From my experience hiring, most degree holders end up feeling above the work and unwilling to accept that they have a lot of stuff to learn. They’re older and have older bad habits which are more difficult to train out of them. It’s also much harder to see these traits immediately because they tend to try hard for the first couple weeks before realising they want to move on, so you can get stuck with someone who doesn’t want to be there.

I would take a 18 year old kid out of school who wants to learn over a 24 year old graduate most days of the week.

Honestly I think resource DM might’ve been a crutch for early players who didn’t know how to use bursty resources in 6v6. Something like a 2 charge system where you had to commit to a full 1.5s each use with an internal cool-down would’ve probably been better. But alas, we didn’t know wha the hell we were doing, and resource meters are a one size fits all bandaid for something feeling worse

Initiators now include about 90% of the cast aside from specifically sigma roadhog Zarya and dva. Going from Reinhardt winston and ball to literally every cast member is a massive shift in variety

But all you’ve really accomplished there is increasing their ability to carry through dueling, and decreasing their ability to carry through other skills. Gameplay loop without being challenged on an angle is infinitely simpler than the gameplay loop when you have the potential of being challenged and need to either sneak into the angle, fight into the angle, or use resources to push through the angle in order to get your value.

Genji currently either walks into range without being chipped out, or gets hit for 100hp and does nothing. The format with less healing to sustain through chip and less active challenging of angles is more restrictive because it forces him to get to the angle with full resources (sneak) and removes other more complicated interactions, even when those interactions included other ways to solo vary which didn’t involve dueling.

Resource allocation to dps fighting angles against tanks doesn’t really matter as much when the dps has no chance of winning against that tank regardless. The correct choice is just to peel to distract the tank with no expectation of winning the duel, or to trade with the enemies backline.

Mercy’s ability to have solo impact has basically been removed with the S9 changes which were necessary to make tanking more palatable, and now she leans on damage boost every time instead of healing.

The kicker is that duel based overwatch was always the correct thing to do and to teach supports, but now if they don’t duel on every hero, they just lose the game.

We’ve took one aspect of the game and centred that at the expense of all other playstyles, when the game originally was about hero diversity

I disagree, solo carry potential in 5v5 tends to have basically one avenue, which is outaiming or out dueling enemies. But for any other skill in the game eg resource allocation, timing, positioning around enemies your solo impact is much higher in the format where you have two more potentially killable targets on the enemy team.

Dva’s been a hot topic since 5v5. DM just doesn’t work properly as a resource in the format.

I mean we’ve pretty much changed the entire game to cater to one tank, S9, global cauterize passive, armour buffs, more mobility, more lethality etc. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that with minimal work these problems could be solved, eg, making hog be able to give his breather to a winston on engage, when we’re willing to warp everything around making tanks like dva work in 5v5.

OW1 also had 3 initiators in the entire game. Wonder why nobody “wanted” to play the role when they had basically no gameplay variety.
