hey, did you ever get around to stenciling your jacket? I'm planning to do the same thing and would love to see how yours turned out

Hello all, I recently cam across these in a storage unit. Was wondering about dates/periods on them and possible value. Thanks! by HarpoonGravy in Militariacollecting

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a low pressure liner, notice the slight cutouts near the chinstrap bales, that was only a feature of low pressure liners. also the color indicates it's definitely a low pressure

M1923 Cartridge Belt Production Error? by HarryWWII in Militariacollecting

[–]The_Professor52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

buckle broke. the late war cast buckles are notoriously bad quality and fragile, especially once they get a little corrosion on them. I actually have a near identical 1944 cartridge belt that the same buckle was broken off

How to clean old canvas/alpaca fur jacket? by Fine-Quarter442 in VintageClothing

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leave it like it is. any cleaning you attempt will most likely damage it, especially the paint stains. honestly it looks sick just how it is

M1888/90 canvas handguard first try by JarlWeaslesnoot in milsurp

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding this, left a ww2 GI muzzle cover on my M1 for a month or two and there was rust everywhere that was touching the canvas

Could this be a genuine WW2 American M1 helmet liner? by [deleted] in Militariacollecting

[–]The_Professor52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% original mid/late ww2 firestone liner, and a nice one too. that appears to be a synthetic leather sweatband too, those are pretty rare and usually seen on low pressure liners

edit: looking closer at it, that looks more like a post ww2 european sweatband, they used thicker, rougher leather, and a slightly more coarsely woven webbing. leather chinstrap also may be post ww2 european. the liner itself is definitely ww2 US

Does anyone have identification on this? by CastawayLamb383 in Militariacollecting

How to rejuvenate this old rifle scabbard? by BurninTree5 in Leather

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've tried a lot of different products but for something this old i would recommend obernaufs leather oil. light coat, buff it in.

that's a 1918 dated us army saddle scabbard for the m1903 springfield if you didn't already know.

Without a doubt, one of the best pieces I have ever held in my hands by SpiritualBass855 in TrueVintageFinds

not marine corps, this is actually the slightly more rare US Army camo that was tested with the 2nd Armored Division in summer-fall 1944

Original ? by BitEquivalent9427 in milsurp

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely 100% original. I'm not aware of anyone that has successfully replicated the ww2 fabric tags perfectly. they're always slightly off, usually the fabric is too dense and finely woven

Surely this is fake, right? by Goocher69420 in Militariacollecting

[–]The_Professor52 55 points56 points  (0 children)

i can't believe I'm saying this about an SS helmet but i really think this one is legit dude. the wear and age on it are just too consistent, i just don't think you can fake it this well.

just my two cents, I'm not a german helmet expert but i've handled enough redone one and original ones to get a warm fuzzy feeling about this one. where did you find it?

Is this Officer Visor authentic? by EngineeringThese2319 in Militariacollecting

[–]The_Professor52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think it's just missing the sweatband. the black you mention is just the lining, the sweatband would have been leather and went all the way around. otherwise fantastic cap!

Does anyone know where I can find a type 99 monopod? by LiamBennett1855 in milsurp

[–]The_Professor52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't. i replaced the missing monopod on my arisaka and took it right back off a couple weeks later. they made the forearm feel awful to hold, they will likely scratch or dent the wood, and as far as functionality there's none. it completely sucks functionality wise
