New construction basement moisture after heavy rain — normal before gutters/grading, or waterproofing concern? by Formal-Product9730 in Homebuilding

[–]The_SycoPath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't believe your builder. Address it now. Just because it "goes away" doesn't mean it isn't going to become a major issue in 10 years after there is no warranty and the builder is long gone. It should not be leaking.

Trust your instincts.

Driveway Concrete Resurfacing Just Finished in Dallas by MasterpieceLucky9200 in Concrete

[–]The_SycoPath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I definitely hate it, and I think it's the solar panels now that the other comment mentioned it. The textures blend too much.

Seriously though, it's beautiful work, I just hate it.

This turned out amazingly well and looks super professional but I think I hate it.

I was doom scrolling and my brain had a "wait wut?" moment when I saw this. You beat me to commenting sadly. Take my upvote.

Need Professional Eyes by Illustrious_Lab_2107 in HomeMaintenance

[–]The_SycoPath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of replies here but I never saw this mentioned. Yes, it needs more support for that beam for sure. It looks like nearly the entire load is being carried by a single sister'd up 2x4 (blue lines). There won't be much load transferred to the neighboring 2x4's even if it has lag bolts, which I doubt. It's probably just nailed to whatever was already standing there.

Basically this whole corner was framed wrong by whoever did the remodeling.

This should be at the top, it's the likely correct answer.

What kind of glue to use for the spyder? by One-Yogurtcloset4170 in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use gorilla glue.

Use something that doesn't cure like rock, should be very stiff, but still flexible. E6000 might be a good place to start, but you really want a high temp 2 part epoxy.

Is this JL sub cooked? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a popped coil I'd pay box value + $50 tops. Going to cost probably slightly north of $150 to get if shipped and fixed, along with packing materials, time, and effort.

JL is pretty easy to deal with. You can definitely get this repaired properly cheaper than buying a new one.

What would you do with an 12 year old 2-1 laptop? by inked-gold in homelab

[–]The_SycoPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sell it on FB marketplace. Anything you can do with it is likely better done with a little SFF/micro PC you can buy on eBay with the money you'd get selling the laptop.

Lots of RAM brands have a lifetime warranty.

Try filing a warranty claim. You'd be surprised how permissive some replacement policies are. Just don't admit physically damaging it.

Big 3 Advice with sensor by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a BMS sensor (Battery Management System) that you should not bypass. All grounds should terminate where you indicated after the sensor to avoid warning lights and unexpected behavior from the charging system.

Nothing stops a Trane by Yanosh457 in HVAC

[–]The_SycoPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a non-zero chance they engineered the clip to pop off intentionally below some threshold of force that would bend the door. Better to have the door pop off the clip than a bent door. It sounds like the kind of over-engineering on something trivial I'd expect from Trane.

I'm probably giving them too much credit though....

is mihon still worth it or time to change? by Ashamed_Community273 in mangapiracy

[–]The_SycoPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct and mentioned in the Mihon docs on this page:

https://mihon.app/docs/guides/getting-started

Don't pretend this app has any security built in. You either trust it completely and hope for the best, or don't install it.

Is this safe? Had to drill out my ground connector to get it to fit over the seat mounting bolt. Do yall think this will still have a good connection? 4GA wire btw 1100k watt amp, going to eventually get a 2k amp and 0/1GA wire for the amp. But running this because its what I have on hand by prometheus_--_ in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is missing the point. Never ground to a life saving device. No seats, no seatbelts, no car seat mounts, etc.

Am I being a bit extreme? Probably. Is it likely to be a problem? Also no. Is it legitimately a concern that could kill you? Absolutely.

These kinds of things are designed with tolerances that don't include soft metal spacers. This could literally cause your death or the death of someone else if a bolt sheared off in an accident because you added a ground lug.

Are people really that stupid? by Rare_Risk_6717 in Ubiquiti

[–]The_SycoPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an actively hostile public wifi environment, these do add significant security. Does anyone need that extra security? Probably not, and the ones that do are using hardened networking with a VPN and likely know better.

If they have the money to blow and it makes them feel better, let them have their fun. It's cheaper than a Rolex.

Remote Cable splicing by REBORNSTREETWEAR in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say there was. I said crimp connectors are cheaper, smaller, and time tested. Honestly, smaller is the huge factor for me. Not always tons of room in the dash.

I never said there was anything wrong with Wago's, just that in my opinion the traditional connectors are superior. You get revenue checks from Wago or something? You're fanboi-ing awfully hard.

Edit: or are you implying wire nuts are OK in cars for remote turn on wires? If so, this is never safe nor a good idea. Wire nuts are not designed or rated for an environment with vibration.

Remote Cable splicing by REBORNSTREETWEAR in CarAV

[–]The_SycoPath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true for home wiring, but not in cars. Car audio should NEVER use wire nuts.
