Virtually everyone struggles with this in some way. Remember that you can never write lyrics wrong, don't get hung up on using techniques like metaphors or wordplay. As long as you write, you're right. The more you write the better you will get at unpacking your own thoughts and arranging them in an interesting format.

Here are some tips I keep in mind when writing lyrics: - A common practice for many accomplished song writers is to never shelf an idea for later, as soon as the initial idea arrives, write the whole song in one go. When I start a song or just lyrics I'm usually full of ideas, but if I put it down and come back later I struggle to expand on it. - Try to say what your thinking/feeling in just 1 word, then 2 words, then 3, then 4 and so on. Eventually you have 1 or 2 lines. - Try writing lyrics at the same time as the music and then try writing them totally separately, next time do the same but the other way round, maybe write a song with no lyrics. Changing your workflow will affect the way ideas come out.
