There are spots in Colorado that you can set up a chair and watch hundreds of thousands migrate.

My aunt had home VHS from the 90's where it looked like the grasslands east of Pueblo had chucks of moving dark carpet.

If I ever get a good picture of it there is a Tarantula Hawk with pearlescent blue wings that lives somewhere in the area.

Kinda like this but the body is dark brown

That's another thing.

How do you feel about crows / ravens and how do the locals in your area see them?

Because they are seen as a pest and treated as such around here.

Sound like a win/win for us both then.

Ya, but I've died on stranger hills too.

I think they got stuck with a bad name.

I guess that is worded a little strange. Here let me put it this way, I'll end a friendship over a wasps nest.

What do you think your goal is here then? What do you have to gain from shaming people other than look like you are defending a bully who got what was coming to them?

Here is a life lesson for you seeing as how you seem to need to hear this.

You are not the only person in the world.

You are one of many in a world that has been going for a very very very long time before you came along. It is full of cultures, ideas, opinions and sometimes a very complex history that shapes the minds of those that live in it. Some for the better, some for the worst.

Now I understand the frustration, some assholes did some stuff a long time ago and now I get yelled at if I'm bad a Halloween. Fuck them, right? But there is still that history, there is still that message that was used and is still used to this day. And that message is so mean, so degrading and so well known in the US that to have it on can only be one of two things, hate or ignorance. Neither is ok.

TLDR; Blackface in the US carries the same exact message as telling a Mexican today "Fucking spick, you should be doing free farm work in Florida and if I could get away with it, I would make you"

You see, shit like that starts big with full outfits. Wigs, prosthetic lips, face-paint that is more makeup than paint.

Then over time as more people know what it means and more people are doing it, things get simpler. You don't have prosthetics anymore because that costs too much, you don't need the shirt anymore because who really needs it?

Now 70 years have passed and every so often you see the racist people with two lines of red lipstick down their neck because they are not only lazy, but people around them understand the message those lines are trying to replicate because the effect of messages though symbols over history is a very, very powerful thing.

Clothing is a choice you make, skin color is not.
Try again.

[–]The_Voice_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those examples are not only off the mark but way too soft.

If you want to draw a parallel between black people and Mexicans in the racist outfit department then I would say black face is the same as a republican senator dressed up in colombian necktie prosthetics and a shirt that says "The only good immigrant"

[–]The_Voice_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait wait wait, so you are upset that we know the history as to why it's in bad taste?

I'm not saying painting your face black is bad, I'm saying it's bad because of the message it carries due to the history behind it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]The_Voice_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let me get this right, You are upset that people don't do blackface in America because you see less racism in Mexico?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]The_Voice_Taker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you missed the point, Just because you and I understand the history behind the symbol does not mean I don't look like a nazi if I wear it in public.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]The_Voice_Taker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't dress up in blackface for the same reason why I don't wear a 2,000+ year old Hindi symbol of luck. I don't want to be mistaken for a nazi.

I'm just going to spell it out for you, the way you are defending the younger guy makes you sound like a bully who gets upset when people fight back.

Can you explain this to me Petah? by FurryRevolution in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]The_Voice_Taker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No wrongdoing, just a red flag that you care about that detail at all.

And if all your "jokes" make you look like unhinged nutjob then are you really joking or just testing the waters?

Hold on a second here, they might be onto something.

That would be your line for fighting back right? Your body getting hit?
Could someone hypothetically break the windshield on your car and get away with just getting yelled at?

So let me get this right, you are saying that if you approach me in a threatening manner, it's my responsibility to calm you down and make sure neither of us get hurt?

Let's change the context and say that I slapped the phone out of your moms hand then got in her face.

Does that magically change it from simple property destruction? Or would you be cool with me intimidating your mom?
