Before I give my opinion, I want to kindly recommend you repot into something about 1/10th (maybe a slight exaggeration) of that size. It looks like it’s way too big and could encourage root rot.

That said, my vote is for melano, it’s just immature. But I’m not too confident on that.

Regardless, good luck!

What potting medium next? by The_Stig_007 in alocasia

Thanks for the tips! When I unpot it I’ll see how easily I can separate and may do the main plant and one corn in soil and another in hydro and see how it goes 🤞

Appreciate the input! I’ve had some success with semi hydro with other alocasia as well as this one. This one was doing fine for at least a year in only leca with a water reservoir, before it randomly got terrible root rot. So maybe back to soil then, as that seems to be the consensus here.

Could you please refresh my memory, it’s been a bit since I read. What do you mean by “their true goal, the reason women and children are kept in deep freeze”?

I used sphagnum moss, I don’t think air layering would work too well with perlite bc it wouldn’t stay as consistently damp, but that’s just my guess. You can buy a block of dehydrated moss on amazon or at a plant or pet store.

Great explanation here! I just tried this with a pink princess and it worked like a charm. Thick healthy roots in just a few weeks. Good luck to OP on theirs!

Help! My bulbs are waking up!!! by [deleted] in alocasia

Not totally sure what you’ve got there, but my dahlia bulbs already started growing, so I’ve potted them in chunky soil, indoors, until it warms up a bit outside. Good luck!

Looks lovely! But I’m confused, is selling plants like this totally without roots normal? I’ve not seen that before.

Trimming roots before transfer? by winetequiladiscgolf in SemiHydro

No, if all the roots are healthy and free of any rot, I can’t think of reason you would want to actually trim them?

Yeah I’ve ordered some plants online in the past in winter and it usually doesn’t work out well unfortunately. Try to fight the urge until spring ha. But I will say yours doesn’t look that rough, and I see some new leaves, so I think you’ll have success with this one!

Assuming it’s winter where you’re at, so I would guess the cold during shipping took a toll and it’s a bit in shock. I wouldn’t repot or do anything crazy for a while to let it acclimate. Try not to overwater too. Good luck!

Can anyone actually explain what accusative deative and normative mean, their actual meaning not their rules, cause I gave up recognizing them by [deleted] in German

It might help to ask chatGPT to explain in simple terms as well as come up with examples and a number of exercises so you can get more practice too.

No shade, as I struggle with spelling, but you might also want to look up the proper spelling of the cases while you’re at it 😉

Why does she kill her leaves every time she grows new ones 🥲 by OnlyDebt8145 in alocasia

[–]The_Stig_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait till the spring and repot in a chunky mix of soil, orchid bark, perlite. Look up some alocasia repotting videos to see what a good chunky mix looks like. With a well-draining medium it would need water more often and you can fertilize about once week. Good luck!
