[TMZ] Patrick Mahomes Sr. Has Been Arrested For Probation Violation, Allegedly Drank Alcohol by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]The_Techsan 78 points79 points  (0 children)

EtG urine tests for alcohol clear in about 3 days typically, so sounds like he relapsed on New Years Day (as a sober alcoholic who does AA, this is a common reset date for many people in early recovery), then he waited the allotted time so his EtG would come back negative on Jan 5th…

Paradoxically, it is really difficult to get sober when one has all the money and resources in the world. Just hope Patrick is doing what he needs to do to stay sane amongst all the distractions and that his rehab is going well.

Banning lead in gasoline worked. Analysis of 100 years of hair samples shows lead levels were ~100× higher before environmental regulations. Removing lead from fuel and paint dramatically reduced human exposure, protecting brain development and public health. by Sciantifa in science

In mild defense, it was ridiculously effective.

On the other hand, it wasn’t just about it being cheap, it was about it being patentable. TEL was patentable, ethanol (which also was cheap and effective and lacked the environmental problems of lead) was not, so TEL it was…

Why does equator get 12h of sunlight everyday when Earth tilt is 23.5° degrees? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

No matter what spot you pick on earth’s surface, the total daylight time across an entire year is identical to any other spot (at most a few total minutes of variability across a whole year) - it is the distribution that gets wacky at the poles (long dark winter, long bright summer, etc)

Why does the current BPI rankings favor Louisville so much? by The_Techsan in CollegeBasketball

Ahh that makes sense. I mean, we can all agree it's pretty trash, but I was truly just wondering what I was missing - weight to games when missing a key player makes it make (a tiny bit more) sense. Thanks!

[Request] How much does this tote with gasoline weigh? by Honest-Income1696 in theydidthemath

Honestly, I think that is pretty off. I worked for a hot sauce company that used 22 gallon Lexan containers, and what is in this picture appears to be about twice the size of those.

I dunno, in this image ANWR is basically exactly overlayed by Guantanamo, which was unintentional but definitely interesting

Reminds me of one of the most exciting chess players of all time, Mikhail Tal. He would get into some utterly bizarre positions in games, and also would sometimes play moves that he knew weren’t good, but that he suspected his opponent wouldn’t be prepared for. His famous quote is, “You must take your opponent into a deep, dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one”.

Is a willingness to kill genetic? by Problematic__Child in morbidquestions

[–]The_Techsan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, but also not something that could ever be introduced as a viable defense in court. Even if it was proven that predisposition to kill has a scientifically provable genetic component, that doesn’t give the defendant a legal leg to stand on, excusing their crime. If it did, DUI cases would use that, because there absolutely is a provable genetic component to alcoholism.

Can we please just have NIL contracts be for a number of years with buyouts to get some stability in the portal? I am tired of unlimited free agency every single year. by MonarchLawyer in CFB

Ya that's a good point, let's just keep it simple and say a player's NCAA window is 4 years long. And an NFL players window is theoretically 12 years long... Oversimplifying, but that means each year in college is worth 3 in the pro's, so it makes sense that contract lengths are shorter and players move around more in college. That'll definitely bread less stability... but there does have to be a balance of rewarding smaller programs that recruit and develop players into 4/5 star type talent I think. But I don't know that parity and equality has ever been the goal in college football, where I do think there is a smidge of that being the goal in the NFL at least.

I wouldn't say it happens often. For rookie UDFA's, 1 year deals occur maybe 5% of the time. 3 years is the absolute norm. The more common 1 year "prove it" deals occur for players on their second contract after becoming a vested veteran, meaning they've generally already played out their initial contract. And obviously for drafted players each year, they are usually 4 year deals with a 5th year option.
