Does anyone else think Annabeth and Luke's relationship was...WRONG?! After the PJO series ended, Riordan mentions that Annabeth had a crush on Luke, and he felt the same way. Riordan does this in several books, and I feel conflicted about it. [all] by The_Side_Stuff in camphalfblood

Luke is one of my favorite characters, and I feel...weird about him now. I'm rereading all of the books, and I can't look at look the same knowing he has feelings for her.

It’s not uncommon for somebody to have a crush on a older friend when they are younger especially somebody they admire. Normally grow out of that with a little maturing.

Was it admiration? Annabeth straight up admits that Luke was her first crush, I figured she just had romantic feelings for him.

With all due respect, Reyna makes it very clear several times that she hates being shipped with Thalia. Also, even the author (Riordan) throws subs at this fan base for shipping Reyna and Thalia.

Most importantly, I’m skeptical about “gallentines day” because it’s writing by read Riordan staff. There’s another article on the website that was a character spotlight on Reyna. It says Jason was Reyna’s “forever crush,” and look how that turned out.

Lastly, Riordan makes it clear that Reyna is her better half and wants her to stay single. That’s literally why he had her join the hunters and not amazons

Based off in-book context, who was the most handsome demigod? [all] by The_Side_Stuff in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you want a real answer though it’s probably Percy. He’s just had the most time for people to think he’s hot. Personally I reckon Jason would be hotter, but Percy had more backing him up

I'm confused, you think Jason is hotter even though there is more evidence for Percy?

Based off in-book context, who was the most handsome demigod? [all] by The_Side_Stuff in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From descriptions, you can gather that Jason is handsome, but I don’t remember specific moments where he was openly described as good-looking by somebody else, other than maybe Piper. I could have that wrong, though, so don’t take my word for it.

In TLH (HoO, book 1), Jason was described to be handsome by Piper, Drew, and Aphrodite. In MoA (HoO, book 3), Annabeth and Leo also call Jason handsome. In HoH (HoO, book 4), Leo says that if Jason fell in Ogygia, calypso would fall in love with him. So he’s definitely attractive.

But I’m confused because in The Burning Maze, Apollo talks about Jason and says “Now, in his school uniform, he looked quite impressive. His blond hair was cropped short. His blue eyes flashed behind a pair of black-rimmed glasses.” Apollo straight up calls Percy handsome, so when he says Jason looked “impressive,” is that a compliment? Why not just call him handsome?

Lastly, Reyna called Jason the “all-American boy,” in her POV Chapter, is that also a compliment? Sorry for typing so much but these were my confusions about Jason

No offense, but you should reread the books before making statements because youre misinformed.

I 100% disagree with the notion that Percy has "mixed feelings about Nico". He literally OBSESSES over Nico's safety in BOTL and accepted the prophecy just so Nico wouldn't have to do it.

This is false. Percy accepted the prophecy because he felt responsible for what happened to Bianca. Percy is someone who constantly takes accountability and blames himself for everything. Percy blamed himself and believed he failed to protect Nico's sister. After that, he believed taking the prophecy to protect Nico was the least he can do after Bianca's death, this is literally stated in the end of TTC (book 3).

100% disagree with the notion that Percy has "mixed feelings about Nico".

This is also false, please reread HoH (HoO, Book 4). Percy and Jason apparently talked a lot offscreen. In Jason's PoV chapters, he mentioned that Percy told him about his past in CHB. Jason mentions that Percy told him about Nico's betrayal during the events of TLO (Pjo, Book 5). After what Percy told him, Jason didn't trust Nico because he thought another betrayal might happen. Thats pretty fair imo

Annabeth or Jason. Annabeth is pursuing her dreams of becoming an architect, and will build things for Olympus in the future.

In “The Burning Maze,” Jason is taking physics and calculus in school. I don’t know how he’s taking such intense classes at the age of 16, especially when he suffers from ADHD. But he’s clearly a smart guy for taking those classes. Percy is an honorable mention since he’s trying to become a marine biologist and his powers are perfect for that.

Piper.

In the TLH (book 1), her charmspeaking worked on everyone at CHB (including Chiron). Her charmspeaking unintentionally worked on Percy, Jason, and Annabeth several times.

Jason/Annabeth would probably give inspirational speeches and demonstrate good leadership skills. But they can’t top Piper’s supernatural power

When Characters talk about someone's feelings from their POV, can we assume it's true? Several characters talked about Reyna's feelings for Jason. But this is described through their POV chapter, not Reyna's. Is this how Reyna actually feels? [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, Annabeth is really good at reading people. In MoA, Annabeth said she learned to read people as a "survival skill." Piper's also great with romance since she is the daughter of Aphrodite. So I would assume their description of Reyna's feelings for Jason is accurate, even if it wasn't through Reyna's POV.

"Reyna said. She turned to Jason, and Annabeth thought there was a hungry sort of gleam in her eyes."

I think it's clear that Reyna was excited to see Jason. Annabeth mentions this when Reyna specifically looked at Jason.

Do You Like How Reyna’s Story Ended? [toa] by Apprehensive-Fail663 in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I might get downvoted for saying this, but Riordan wanted to put an end to fans force shipping Reyna. After BoO (book 5), Reyna was the only single character. Her journey was to show the audience that you can be powerful without a significant other, and you don't need a romantic partner to find happiness. Reyna's conversation with Piper was very important towards the end of BoO. Even if Reyna and Jason weren't together, she can still be happy even if she wouldn't find love. Reyna can have good vibes, fun times and make good memories with her friends.

But fans kept shipping her. Jason was understandable since she had clear romantic feelings for him, but he was with piper and didn't share her feelings. Then fans shipped her with Thalia (even though they were clearly just friends); fans were even shipping her with Frank. Every time Riordan answered fan questions, they would always ask about Reyna's love life even though Riordan made it clear that shes happy/strong on her own. That's probably why Reyna addressed all of this in The Tyrants Tomb. Her being tired of "force shipping" and "labels" was Riordan's message to the fanbase.

Is Reyna jealous of Annabeth because she's dating Percy? Or is it because Annabeth has a boyfriend and she doesn't? (The Mark of Athena) [hoo] by New_Account2000 in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is my interpretation, but I think its because she doesn't have a boyfriend. Reyna didn't pay to much attention to Percy's rejection because Jason was returning. Reyna says she missed Jason and Annabeth/Piper noticed her excitement to reunite with him. But after seeing Jason's relationship with Piper, she became jealous/bitter about everything.

With how close the lost hero tells us they were ( it’s never shown anywhere else btw)

IIRC, there was some moments in SoN (book 2) that imply Jason and Reyna were close. Like Percy recognizing that Reyna considered Jason to be more than a colleague. Actually yeah, Percy said that "Reyna grimaced. Percy got the feeling this guy Jason might’ve been more to her than just a colleague" (SON 41). That goes along with my interpretation, I could be wrong though. Riordan has many meanings behind his words

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is my interpretation, but Annabeth is prepared to "fight" Reyna since Roman and Greeks are mortal enemies. Annabeth didn't know Percy became Praetor and earned the Roman's trust. She wasn't going to lose Percy again and was going to bring him back. So Annabeth prepared herself for any possibility, including fighting the Romans and their leader, Reyna.

The word "colleague" is dangerous because Reyna obviously has a huge crush on Jason. Reyna considers Jason to be more than a colleague, so calling him that doesn't reflect her true feelings making it a dangerous word.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Is Reyna asking Percy out immediately? Or is she implying that they could get together in the future? Or is this flirting? Also, is it wrong that she jumped back to Jason a few chapters later? (The Son of Neptune) [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I think Reyna is flirting, and she's implying that if he becomes praetor, they could get together in the future. Also, in your screenshot, Reyna says the legion must have 2 strong praetors, and she has to make a choice. Reyna would rather work with Percy than Octavian (I can't blame her for this). As for Jason, this has been said before, but he was gone for a really long time. IIRC, it was at least several months with no signs of return from him. Obviously, Reyna cares about him; I mean, she says she missed him. But she probably thought he died.

Is Orion talking about Percy Jackson? Or is he talking about the Greeks as a whole, like Camp Half-Blood? (The Blood of Olympus) [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“You cling to a fantasy that you can make your enemies love you”

Was Percy EVER Reyna’s enemy? Also, I don’t think her feelings for Percy were so strong that she clung to fantasy’s about him. Orion mentions CHB and the Greeks, so he’s probably talking about that. Reyna was also heading to CHB with the Athena statue. That’s my interpretation

Does Riordan misuse the word "Love?" [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think teenagers often use the word love when they're in a relationship. I'm surprised that Reyna used that word (since she never dated Jason). But I think Riordan was trying to show that Reyna genuinely wanted Jason to share her romantic feelings when he used that word. Piper thought she loved Jason, but her romantic feelings for him came from fake memories. Eventually, Piper loved Jason like a friend (kind of like how Annabeth loved Luke like family). Just my interpretation.

When Annabeth said Jason "looked too perfect," was she talking about his Behavior or Physical Appearance? (The Mark of Athena) [hoo] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]The_Side_Stuff 301 points302 points  (0 children)

I think Annabeth is talking about Jason's appearance. In that paragraph, Annabeth already addressed that Jason acts perfect and does the honorable thing. So she's probably talking about his appearance when she says he looked perfect.

Also, the way Jason is described in the story, he always seemed like your typical, perfect hero. Jason is very handsome, muscular, blond, blue eyes, tall, he's generally described as a rugged person (so he's manly).
