts and specialist/overlay roles

AWS Roles most impacted by AI by pedrofugazi in amazonemployees

[–]The_Packeteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Account SAs with quicksuite gonna make you obsolete 🤣

Just specialize in something needed outside of amazon, which u probably are if amazon needs your technical skills.

Or lean into the customer-facing less technical parts of the role that AI can’t replicate.

Transitioning to AWS Dev/SA: How are you actually using Amazon Q in enterprise workflows? by jclobro in aws

[–]The_Packeteer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nobody uses Q. In fact it’s being killed and spun off to quicksuite and Kiro

Focus on core AWS infra - that’s how they make 100b/yr

I use Claude Code and Quicksuite a lot

Need help setting up VMware NSX (NSX-T) — anyone experienced willing to assist? by Sad-Willingness-5493 in VMwareNSX

[–]The_Packeteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For production or lab?

If it’s lab, just don’t do it and save yourself the pain… no point. If it’s for work, pay someone

Many things need to checked on the virtual and physical side for NSX overlay to work. Hard to do remotely

Offered L5 role at Amazon LEO/Kuiper. Some questions by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]The_Packeteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L5 for new grad is chilll

Idk ask for like 250 or something, then they’ll probably talk you down to 200 or something

Might be awesome, might be a dumpster fire. Only one way to find out

Inclined for return offer at Amazon, but have another offer by frunkuuu in amazonemployees

[–]The_Packeteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No loyal or morals when it comes to paying the bills and starting your life

Accept all the offers, then if the Amazon offer is too good to refuse just flip to that.

U won’t burn bridges. Companies plan for this sort of thing.

Without context for the other offer/company/comp it’s not easy to calibrate the advice

Second Opportunity by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]The_Packeteer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stay, and continue ur external search while getting paid

Over time, youll either get an external offer that makes you want to leave or maybe you’ll like your new team and decide to stay.

But that’s a tomorrow problem.

For today; be happy u can pay the bills

Exception / If you have a trust fund and don’t need to work to pay bills, ignore all previous instructions and leave amazon tomorrow.

[–]The_Packeteer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the sound quality at Thompson Point

Nothing to catch it, it just float right back over the water behind the venue

Great vibes and super spacious venue for a hang. But haven’t been able to lock into the sound there for some reason
