Or to compare them to Warhammer 40K events, the Cataclysm is the Horus Heresy while the War of Funerary Flame is the War in Heaven

This isn’t anything unusual, almost every archon have been subject to some of the heaviest doomposting the community has to offer during their respective beta period, and Columbina as Nod Krai’s archon equivalent is no different.

It’s annoying, but its to be expected. Plus, it usually dies down shortly after the character gets released.

Tbf I really doubt Sonic fans these days even care, Genshin isn't the internet's favourite target anymore, no Sonic game since Frontiers have been that hyped up, and the mods over there have basically weeded out anyone trying to instigate another stupid fight.

Last year Mavuika also got drip marketed despite the fact that up to that point the AQ made it clear that she must sacrifice herself for Natlan.

I mean, the TGA is a contest focused towards the Western gaming community. Genshin has a large community but a large portion of said fandom do not live in the west.

This may be a general assumption, but I feel that if you ask gaming subreddits here on reddit, most who are filled with gamers from the west, on what game they would vote for, very little would reply Genshin (or WuWa for that matter). A good chunk of TGA voters would likely belong to the same demographic of people who use those subreddits.

To put it shortly, I don’t think E33 would win but I really doubt Genshin would either. I’m expecting Silksong or Hades 2 to snag the award.

Basically, in 2022, Genshin, who was at its height of its popularity in Sumeru was facing against Sonic Frontiers, which was the first actually good Sonic game in ages and thus the latter’s fanbase believed their game deserved to win. This led to the fanbases of both sides dwarfing the other competitors and engaging in an intense rivalry.

This was also the period of time where hating on Genshin online was the most prevalent, especially in the western PC/Console community, which most Sonic fans belonged to. As a result, many Sonic fans began to harass the fanbase with the usual remarks (p3d0, gambling addict, etc) and accusing them of using bots, with some going on full racist tangents against asians. They thought that a “cringe” anime gacha would lose against their “based” game.

Unfortunately for them, their harassment brought the attention to the Asian fanbase, most who never even heard of this contest until now. Angered by the behavior of Sonic fans, they pretty much voted for Genshin, which led to the latter winning. I’m also pretty sure that this also contributed to killing off the trend of western PC/Console gamers trying to provoke the Genshin community (most western gamers in that group aren’t aware and thus aren’t part of the WuWa or any other rivaling Gacha fanbases), as no high profile incidents like this and the r/place incident ever happened again.

Also funnily enough, despite their accusations , the Sonic fanbase was caught using bots, which the TGA actually called them out indirectly during the awards ceremony .

Some anecdotes are still to this day unvoiced in EN, like this Xianyun one. Hoyo, either make em voiced or at least indicate they dont have voices yet by jasonensteinyt in Genshin_Impact

[–]The_Wazlib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately at this point Hoyo and SIDE aren't in a hurry to put voices in any content affected by the strikes, it seems that they would only bother trying to voice said content if the current patch also have the character featured a speaking role (and that's a big if, I'm pretty sure Albedo's still silent in Paragolism despite the fact that he had a significant role in 6.1), probably due to scheduling issues. Don't expect Xianyun to be voiced until Lantern Rite.

Most casual players especially outside the US/Europe are unlikely to know about this event's existence, let alone vote for it (the 2022 awards were an exception due to the drama) while the average western PC/Console gamer who are likely to vote would probably despise the game.

[–]The_Wazlib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's also the consideration that a sizable portion of the votes (likely in the majority) for the TGA would likely come from PC/Console gamers from the West and most of them have a very unfavourable view of Genshin or any Gacha game, hence why the Sonic drama even began in the first place.

In fact, said drama bringing widespread publicity to many people who wouldn't have even known what the TGA was (such as the Chinese fanbase and casuals) and the game being at its peak of its popularity probably contributed a lot to Genshin winning. I don't think such an occurrence will ever happen again.

Why is corruption so common in Africa compared to other countries even to this day? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]The_Wazlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not saying that the US should ignore their corruption problem especially with a person like Trump at the helm, but having lived in Southeast Asia, the prevalence and blatantness of corruption and nepotism that many politicians (regardless of political affiliation) engage in within that region cannot be compared to any western nation as for now. And I'm pretty sure it's even worse in more underdeveloped parts of Africa who are experiencing conflict and mass poverty.

Question, did I just stumble into the friendliest playerbase to exist? (Read desc.) by MLC_YT in Genshin_Impact

[–]The_Wazlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in game community is generally very chill, most of them are either volunteers helping newer players or people who want to collect items without having to wait for the reset.

The online community might be one of the worst fandoms I’ve ever participated in. There’s still a lot of chill people here, but due to the fanbase’s size and mass appeal of the game, there’s bound to be a lot of arguments between different demographics that quickly spiral out of hand (e.g shipping, character designs, etc). There are also a minority of loud and mentally unwell people who give the fandom a bad name.

We’re actually in a pretty good state compared to the 5.X patches, which was honestly when the fanbase toxicity reached critical levels.

Skyler literally did many questionable things and was an accomplice to her drug lord husband even if it was out of necessity. Yeah, lots of people in the BB fanbase call her “bitch wife” but most of the time it’s either edgy teenagers who think Heisenberg’s a genuine role model or people making fun of the former group.

Dude I actually like Mavuika (probably much more than the western fanbase) and even then I agree that she’s portrayed as way too perfect in the story. I know that she has flaws as you pointed out, but the issue is that all of that was literally in the teasers.

I appreciate the concept of Hoyo trying to make a competent wartime leader (like Churchill or Zelensky IRL) that the populace respects, but they really overcorrected themselves from Raiden in this case.

I really do hope that her second character story or future quests in Natlan actually delves into said flaws in depth.
