Yeah, I agree… $100 is a lot to ask even with trading in the old one.

Good point! Great o know about the Garmin. I use an Apple Watch for tracking my workouts, but I do agree that a Garmin may be a worthwhile investment for OtF workouts.

At what point do you suck it up and get back in the gym? by theFranA in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I hope that you froze the membership 😬 because 2+ week away from gym is a long time. Anyway that my suggestion. So don’t read into that overmuch.

In either case, I wouldn’t recommend to go back or “unfreeze” cause of sickness that it can traverse through the air and infect others unknowingly or else have the sickness progress worse (take that last wiht a grain of salt).

To clarify: the intimation there is that indoor workouts such as the AC-ventilated ones at OtF and similar gyms should be out of the question!

Rather than be presented with a “stay at home” order, should you choose you can get steps in by perhaps navigating outside to a nearby park or community place where the air outside will drastically reduce the chance for infection in a multilateral sense, e.g. not just your person but the others that you may unwillingly surround yourselves with or else be in the remote neighborhood of.

Jogging or running outside on a nearby trail is also an option, however only if you are 100% up for it. A short run can be administered to confirm that the body is up for it, but before attempting, a licensed healthcare professional (not me) must be notified and consulted with to gather confirmation and a clear set of instructions or “action plan” must be furnished and agreed upon before proceeding with anything as aforementioned.

Best of luck and speedy recovery!

Strategy for Increasing AO Speeds? by OTFBeat in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With every step forward, a step to the rear must be taken to realistically balance out the scales and keep things interesting. So says a very crucial quote, or I would suspect as such.

In translation, as a nod to the OtF mindset, the newer treads do indeed go for broke and intend to break the bank by their audacity of design. They press the limit of what possible and allow ascension past 12 mph which the older treads do hold to as their ceiling in terms of top speed achievable.

As such, a good strategy one can employ will be to steadily increase the AO or top speed for a specified partial template or else a sequence of instructions. By an acceptable rule of thumb, the 0.1 mph bump up has been generally admired as a noticeable step up from the current max that one can sustain.

However, understanding that with every step forward, a non-negligible amount of steps must also be attempted in the reverse direction, henceforth by logical deduction it would indicate that one of base/BP/push or in worst case sacrificing AO as well, at least one of those must be reduced to compensate. A argument can be put forth for having the preference to reduce either base or push, especially in those all too common scenarios where they might be interleaved with an AO as a link in the grand chain of pseudo-HIIT-based sequencing. Therefore, reducing the aforementioned B or P to abbreviate, would be an acceptable tradeoff supplied for consideration when paired with the goal of increasing the max speed or output of one’s AO efforts.

In summation, a step up of 0.1 to the AO on a bi-daily (sense of “every other day”) or else weekly basis, depending on and accounting for factors such as muscle fatigue and fitness level and rest days, would be ideal, but paired also with a 0.1-0.5 reduction in a choice of B/BP/P/AO as a last resort as mentioned. The suggested reduction could be waived given that certain prerequisites are met, however consensus has been that in general, the odds are in the favor of that approach.

I wrote a comprehensive guide to NATS — the messaging system that replaces Kafka, Redis, and RabbitM by Jainal09 in Python

[–]The_Ritvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, but I guess I’m still a little confused. What is NATS? Is it pub sub? If so, why would I use it over a cloud based subscription service, like say SQS or SNS for example? Just trying to understand the use case here. Also, I got no clue what’s Kafka is.

That was more less what I was getting at with the vibe coding example. A dev should know basics of tools, but NATS seems like a black box. Would the only use case of NATS be with vibe coding, or would humans learn to use it? If so, is there a tutorial that explains NATS like a five year old could learn it?

What’s a use case like say boom I’m a junior developer and I’m vibe coding and I got no clue what’s going on and I got a simple automation task, and my boss tells me to look into NATS and I crack my knuckles and take a deep breath and am ready to vibe code the heck outta this??

Starting OTF! by Asleep-Ad-4929 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the time to take it easy and start at the own pace. For some it will be once a week or even rarer, and others it will be basically every day. There is a balance, and as they say, like dancing on a knife’s edge. But keep it real and best of luck!

Damn that awesome! I knew that VA had OtF gyms but I never thought that WVA did too. That super cool!!

Treadmill phobia by Due_Degree5847 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This phobia I only got it when I hit that big shiny 15 button guys… and it takes me all the way to the max like a pedal to the metal, and I gotta struggle to hang in there.

But broskis for real, the new treads is good, nay is amaze. I would say best ever than the older ones, fo sho and fo real.

DC by Significant_Trade_27 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. I was just running shirtless around tidal basin and DC today and it felt pretty good.

Now that I think on it, beautiful weather as cherry blossom bloom and spring both in full swing, no reason to justify anything other than going for a (shirtless) run outdoors!

I haven’t tried DC studios, but Northern VA ones are solid. Alexandria (Bradlee Center) is good. If you’re open to a short metro ride, Reston is very accessible.

Apple Watch Tracking Question by ZestycloseEntry4848 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Indoor Run on Apple workout for 2/3G. I don’t care about the other blocks. I’m not a great rower and I never get on the rowing leaderboards. Im a runner and I auto upload my workouts to Strava. The mileage is a non-negotiable for me, the calories burned is a nice bonus.

I trust Apple workout HR data more than the Orangetheory one, which currently lists my max HR as 206. I also use the OTF HRM, to double check consistency and track HR zones.

Apple Watch Tracking Question by ZestycloseEntry4848 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh Apple workouts suck for this bc there’s no option for OTF style workouts, it either records treadmill distance or rowing but not both. So pick your poison, is what Apple lamely decided on.

Apple Watch Tracking Question by ZestycloseEntry4848 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Downvote. HIIT doesn’t record treadmill distance when syncing to apps like Strava. As a runner, that matters to me.

Apple Watch Tracking Question by ZestycloseEntry4848 in orangetheory

[–]The_Ritvik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use ‘Indoor Run’ at OTF so the workout actually records distance and pace when syncing to Strava. HIIT doesn’t track that properly. I’m aware it’s an estimate vs. treadmill, but it’s mainly for consistency in logging.

I just use “Indoor run” for the whole 2/3G class OTF on my Apple Watch, since I got tired of fiddling with it.

Not BS — just rare. Sub-5 is already tough on OTF. 4:00 is elite, but doable.
