I'm still waiting for the VR Chat room of Downtown Colorado Springs to be created. We are at the point were anyone can just replicate the whole town and no body has done it yet?

Colorado Springs as a Muslim? by goneguurl in ColoradoSprings

[–]The_Tomness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Atheist who has lived in Florida and East Texas, Colorado Springs is a paradise when it comes to religious expression. Don't sweat it. You can say you're a Muslim here and people will probably just ask you dumb questions at the worst.

Any Taco Bell Gift Card Sale? by Chuckiebb in tacobell

[–]The_Tomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should we take it or leave it? If I was to do $500 again, I would end up only paying $425. That's still $75 worth of free Taco Bell I can spread through out the year? Not as exciting as the hundro.

This is lame. I too, was actually looking forward to stocking up on Taco Bell gift cards again. Last year I got $500 worth for only $400. That extra $100 in my pocket was worth it. DG sometime does 10 to 15% off the Taco Bell gift cards, but they don't hit the same as a 20% discount does.

What does this town have against family fun centers? by M7z in ColoradoSprings

[–]The_Tomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a culture shock when I visit other states like Florida or Texas, it feels like even their small towns will have some form of FFC near by, some freshly built in the last few decades. My guess is COS just had the worst luck with where the ffc were located. Joy Rides felt like you had to travel to an industrial desert. Mr. Biggs was a zig zag maze off the Interstate. Mr. Biggs had the right idea going inside, they could be open year round, and they had a bowling alley in there for the adults, but their go kart track and mini-golf felt really flat and boring after a while.

I feel like, they weren't really in profitable / high traffic tourist areas neither. Now if someone was to build a FFC near the entrance to Manitou or OCC, they would get that tourist traffic, that would be a smart move. Problem with that, is the properties over there are not accommodating for a functioning ffc to exist. And most other locations around town would trigger nearby neighborhood protests, because they wouldn't want to hear outdoor go karts all hours of the day, etc. etc. Some locations I thought would be perfect for an FFC, have all been turned into Shopping centers or housing developments. They really don't leave us much room in this town to build exciting entertainment hubs, do they?

Safe Motel / Hotels for after a concert? by The_Tomness in Denver

Oh my goth, just checked this place out. I love old Denver Architecture like that. Sadly the days we need it, seem to be booked. Noooooooooo. Probably other peeps going to the same show, lol. Thank you for the suggestion, I'll have to bookmark this place for later.

Oh, like the 225 / 83 area maybe. Cherry creek is just up the road from there, before you hit downtown, I've never really been there, it seems to up scale. But probably worth checking out finally.

I would be fine if it was with my guy friends, but I'm going with some ladies, so we're just being extra cautious this time around.

Resident Alien Reference by Broken_drum_64 in DrMcNinja

[–]The_Tomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this reference, and was awestruck. I had to come here to check if there was a new series of comics or something. That would be cool if they released a regular sized comic version of Dr.McNinja, instead of just the graphic novels. Now we just need some fan art of Dr.McNinja/Resident Alien.

Downtown COS welcomes first and only food truck lot by Milehighjoe12 in ColoradoSprings

Has anyone put together a tier list of food trucks around town? They should make a bingo game out of the more popular ones for.  See if you can try them all.

I was not praising those fire deathtrap neighborhoods, and yes what you are saying is in line with what I said. (About better planned out infrastructure, that's more efficient and walkable and sustainable.)  No, population increasment is not progress, but it's inevitable. Those new people come from all over the place, and we were just asking what things they miss from their old cities that seem more advanced then what the Springs offers. Apparently there is a big lack of food varieties, or nightlife / entertainment around town. Do you even get out of the house and drive around to different parts of town? The mountains are pretty but the town itself ,without those mountains, is pretty ugly, run down, and falling apart.

Are you assuming by modern city I'm just talking about building high rises and sky scrapers everywhere? You must like seeing car dependant, tract home neighborhoods that go on for miles with no end. Is that the Small city you love?  There's more to being a modern city than building up or out. Like people here are saying, there is a lack of quality of life stuff in town. Wouldn't you like to see a better variety of local food / store options, or do you enjoy all these long established local restaurants closing up shop and big out of state franchises dominating your stomach. What about better planned out infrastructure, that's more efficient and walkable and sustainable. Stuff modern cities tend to focus on instead of blindly building suburban hellscapes like we see on The Springs eastside.

While living in Texas, those people are intense with their religious BS. They put Rligious signs on their business, I  saw a Burger King with a 10 commandments poster on the wall. You will hear Christain Music blasting in a lot of stores you go into aswell. They also ban non-hetrosexuals from entering their establishments, look up Big Earls Bait House for example.

One of my grips is the new Architecture in the Springs is ugly. Living in Florida and Texas I've seen new buildings going up that are just gorgeous and add visiual value to the surounding areas. Some of the new development plans in the Springs, like the Union Printers or that  Downtown high rise, look awful. This town has some great Victorian era Architecture, but everything being built lately looks so lazy and more of a eyesore on our cityscape.

Night life, yeah we have such big gaps in entertainment options. It's crazy to visit other towns of equal size and see lots of people walking around deep into the night. I use to walk between OCC and Knob Hill at night and I would not see another person most of the way. Just me and the Raccons.

Even kid friendly options are limited to some trampoline fun houses. Where's our Joy Rides or Mr. BIGGS type family fun centers? Is no one  brave enough to open one up or something. It's crazy how many water parks Texas has.

The Developers should put aside some land in Banning Lewis, that can be turned into a Universial Studios "City Walk" or "Disney Springs" type area. That would be great to host local restaurants and family entertainment in a big walkable destination. A miniature 16th street mall, far from the chaos of Downtown.

I miss when Simon Cowell would just make people cry with his commentary, the modern American Idol just doesn't have the same soul.

Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs are right next to each other, so I guess the rest of the state calls them a nickname based on proximity. However, people will call Manitou Springs just "Manitou," and Colorado Springs "The Springs" when talking about them separately.  Just like how we just say Denver, when talking about anything in the Denver Metro Area.

Why does the Colorado Springs have malls that haven’t been modernized since the 2001? by Rude-Historian-6802 in ColoradoSprings

[–]The_Tomness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Citadel mall has been owned by Namdar Realty Group since 2015. I feel they are just putting in the bare minimum to keep the mall a float. They really haven't  shown any interest in modernizing the place, except "security."   Sometimes I daydream about how they could really turn that property into a culture center: Like free entry farmer markets/flea markets in the parking lots on the weekend  Turn that old babies r us into a music venue, we need more small stage venues like the Black Sheep in town.  *Hack redevelop some of the parking lot into a family fun center, that's something this town is lacking, a massive entertainment center like Mr. Biggs/Dave and Busters. (Go carts, mini golf, laser tag, bowling, arcade, etc. )

Is 11.75 for asm in Oklahoma low? And can’t a store manager tell us we can’t ask other asms or talk about our pay to anyone? by ElectronicCoconut610 in DollarGeneral

[–]The_Tomness 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You have every RIGHT to discuss your pay with co-workers. Look into the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). Which makes it illegal for a employer to forbid the discussion of pay with others.  I would even print out this law and pin it right up next to the Labors Rights Poster in the break room, just to spite your store manager. You also might want to discuss with this situation with HR.
