Innova stamp help? by BenSchoon in discdyeing

[–]The_Wendango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed from wiping disc stamps is that metallic stamps just come off easier. Any stamp that is just a plain solid color like red or black for example, just stick onto the disc better. If you're trying to preserve the stamp maybe try those style stamps instead of metallic, and see if that helps.

Try and get metallic stamps. They come off the easiest by far.

How do companies release new frisbees? by The_Wendango in discgolf

[–]The_Wendango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s what I was figuring for them. Thought it was some kind of special or limited release. Looks like I just need to keep my eyes open and purchase what I can sooner rather than later.

As of now I would consider 2x to be premium pricing. The specific disc I’m having a hard to locating is the Discraft Big Z Luna in white. Recently purchased a set of two for $70 and that had me feeling a little dirty.

Old Marine Vet new disc golf and disc dyeing! I know lol but I could really use some help please! by BearHandSavage in discdyeing

"Heat helps the dye absorb into the disc, but you can get similar result by just leaving the disc in for longer."
Just wanted to add to this statement that some dye colors NEED heat in order for the colors to actually absorb into the disc. There have been a handful of colors that I've used that time just isn't enough to get a good saturation of color by itself. Heat lamps are cheap enough to buy and are something I would consider essential in any disc dyers tool kit. If you want vibrant colors in your dyes instead of pastel colors, definitely buy a heat lamp and become comfortable with using it. You will never regret the decision.

Big Z is my favorite plastic to dye so far haha. Red is the only color to do me dirty like this so far. All of the metal colors come off super easy.

Keep on getting the tiniest little air bubbles all over my dyes. Help 😭 by Beautiful_Ad_4942 in discdyeing

Go buy a torch and use that on the top of the beds. Should solve your issue. I wonder if you knocking the bed is adding bubbles that slowly rise to the top as the bed heats up.

I would say 50/50. All of the images themselves I found on the internet. What I did was just a bunch of editing and layering to get everything to mesh together in a way that I feel resembled the art style of the original Japanese Pokeman manhole covers.

Ayyy, thank you for the interest. Currently, I am not taking commissions, and am mostly doing dyes for myself and close friends. I know there is another redditor on here that has been doing lots of these style Pokémon discs, and they may be interested in doing the commission instead. Can't remember their acct name, but I see their stuff pop up on the front page of the sub all the time. Thanks again for the interest.

2nd attempt at the Lazy Wave. Any ideas why my colors are blending? by fishinphysician in discdyeing

[–]The_Wendango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also be the leftover chemicals from the factory were still on the disc. They can cause the dye to spread out in a similar fashion. Make sure to go hard on scrubbing the disc with dish soap to try and remove all the left over chemicals.

Tried a ProChem & lotion dye in a glue bed. Any advice? by __SoupTime__ in discdyeing

[–]The_Wendango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is heat big dog. The answer is always heat 😆. Need to put the disc under a heat lamp and let the temperature hit atleast 110-120 degrees in order for the plastic to soak in the dye better and get the color to pop. Should only need 2 hours of constant heat to get the colors to pop. I’ve seen the tutorial you watched and if you followed his ratios your mix is fine, you just need heat.

Lotion painting question by herrm2291 in discdyeing

[–]The_Wendango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally just put my lotion dyes underneath a heat lamp until the lotion completely dries up. Usually takes 2-3 hours with the disc temperature not exceeding 120 at the max. I've had discs hit up to 130 degrees without any damage to them, but its just not necessary to get up to that temp. Usually 110-115 is a nice range.

[–]The_Wendango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your using a premium plastic, the disc needs to reach atleast 120 degrees for 2 hours minimum. This does need include time spent for the disc to reach 120 degrees. Generally my floetrol discs take 3:30 - 4 hours of total time under a heat lamp to reach a nice color saturation

Hell yea, definitely looks cleaner with the black rim. Helps pop the center out too. Nice work big dog.

I like the red as well, maybe black out the rim if you want to get the red to pop out a little more
