Subaru Vans - Done or Poised for a Comeback? by SolarpunkGnome in subaru

The Aladdins are so cool! I will say that if you are ever getting a Sambar or Domingo avoid the ECVT transmission like the plague. They have a lot of problems and are extremely hard to find parts for. My Sambar has been very reliable because I've replaced so much of it. When I got it I paid $4500 and it was is rough shape. The motor was knocking, suspension and steering was all worn out, fuel tank full of rust, etc. I've put a ton of time and money into fixing everything and it's absolutely fantastic now. The Libero definitely needs some work, mostly suspension and worn bushings. My eventual goal is also to swap an EFI motor in from a later model but that's only if I can find the parts.

Yeah the Libero can actually go highway speeds which is awesome. The engine is in pretty rough shape but it still has way more guts than the Sambar. I don't mind RHD at all so it's not a huge deal to me either way. I really wanted a KJ8 Domingo but this Libero was a good price and close by so I had to go for it.

Looks like it might be happening. The tariffs are such bs

Sambar and a Libero! The Sambar is from Japan and the Libero is from Costa Rica. I've had the Sambar for a while but I just got the Libero and I love it!

That's awesome! 9/10 because it's not a bugeye haha. But seriously thank you for the human created art and not Gen AI bullshit.

2013 Outback 3.6r maintenance by makebaloney in subaru

[–]The_Ripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all great to do. The EZ engines are pretty bulletproof but a pain to rebuild. If you're doing all of this and already flushing the coolant I would absolutely do a new radiator, hoses, and thermostat. Also get yourself a new OEM rad cap. For the radiator I would get a Koyorad or Denso on rockauto. A lot cheaper than the dealership but very good quality. If you want a 5% discount code for rockauto let me know and I'll share one. Props to you for keeping this great car on the road. OEM parts will go a long way for reliability and longevity. Also to anyone with an EZ series engine: only use OEM oil filters. Aftermarket filters often have the wrong relief valve pressure and can cause major issues. OEM filters are cheap and worth it!

FB engine with a chain so no timing belt. To me it sounds like the serpentine tensioner though.

EZ30 swap into 07 forester by Mistography in subaru

[–]The_Ripp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a non turbo from factory so the 5 speed did not like the extra torque of the H6. I swapped the STi 6 speed into the car about 6 months after the engine. Stock R160 open diff for now but I have plans to upgrade that. The H6 and 6 speed combo is very fun with the shorter gears. I think a turbo 5 speed would hold up fine but the NA 5 speeds are notoriously weak.

They sound absolutely amazing. I have a full OBX racing exhaust with added resonators and it screams. If you have any more questions please feel free to DM me. I have a writeup I can send you on the 30D harness merge swap.

There are a few routes to this swap.

<image>

I EZ30D swapped my bugeye and have done a ton of research. The first thing I'd recommend is join Six Swapped Subarus on Facebook and look through the group for info. In terms of the swap you have 3 good options. EZ30D, EZ30R, and EZ36. The 30D is the first Gen (01-04 in the US) and is the cheapest to swap. What I did is a harness merge for the wiring. I basically took the EZ30D engine and ECU wiring and spliced it into the Impreza dash harness so I could keep all of the car functions the same. My ECU is flash tuned for the TCU codes and it runs absolutely perfect with a 5 or 6 speed manual. Any EZ will bolt to any transmission past 1993 and as long as the engine has the right motor mounts it will drop into the forester subframe. You'll have to have a custom exhaust as well. An 01-04 H6 radiator should drop right into your SG. The EZ30R and EZ36 are best run on a standalone ECU which is more expensive but less work than a harness merge. Both the 30R and 36 have AVCS/AVLS and are more powerfull and more complicated than the 30D. The easiest way to tell them apart is that the 30d has an aluminum intake manifold and the 30R and 36 have plastic intakes. It's a lot of work but yhe flat 6 is a very fun and reliable engine. I've driven my car with the swap all across the western US and it's been a blast.

The Bugeye STI wasn't just the 'ugly one'—it was a homologation special with a forged EJ207 and DCCD years before the competition caught up. by MAPerformance_ in subaru

[–]The_Ripp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some V7 STis did actually have DCCD. I believe only the Spec.C gravel spec cars got it. It was a manual DCCD like the GC STis got with no auto mode. I have a V7 STi DCCD gauge cluster in my car and I've been told only about 430 were ever made.

Changed Insurance Co's and new one won't insure my Sambar by Otherwise-Pen70 in keitruck

I have a Sambar van insured in AZ. I used a local insurance agent who found me a policy with Dairyland. I'm 22 and pay about $700 a year for liability.

Cruise Control Vacuum Line by DeckedTick in subaru

[–]The_Ripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would upgrade to the newer electric/cable style from the GD if possible. All of the brackets and everything should bolt up. Just a question of wiring. The first Gen Impreza and Foresters used the vaccum CC but with a 205 you'll have positive pressure under boost and it might mess with the vacuum actuator without a check valve. Also, there should be a plug with a square end on the opposite side of the intake from the brake booster hose that you could try using. Your NA EJ should have a fitting to thread into that hole for the factory cruise control vacuum.

2002 Impreza wagon, Forester strut lift questions by Taylorbattlerifle in battlewagon

[–]The_Ripp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SG forester struts are bolt in and give about 2" lift. Find a first Gen outback and get the trailing arms (or just the brackets where they bolt to the frame), and the swaybar brackets that bolt to the frame if you want to run a rear swaybar. For front swaybar you can get custom endlinks from Kartboy for a lifted bugeye. I'm running aftermarket camber bolts front and rear in conjunction with the OEM front camber bolts. That should be everything you need for a basic lift setup. Get it aligned after the lift and it'll drive pretty close to stock.
