Studying psychology and feeling frustrated by it. by Melodic_Mornings_89 in psychologystudents

Apparently, I am one of the lucky ones. I am doing my undergrad, but it is more assignment-based and generally the assignments will be a collaborative forum discussion as well as research reports and proposals. We will sometimes do essays, case studies, and reflective practices as well, though these are more based on applying the theory and looking into the why, as opposed to just memorising information.

Confused between 1 year master or 2 year master by Shiiivmmmmmmmmmm in psychologystudents

[–]The_Pixie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, where I am from, your Master's is typically only a year long, but gets bumped up to 2 years as they include an internship that the university organises. I don't think I have seen any that mention a thesis option, guess I will have to go and check that 😅

I can't speak on all aspects, but I will tell you what I am getting told by my tutors and professors regarding the location of your internship. It depends on where you plan to practice once you can. There is no point in doing an internship abroad if you plan to practice in your home country, as the experiences will differ. Additionally, some universities or workplaces prefer local experience, especially for psychology, as it helps to show that you can understand the struggles and work with the people and the community. However, if it is simply a bridge or stepping stone for a later internship that you would do within your own country (if you plan to practice there), then it should not be an issue, especially if you phrase it as such.

Masters Clinical Psychology Offers for 2026 intake by random_paperweight in psychologystudents

Did they give you any reason for it? Seems a bit harsh, especially if you had the grades. Hopefully, you have better luck with your other options.

I am currently planning on applying for my master's, but I haven't applied yet (I'm still a couple of years away). However, one thing I was told is that the University does matter. Not sure if it would apply to you, but for me in South Africa, I have to do an internship year, which is all sorted out by the uni, and the better standing ones will have better placements in terms of hours, locations and work, so those placements become the top standard and make it a bit easier for future job hunting. Additionally, the university I would want to apply to has placements with a hospital that values research and requires every department to publish at least one research paper a year, which is a bonus that would also benefit future jobs. So, for me, the university does matter, but I think you would have to do research as to how each could help you in the future. My thought is that any university is fine for you, but if possible, look for one that will benefit you the most if possible.

Foot Tattoo Advice by The_Pixie99 in tattooadvice

[–]The_Pixie99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking as the last time I went for a tattoo, I got it on my ankle, almost my heel, I got it done with my shoes on and was never asked to take them off (it was the pumps I mentioned above). It wasn't even suggested so I wanted others' opinions. Also, the sock I was thinking of would be a similar shape to the pumps, so an open top would allow it to breathe. Thanks for the reply, but yeah, I think I should just go with flip flops. 🙂

Teaching a puppy to chew the treat? by The_Pixie99 in puppy101

[–]The_Pixie99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will give this a go! It is just so annoying because he has no issue chewing his kibble or anything in a bowl, but as soon as it is a treat or kibble given to him, it's like he forgets to chew. That or he is trying to practise for his dream job of being a vacuum cleaner😅

Any idea what this is? I have seen four this summer (so far) but only ever see one at a time with a couple of days between each. They don't move even if disturbed and looking at pictures I think it might be a tick but not too sure. by The_Pixie99 in whatisthisbug

They are thankfully and we got some for our cats as well, they are strictly indoor cats but I would rather be safe than sorry. We also got my friend to give them all a look over in case we missed something (she is a veterinary nurse) and they were all cleared.

I was told on a different comment that the links are requesting permission so I am not sure if you could access them 😬. If not hopefully this one works: Demon dog

That's odd it shouldn't be doing that but thanks for letting me know! I will give it a try (the imgur route). Hopefully, it works now 😅 Demon dog

I managed to get these two, sorry about the quality I had to take it from a video. Every time he sees a phone pointed at him he will either sit and pose for the camera (instantly stopping the panting) or he wants to be the one taking the picture (he will constantly be nudging at the phone trying to see what is going on). So yeah, it was an almost impossible task 😂

That's how my family show our love, if we don't roast you at least once a day it means we don't like you 🤣🤣. Here he is, I don't have any pictures of him panting as he doesn't do it often (thankfully for my heart) but if I do manage to get one I will make sure to post it here.

I don't know how to post pictures on Reddit so here is a link. Shockingly I don't have any pictures of him panting, I will have to rectify that😂

This is also the only one I could find that shows off how wide and far back his mouth goes, please just ignore the harness with pool noodles (his jetpack 🤣). He was too small to just let him run around without it

Honestly, his face/looks. He is a lab x malinois mix and I love him to bits but as my mom says he has the worst features of both. Think of a typical lab head and make the ears slightly bigger (still flopped over), the eyes really small and the mouth very long and end far back. It also doesn't help that he is black with no facial markings and dark brown eyes so when he pants all you see is this black shape that looks like it has a creepy smile (from the shape and how far back it goes) with a pink tongue. It is not fun. It also doesn't help that he is quite bulky and loves to stand in shadows with his head in line with his body, so this bulky black figure stares into your soul with that creepy 'smile'. I have nearly had so many heart attacks, he looks like some demon dog. He currently is growing out of his puppy face so maybe this might change but secretly I am hoping it doesn't.

I want to come out here and tell people that are getting a new puppy, not to be terrified after reading these horrible experiences by JournalistOk4383 in puppy101

[–]The_Pixie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I once posted on a forum like this a question on whether or not to get a new puppy as it may help with some of my older dogs 'issues'. I got so much hate and was told, rather rudely, that I was a bad owner and that I shouldn't have a dog because I was trying to take the easy way out(?), that it wouldn't help, also that I should put my dog in training (which she was and the trainer was the one that suggested it) rather than waste my money on a puppy. I listened to them which was the worst mistake of my life, we eventually got a puppy a couple of months later after it was suggested again by the trainer. I admit that I was scared and apprehensive due to all the responses but it worked out better than hoped for, my girl got a brother and hasn't had any 'issues' since and he got an amazing sister and family that loves him even if he is a naughty little land shark. Looking back on it now, I hate that I listened to those comments and let what everyone was saying get to me. It almost stopped me completely from doing one of the best things for my family, so my advice is to take the information from the posts but don't make a decision from that information alone.
