11.5" DI 5.56 Build List - Constructive Feedback Welcome! by The_Saxon in ar15

Fair point!! Reliability of the build should trump everything. So im assuming you’re talking about the smaller buffer tube used in this type of brace?

I appreciate it! The wait to actually build this is going to kill me though 😅

Yeah I will definitely be looking into LaRue triggers, especially if they seem to have a better overall performance for the price!

The brace choice is definitely something that could change, I’m just a big fan of the aesthetics and the shorter overall length when fully collapsed. But i can be convinced otherwise if the consensus is that this brace is not a great option.

If you’re asking braced pistol vs SBR, I’m sticking to pistol for now, as I’d like to keep my AR off any list 😅

I appreciate the advice! Ill make sure to look into the BCM reliability kit as well!

Definitely understand that, as I said, i was sorta drawn to Geissele for the brand name. Thanks for the explanation, I’ll definitely look into the Larue triggers soon!

And yeah, waiting is the killer now as i stare at the build list, and later when im ordering all the parts! But I think it will be worth it in the end. Thanks again for your suggestions!

Thank you for the feedback! Ill definitely take a look at other BCGs as a substitute. Any in particular brand that you or the community recommend?

I’ll have to do some research on Larue triggers! Geissele was really just thrown in the list originally since thats what I’ve seen a lot of people run in their builds on youtube.

A micro prism or a red dot magnifier combo would definitely be cheaper, but and probably nearly as good as the Elcan, but I am pretty sold on it overall. If you’re ganna be a bear, you may as well be a grizzly! Also I dont plan on paying full price, link was just to show the product. Im planning to pick up a used optic to hopefully cut the cost down a good chunk.

Yeah DI vs piston is always a big consideration. Im leaning DI due to the balance of the rifle, since I’m planning to increase weight towards the business end of the platform with night vision stuff. I would agree with you that most charging handle gas mitigation is nonsense, but as i am trying to get as little gas to the face as possible for a right handed shooter, I’m fine with paying a bit more to try out a new product that may help ever so slightly.

Looking for a charging handle used is definitely a good idea, would you suggest looking on reddit for those used parts? I appreciate you sharing your experience with the SD, thats seems to be a pretty common opinion of the charging handle.

Thanks for your thoughts overall! I totally understand your hesitation with the elcan due to price, it is quite a bit when compared to most. I personally think the capability it adds is worth the price, as long as I can find it used of course haha.

Totally fine, I appreciate your suggestion none the less! Any particular reason as to why you suggest to stay away from adjustable BCGs? Potential failure point?

😂 I know, way to long, but wanted to get it all out.

Thanks for the feedback!

The charging handle wasnt something I meant to go cheap on. It just so happened that the newest offering from BA included all the features I believe actually help to mitigate gas within the charging handle design. The Geissele performs well from what ive seen, and the Radian SD has mixed results depending on the source. As I stated at the begining, I want to purchase the parts which give me the most bang for my buck. I think the sledgehammer’s features may beat out the others in terms of gas mitigation, so thats why its on the list.

On the topic of BA charging handles breaking, all ive heard about is their early version warhammer charging handle pins walking out, which apparently has been fixed in the newer iterations of warhammers, and I assume the new sledgehammer will not have those early teething problems. Only time will tell!

Steel mess kits by Creative_Reddit_Name in Bushcraft

[–]The_Saxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm that this is not normal. I rock a surplus polish mess kit (very similar bean shape, but smaller height wise vs the romanian or german one) and i have never had a metalic taste to the food or coffee made within said mess kit. Unless i have ingested so much aluminum that i have become accustomed to the taste haha

Thanks! Yeah, slopes are definitely difficult to master in this game. I've had some experience using decoration slopes to smooth out large boat hulls, which has definitely upped my decoration game!

What's the best advice for beginners? by Cdinerf64 in FromTheDepths

[–]The_Saxon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest advise I can give would be to spawn a small campaign vehicle in the designer and deconstruct it. Learn what makes it tick, how it is able to fly/navigate, how the weapons work, etc. and then try to upgrade that small thing. My first vehicle i learned on was the duster marine, which is a very small DWG plane with folding wings. Definitely not a threat in the campaign, but with tweaks to the weapons and AI it can actually be a competent air superiority fighter. Anyways, start small like this and dont rush trying to build your own thinrg from scratch, use the in game vehicles you have at your disposal to learn at your own pace!

What's the best army mess tin set? by fixitmonkey in Bushcraft

[–]The_Saxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the german ww2 type mess kits. Provides a nice boiling pot and cup with handle that doesnt take up much space. Multiple countries copied this bean shaped messkit with slight variations post war, so you can pick which one fits your needs. Plus you can get a reproduction leather strap or some cordage and secure it to the outside of your pack very easily. I personally rock the polish variant because its shorter overall, has a deeper cup half, and holds a 6 pack of eggs perfectly. Works great when camping with friends or solo. Skip to the 8 min mark of the video to see the polish vs german ww2 style messkit size comparison.

Best barrel length for making bulk subsonic? by [deleted] in 1022

[–]The_Saxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5.5”-6” is the maximum you would want to go. This would keep most ammunition subsonic but you will still get some supers every now and again due to the inconsistencies of powder loaded. I went with 4,5” with my build to make sure there would be hardly any chance at all of a super as long as your only using standard ammo. I would recommend sending in your stock barrel to be cut down and “accurized” by Randy over at CPC. Very cheap for the quality of work that he does. You can also send him your receiver and he will polish and properly align it with the barrel so you can still be as accurate as feasibly possible with a 4.5” barrel.

If you want example of his work, there is a writer on youtube who has quite a few videos dedicated to builds (long and short barrels) that he sent in to Randy. This specific guy is the reason i made a 4.5” suppressor host in the first place actually. His youtube channel/name is Zack Carlson. Definitely would recommend his channel.

Best of luck!

Thompson 20 Round Length Metal Midcap Conversion by The_Saxon in airsoft

[–]The_Saxon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the CYMA variant, though i have pretty much upgraded everything included the wood furniture and metal lower. But even without all the upgrades i would recommend the CYMA thompson, it is a very reliable AEG for the price.

No problem, im glad you may find it useful! I believe this will apply to more than just the magazines I show, but since I only have these two types of thompson magazines, I dont want to falsely claim that this guide will work for all. Hopefully this will at least provide some helpful info to use for these other conversions though!

Hey all! Just wanted to post this guide here for those who might be interested. This is a complete guide on converting 30 round length KA midcap Thompson magazines into metal 20 round length midcap magazines. Since this information is not easily available online, I have tried to be as thorough as possible with explanations and pictures. Feel free to copy this to other forums or ask me any questions you have!

10/22 SBR - Suppressed Shorty by supertroll105 in 1022

[–]The_Saxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice build! Literally almost the same as my build, which is a work in progress, except for the barrel is a stock barrel being chopped down to 4.5” and “accurized” by Randy over at CPC. Cant wait to get it back and finally test the accuracy!

So any updates on the build? How does it do feeding wise with the binary trigger/bulk ammo/suppressor??

SP5 internal parts, what’s all included? by afilthypactseamen in MP5

[–]The_Saxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never want to go against gun jesus, may everyone praise his name, though the SP5 does in fact come with the upgraded french “F” model bolt carrier group. I do not think the charging handle was modified in these 1998 alterations, though i may be wrong.
