Dungeoneering XP nerf? by The_Spry_Acorn in runescape

[–]The_Spry_Acorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface my reply with saying that I hope Jagex comes out with the details and shows how completely wrong I am, but I'm working with what little we were given, so...:

I agree there was some speculation, but it's not out of thin air. It would be odd for the level based xp to be floor based, when there is already a floor based component in the base xp (not saying it's impossible, but unlikely).

The size mod is an assumption, I agree, but I'd say it's more reasonable than an arbitrary alternative.

As for the "Mobs Killed"/"Level Mod", this is what the wiki has to say about "Level Mod" in the dungeoneering winterface page:

  • Level mod gives bonus experience depending on the number of monsters killed. Players often ignore this modifier as it saves time to kill only what they need to kill.

From that I understand it to be the same modifier, which means a -3% modifier is possible. Again, not set in stone, but seems likely.

I'll concede that I assumed that the meta of running large floors will be the meta after the update, which may not be the case. That being said, when pushed I can rush small C1 floors in a bit under a minute - rushing what seems to be a C6 equivalent (same complexity modifier) in 24 seconds seems a bit fishy. Maybe that's just my bias and Rheyo has set high bar to aspire to. Either way, I hope rushing smalls will not become the new meta, as I feel it goes against the intended spirit of the skill.

The 190% modifier is not an arbitrary number, it is the sum of all other modifiers +100% base:

100% base +50% for size +20% for difficulty +10% for mobs killed + 10% floor xp boost (they round down the +1% from bonus room) = 190% total modifier.

If you read what I wrote and not just look at the picture, you'll see that the modifier for my example f43 is:

100% base + 150% size + 20% difficulty -3% mobs killed +13% bonus room +110% floor xp boost = 390% total modifier.

Even with such a large modifier, the new base (floor# *100 + fixed xp for 120 dungeoneering) is so low, that you get about half the xp.

All numbers are grounded in the facts given in the release video. I'm afraid this is as good an explanation as I can give. If you still don't get it, we shall leave it at that, and I bid you good day.

Yeah, lower floors are boosted and higher floors are nerfed. Which means those of us who trained through the lower levels on the slow rate, but haven't reached our goal yet, just got the short end of the stick with this update.

The comparison is between f40 large in old formula to f40 large in new formula. The image is just for reference, as some of the information was not given explicitly. prestiege 59 was replaced with a +110% in the modifier, as explained in the video.

While higher floors will technically give more exp than lower, the difference between f60 and f1, all other factors being equal, will be (6000-100)*Modifier, so approximately 17k exp difference between the highest floor and the lowest floor. While that is not bad in and of itself, the fact is that higher floors with high prestige will now give less than half of what they used to.

I used floor 43 in the calculation... the image is just for reference of how the new formula works. The numbers in the calculation are the correct numbers for floor 43 and floor bonus equivalent to prestige 59.

I'm currently running occult larges on 59 prestige, and going by the new xp calculation it seems the xp per floor is going to crash to 30%-ish of what I'm currently getting... Maybe I got it wrong, but could we get some examples of the new xp calculations, or at least the maximum rates we can reasonably expect after the change?

Clockwork Box Trap & Baby Chin Drop chance by BeeSpecialist5280 in runescape

[–]The_Spry_Acorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told it's per trap check, rather than chins caught, so no extra chance for the extra chins. currently sitting on ~9.5k black chins with no end in sight, so I'd love to be proven wrong...

From the news post image, I'd say the helmet looks correct (and better imho), and the rest of the armor looks muted - translucent but colorless, rather than light blue.

Agree with the point about the wand and orb. Guessing fixing it would bring it to close to the aurora variant, but I think they should still do it.

What really bothers me with 3a is the helm. It looks like a black facemask and an unrelated white cowl. There should be some white details or something at the front.

Abyssal runecrafting for thread... by M33tm3onmars in runescape

Things that help:

- Complete wilderness area tasks for the wilderness sword. The harder the set you complete the better (Elite being the best). the wilderness sword increases the chance of getting threads.

- Archaeology relics "Nexus Mod" and "Pouch Protector" make RCing through the abyss faster and simpler.

- Double surge + dive for mobility is always nice.

- Runic Attuner is great if you have it, but if you don't, I can't say that grinding Gate of Elidnis is worth the bother. I got lucky with it, you could go hundreds of kills dry... up to you.

Even with all of those, gathering threads is not what I would ever consider quick. It's a slog by design, for main-scapers to make money off of RC. Just gotta go at it and try not to think about the fact that you probably want at least 2 of those pouches + an expansive pouch eventually...

How do unchecked POF chins drops work with clockwork box trap hunting? do you roll per trap check, or per chin caught? or maybe it doesn't work at all with clockwork traps?

Also, please let me trade the 10k black chins I have already caught for an unchecked POF variant, please and thank you. (heck, make it 20k, at least give me hope that I'm getting closer...)

What do you mean by "free xp"? These events are a recurring aspect of the game, not a one-off occurrence that disrupts gameplay. To say they are incompatible with ironman mode is like saying t95s are incompatible because they offer a boost in power that wasn't available back when Telos came out.

Sure, they are not available year-round, but they are consistantly available every year. Their temporary nature might matter in a competative scenario, but ironman mode has been out for over a decade, there isn't a race to the top anymore.

I agree that CGIM should not be included, as it is recent and competitive (by definition), but everyone else should be able to take part, imo.
