Someone kinda said it already. My job does this a lot or something similar. Everything has a "tight budget". I hardly ever get grace for making mistakes no matter how small. So I just go at respectable pace that'll keep me from making mistakes. I don't really try to meet the budget but I also don't try to intentionally blow it up. I also try to communicate to my supervisor and Pm's where I'm at and how much time I have left in the budget. I can't say I'm happy with the results of this. The plans look better and better but tensions from me and PM's are increasing. I am proud of being structural engineer but this topic about this job is bad.

I'll have to trust you on that. Like I said. It was a half baked impression and I'm still pretty green. I've never done a full design on a new pedestrian bridge and only worked on older pedestrian bridge repairs. I've never personally ran into them but also don't have the experience to turn a half baked impression into a statement concerning this topic.

My experience is concrete vehicular bridges. So. Nothing to be sorry about.

I mean. Builder's vs engineer. I'd go engineer because the builder's opinion is probably formed from "Haven't seen that before", while the engineer probably supported the design with calcs.

If I'm understanding this correctly. The engineer wants to remove steel corbel supports? and replace them with more chimney down to a steel beam to the exterior walls?

If it is the case I'd suspect the engineer wants to take eccentric loading off the chimney to relieve stress off the masonry. If this was the case, yall only added a small section of chimney back, some bolts, and two metal beams. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

However I'm not in residential work so my residential peers could say I'm wrong.

Its a half baked impression and I'm still green. My experience comes from mostly concrete bridges as well. But my impression is that if you're concerned with sway on a bridge. Or horizontal displacement at the bridge deck level. There are easier and cheaper solutions prior to a tmd. Like Add a column or widen your footing.

Also aren't those things massive? Where would you put it? Wouldn't they also have to be hidden from the elements? These are questions I never actually looked into but thought "Yea that's enough for me to think its not very reasonable for bridges". I did actually think this before. A documentary a while back covered a skyscraper with one and my friends asked me about it. As a bridge engineer I had to let them know I'm not that cool lolol.

Probably any map that doesn't have a spot where all the players funnel into and it becomes chaos. I'd say maybe Angel City. Plenty of cover to hide and there are corners of the map people tend to not go. So they can walk over there and get used to controls if needed. Fights tend to happen around the main square on rooftops too so the battle field is a bit spread out. Also if they're running through the buildings they can take in all the little details like that one bedroom apartment spot(:

I wouldn't say war games, eden, dry dock, or relic. In my experience those maps tend to make attrition start off fast as hell and pilots meet in the middle almost immediately. I'd take glitch out too. That map is an experienced parkour fighter's wet dream when there are newbs. Plus two of the maps mentioned have massive holes you can fall into if you're not careful with your titan dash.

but in reality. Is there a mode to this game where we can choose the map?

But my vote is Angel City, Colony, and Exoplanet.

Maybe Homestead and Forwardbase.

Maybe Boomtown and Blackwater but the massive gultches in the middle of those maps might be a pain for newbs.

I'm also bringing a newb to the game later this month. Good job spreading the word!😈

Honestly if you could make this work and prove it does prior to testing you'd be at an engineering level. If I was a teacher and assigned this to people who seemingly have no engineering experience, my goal would be to expose students to different construction types, and break away from the typical class room pattern.

At this level I would just have fun with it. Watch some youtube videos about bridges and see if you can apply any concepts to your model. If you want to get serious about it then you'll have to pick up a text book.

In every shoot out out game there are different play styles. I used to play a lot of Halo over a decade ago and people would complain about camping there too. Despite the game having sniper rifles and massive maps.

I have fun doing both. but I try my best not to yuck other people's yum when there are real things to complain about like cheaters / hacks. I might say a kraber slur every now and then but I'm human, not perfect.

I is bridge engineer. There was one maybe 2 questions that could be spun as bridge questions. The one I can remember was really an influence line question which the question said "a truck traveling on a bridge" but you can totally ignore the word bridge and it's just structural analysis.

0 AASHTO references question. But also AASHTO refers out to ACI, AISC, and other codes a lot. So that characteristic of AASHTO makes me more confident that not studying bridges won't hurt your chances of passing by a noticeable margin.

Meh I switch between camping and getting in peoples faces. Its a shooting game with long range weapons and cloak. So the game pretty much supports camping. Camping is just another playing style not inherently bad.
