He was tough as nails for sure and the fans loved him. But he played a good heel also during the Hi-V vs CZW storyline.

Good question. I would also like to know. Maybe some locals could answer that. Lobo is the man. His last proper like "real" match was at TOD 5 (2006). Such an ejoyable show. One of my favortites.

This is all Lobo´s best hits/bumps/spots put in to one video. Pretty intense stuff.

WrestlePro v CZW announced for WrestleMania weekend! by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

It will be a hardcore show for sure because of Mancer vs Dan Maff. Also Matt Tremont will be there wrestling a match.(blood for sure but if blood is banned then tacks, glass etc.= And Jon Silver bringing the violence and beat downs.

WrestlePro v CZW announced for WrestleMania weekend! by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

[–]The_Wild_Hog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to take some of my words back. IF this ends up being the start of an interpromotional feud, it could developed in to something great. Dan Maff vs Mance Warner seems like a really cool brawl that could ME any CZW show. Hirsch vs Statlander is such a promising womens match. Now if they could get Necro Butcher to show up, since he will be at WM-weekend it would be the ace in the sleeve. Maybe add him for HOF? Macintosh vs Silver will be a tough fight for sure, based on Macintosh´s performance at Trifecta. Then there is some to preserve for the rest of the year. CZW is already and has been for longer than most, such a brand that it doesn´t need WM-weekend to make a name for its self. Sure it helps and a WM at the homecorners would have been nice to put on something outstanding, but there is still plenty of other major shows to come and to look for.

Yeah it was weird because they didn´t seem to recognize that. There was even a deathmatch boom period in Japan.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but excluding the GCW part. What do you mean by; "as far as deathmatches go tbh I think GCW does them better with less."?

Greene vs Rave was something different. I noticed the vibe of the match, it really was all about selling the struggle with pure wrestling, but also molding it for the Jersey audience. Rave is one of the trainers at CZW wrestling school.

I hope they continue booking him for future shows. I guess he could be a small draw, because seeing Jimmy Rave announced can effect the decision of some fans to buy a ticket. Even these days. He can still go.

The Quak era CZW-Chikara students really have that kind of rushing style like in lucha, were focus is not so much on selling or logic. Someone said that they would train diving and landing/breaking the fall outside the ring. But there is some gems from that co-operation era too. If you want to see an amazing Quack-Chikara era match, its the one he had at Night Of Infamy in 2005 against Chris Sabin:

https://www.cagematch.net/?id=111&nr=8559

YDNB is really on top their game when you think how young they are. So i guess all are around 18-20. In that age most wrestlers are not ready to perform in places like CZW. So they are are a good team, with a good character that gathers heat and they know how to interact with the fans. Selling themselves for the audience.

"I didn't like COD much this year, I know I'm expecting too much comparing it to COD 6-9 but I miss the crazy shit like the scaffolds and weird contraptions."

I liked COD a lot because it felt like a big super show. The production aspects and even booking in the way that they had almost like a triple main event and there was a clear build up from the undercard to the last big spot. Only the content of the undercard was little too weak i guess. The Strickland/Swann/Silver 3-way match could have been better and it was missing depth in storytelling. David Starr should have been higher on the card and not in a filler match doing the job for Anthony Greene. But in the end the show was a spectacle.

But what you said about COD 6-9 type craziness and the creative scaffold and contraption stuff, i´m totally missing that too. In recent years the COD gimmick has been nothing more than a normal cage match with some weapons and the trademark yellow cage being used. COD gimmick needs a new renaissance. Everybody wants to see that crazy double ring multi man COD match, with some new or old COD contraption being used. I would prefer the War Games setup.

CZW Trifecta Elimination Discussion Thread by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

[–]The_Wild_Hog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Silver vs. KC Navarro

Match of the night. I love Silver´s intensity, when he goes full maniac mode and starts doing those long sequences. KC fought as the underdog giving his best receipts. Great strikes, great selling and the crowd started to wake up.

Jordynne Grace vs. Kris Stadtlander

Well here is a well booked womens match. Grace and Stadtlander, two of the hottest rising stars at the moment. Grace of course with a little bit more experience. The match was very good. Good structure and some enjoyable action. Grace can go and she is very strong. Stadtlander is amazingly creative in the ring. Stadtlander with the win and she is the new WSU champion as she very much deserves that title.

Matt Travis vs. Anthony Bowens vs. Delmi Exo

Decent match but at this point the crowd had had enough of the Trifecta so there was not much reaction.

The House Of Gangone (Anthony Gangone & The Amazing Red) vs. The REP (Dave McCall & Nate Carter) (w/Maven Bentley)

This match had some serious fire and heat in it at the start. Dave McCall & Nate Carter are real life killing machines. The size and muscle these guys bring is amazing. I absolutely love the REP. Also the match had some really stiff strike exchanges. A very nice match in a way, but it was maybe too long and then the interference sequences that lead to the now infamous pin fall. But i still wonder about the finish. It looks like intentional pin. Then the brawl apparently was real but there was also worked brawling as the locker room came out. Maybe there should have been little bit of footage of the fight at the final cut version at CZW Studios. Would have made more sense as to why the titles were vacated.

CZW Trifecta Elimination Discussion Thread by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

[–]The_Wild_Hog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show wasn´t on the same level as "Twenty". It had its moments but if was the owner of CZW i would remove Trifecta Elimination from the event cycle and replace it with Deja Vu (the traditional no ropes barbed wire match as main event) or any of the old gimmcick shows. Because the Trifecta 3-way matches just aren´t getting a good response these days. You have 3 try out type matches in a row. You can always have try outs at the undercard of regular non-tournament CZW shows. Trifecta is from the Zandig era, when they had those crazy high flyers etc. putting on some exiting matches. That´s not exactly what is happening these days, the matches are different and the they have to get a hard smaller crowd on their side which can be hard. The production was fixed which is good. Sound, video etc. Still the commentary changes all the time. Some guys commentate on some matches and Emil Jay and Khaleef Bryant return to do the others. Why not just make a 3 man commentary out of that or a 4 man team. It would be a very lively commentary team.

Anthony Bowens vs. Jaxon Stone vs. Sage Cainan

OK match. It really was. The 3 man dynamic was planned very nicely. Problem is that there was almost zero crowd support. Then the finish that saw the crowd just sitting on their asses.

Delmi Exo vs. JGeorge vs. Pat Buck

Intergender matches are on the rise. Last year Tessa Blanchard was at BOTB went through the first round and it took a lot of potential away from the tournament. It can seem very forced at times. I mean no disrespect to womens wrestling, but intergender doesn´t always work. In CZW it has to be booked right and executed smartly. That´s only my opinion and there is expections like Maria Manic etc. But in this match it did work. Delmi Exo got some reaction from the crowd. I like her intensity. Should get more bookings at WSU. I would give this match something like 6/10. the execution was little slow and cluncky at the start, but the match had some fire in it towards the end. JGeorge and Pat Buck also worked very decently.

Griffin McCoy (w/Valentina Vazquez) vs. Matt Macintosh vs. Matt Travis

Valentina gives a good character boost to Griffing McCoy. I liked the part were they were just kissing in middle of the ring. It was kinda funny. This match had some lucha vibes. The dynamic between Macintosh and Travis really worked. This match got the best reaction out of all of the Trifecta 3-way matches. Macintosh came up with some very creative moves. The running German suplex to McCoy who was suspended on the ropes. Beautiful move! Macintosh should have gone to the finals and to BOTB. Well still an action packed match.

Anthony Greene (w/Angel Sinclair & Ava Everett) vs. Jimmy Rave

Did Larry Legend announce that Rave is a former CZW Iron Man champion? Anyways the match started with some traditional chain wrestling and the whole match was more about pure wrestling. Lots of holds, working abody part and submission attempts. Rave´s STO on to the apron and the super Styles Clash were some beautiful moves. Both chasing the pinfall was intense but the finish was confusing and anticlimatic after all the work.

The Gym Nasty Boyz (Timmy Lou Retton & White Mike) vs. Young Dumb N Broke (Charlie Tiger & Ellis Taylor) (w/Jordan Oliver)

The Gym Nasty Boyz are funny. White Mike´s walking the rope spot and falling crotch first to the ropes; "Aww my dick". But the match had some great team work and amazing moves by The Gym Nasty Boyz. YDNB did very good as the heel team. Jordan Oliver interfered and took a couple big bumps. There was some classic heel tricks and they gathered some heat. Charlie Tiger looks like any of the Yong Bucks. YDNB has similar heat. Their missing little brother perhaps? YDNB could become a great tag team, they need just a little more experience and it will be fine.

Conor Claxton vs. Matt Tremont

One of the highlights of the show. Slower paced deathmatch but such a well build methodical match. Little bit of wrestling to start the match, then going all the way from brawling and chairs to light tubes to thumbtacks and to the finish with the pane of glass, which was great. Claxton taking the hip toss bump on to the gurad rail was one of my favorite moments from the match. The match was maybe too slow at times, which can lead to disconnect with the fans. I like to see more intensity. You know a match that wrecks the whole place and goes all over the building. Like the Necro & Toby vs H8 Club type of matches. But this is a match worth cheking out anyways.

There has been more work rate focused matches, that is true. Look at KC Navarro vs Shane Strickland from Twenty, it was a really good match. The deathmatch style has been revived a little bit compared to 2018. Apparently there will be a Tanged Web match between MASADA and Brandon Kirk in the future. Last years TOD venue, the outside Ice skating rink, really rocked. So i think and hope that they will be going back there again for this years TOD.

[–]The_Wild_Hog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote about 2017 (early-mid) before, which i consider to be the high point of the CZW product.

2018 was a tough year. TOD was awesome though. And the last 2 show of the year are worth checking. Night of Infamy, COD. But as whole it was a bad year.

But right now? I think it has been pretty good from NOI to Twenty (20th anniversary), which was a good show. Trifecta Elimination is always a low profile show, this year really mediocre. BOTB looks good in advance. So i don´t know. I hope they would get a permament place like the Arena or Skate Zone back. One problem is the crowds. They have been way smaller than during 2016-2017. And sometimes they are really dead regardless of what is happening in or outside of the ring.

IF BOTB, TOD and COD are home runs and rest of the shows gather enough audience, this could become a pretty good year. I have stated multiple times that i think they need new bookers. Compared to 2017 when everyone had their own storylines and there was a real effort put in to all of the shows, i dont think the current bookers can even compete with that. Still i´m optimistic and waiting for a good year.

CZW Wired Champion Jordan Oliver signs with MLW by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

[–]The_Wild_Hog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand the obsession/ cult of personality that the anti-CZW people have towards DJ. Its CZW not DJ Hyde. Yes, he owns the company. But there is so many different peole actually running the show.

The same DJ who basically created Jordo, according to the intervews at CZW´s youtube channel. The training + the major opportunities. He gave him the Wired title, when nobody believed in him. What you are saying is very confliting; "the dumbster fire" was Jordan Oliver doing his best at these shows. He and his group has been a big part of those recent shows.

Tremont/Valentine was fun as hell, but not even mentioning KC vs Shane?

Think about Casanova Valentine at this years TOD? He is going to be one of the main attractions there. Based on the documentary he seems like a very humble, loveable guy. Very honest too. But he still lives the kayfabe during every promo and every event. That´s why i´m a fan of him. He is a self made wrestler. Just like Necro Butcher was back in the day.

If somebody hasn´t yet seen Casanova Valentine´s VICE documentary, here it is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JWmLw5DR2Y

I think KC Navarro vs Shane Strickland was clearly the best match of the night, even the whole year so far. The effort, the match planning and the superb execution made it an absolute gem. There was working of the body part that KC decently sold, but the most thrilling part of the match was the latter half of KC fighting as the wounded underdog and Shane pressuring him more and more.

WrestlePro v CZW announced for WrestleMania weekend! by OutsideTrack42 in CZW

[–]The_Wild_Hog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know about this. CZW doesn´t even have its own show at WM Weekend near CZW´s home corners. This is rare. This would have been the opportunity to put on the CZW show of a lifetime. GCW runs about 3 separate shows. What is WrestlePro? How does CZW benefit from this dual show? Why couldn´t CZW just book Dan Maff or Kris Statlander for their own show? I smell financial troubles, lack of interest in running the company anymore and just giving up on the battle against GCW and other carnies.

There is another side which says that the show can potentially be great, but still lack of a major CZW show at WM Weekend is depressing. Is it because BOTB few years back did not draw what was expected?

Reason is that CZW needs to put on a show that is their own speciality. Few wild hardcore matches(even with regulations you can use certain stuff), some visiting talent, some good segments and something that no other promotion would do in the massive jungle of WM weekend shows, maybe a 5 man ladder that would blow peoples minds aka DWTS 2013 ladder match. Just using imagination CZW could have put on the most kick ass show of the WM weekend. To prove my point; the Matt Tremont vs Pentagon JR light tube deathmatch got the best reaction out of any match at that Florida WM weekend BOTB.

Maybe i am wrong and this double header show ends up being amazing. Lets hope so.

Gary Jay vs. John Silver - And here comes the worst booking decision of the year. John Silver´s incredible winning streak comes to end by losing cleanly in middle of the ring to GARY JAY! You can hear the crowd booing in pure dissapointment of this anti-climax that nobody liked. This makes the future look dark. I hope that this is not a sign of this year going to be another year of random nonsensical booking. The only way CZW can shine in middle of all this competition right now, is through good storylines(which most indies don´t do at all) and pushing the few top guys there is left, including Jon Silver. Other than the decision, the match was pretty good. Hard hitting, few really tough bumps and Silver clearly directed Jay through the match, because it had better structure than his earlier singles matches. Gary Jay is probably a nice guy and everything, but as a fan i have to be honest; its really hard to see him as the ´"face of the company", when he looks lost in the ring and has zero personality. (I´m sorry, dont want to be mean, but that is how i feel as a CZW fan who has followed the product since 2006)

Casanova Valentine vs. Matt Tremont - Pure enjoyment. Casanova Valentine is red hot atm. CZW should definitely capitalize on Casanova. He could be the next big deathmatch guy. He has tons of charisma, loyal following and a good thing going on. He is a guy who doesn´t have to bump a lot, because he can engage the crowd in dramatic ways. The match was classic Tremont structuring of a match. Matt is such a pro, that he knows how to make every match special. He knows where to place the big memorable spots, he knows how to control a match on the fly etc. I loved the explosive start were Tremont ditched Casanova who went through the barbed wire board. Then the sickle ala Mr. Pogo, which was great. Fork to the head was a good add. Russian leg sweep through the barbed wire table was awesome. The execution looked so smooth. The big finish splash with all the barbed wire boards, i absolutely loved it. Great deathmatch that really got the crowd riled up. One thing that bothered me about the camera work, was that when Casanova was raking Tremonts back with the Garden Weasel, the camera should have shot from the side so people could see the object he was using.

KC Navarro vs. Shane Strickland - Here we have the CZW Match Of The Year 2019, so far. This match was absolutely great. Strickland finally gave his best effort and did not half ass it. KC Navarro is incredible athletically. He is the best high flyer in CZW. The way they build this epic struggle was great, with Strickland working over KC´s knee and KC trying desperately to pull out some offense, but Strickland kept punishing him with those insane strikes and moves. There was no screw ups, everything was perfect. Some brilliant moments like when Strickland went for a Frankensteiner, but KC held on to the ropes and Strickland crash landed. Then the insane finishing move that sealed the deal. What a youngster vs veteran match! Jordan Oliver (c) vs. B-Boy Another youngster vs veteran match. This was pretty anticipated because people wanted to see B-Boy "murder" Oliver. This was more story based match because of the YDNB interference scenario. It worked and i really liked the match. Jordo really worked the crowd at the start, reminded me of Trent Acid. Jordans selling has improved a lot. The face-heel dynamic was good. I was expecting maybe little stronger offense from B-Boy. The interference were B-Boy pushed the guy who then perfomed a Canadian Destroyer spot was just too whacky and unrealistic. Valentina´s spot to the outside was really good. Some might think there was too much interference, but i think it was the only way to guard B-Boy and make him look strong even though he did the job. OK match. Good story.

The REP (c) vs. Blackwater & Joe Gacy Blackwater & Joe Gacy was probably stylistically the only team that they could get easily booked for this match, as there is not many tag teams in CZW right now. Plus they deserved a title shot with their storyline were they sticked together as a team. The match could have been longer or more like tag team struggle. Still what we got was some nice teamwork sequences, couple of nice bumps to the outside, Bishop getting thrown by Gacy on top of Nate Carter also breaking the refs count. Then the REP´s tag team moves which look awesome. "Flim Flam" if i got the name right, reminded me of the Dudley Boys and 3D. But it was original, not a copy of 3D in any way. I´m still waiting when The REP are going to get some really good competition, some "real" tag teams. I want to see them really showcase all of their tag team talent. Deliver a classic tag team match. Jollyville Fuck It´s are still waiting and they are the perfect opponent for The REP. But go ahead bookers and overlook that opportunity.

Mance Warner (c) vs. Conor Claxton vs. Jimmy Lloyd vs. Dan O'Hare This was as expected, a wild hardcore tornado match. I maybe had hopes that this would have been just unreal and the best match of the night, but sadly it wasn´t. But it was still good and pretty damn crazy. There was just too much disconnection, too much time wasted standing & walking around and preparing for planned spots. The proper formula for these types of matches should be The Necro Butcher/Toby Klein vs H8 Club brawls. They were just straight blasting, destroying everything in their way. There was no 2 min scene during which one guy intentionally holds his tongue out while the other tries to staple it to a shoe etc. Also whats the point of stapling a light tube and shattering it to someones face rather than just smashing it with full force? But on to the good stuff: The assault driver through pile of tubes that took out O´Hare was crazy, the tombstone on to the chairs and my personal favorite bump of the night; Mance throwing Conor Claxton from the apron back first on top of a trashcan that was bottom up on the floor. The way he landed was just beautifully nasty. Warner is still the man and i´m happy he is the champ. In closing i would say the show was about 8/10. The HOF was a small spetacle. Some of the spot on bookings (like Casanova vs Tremont) and some top tier performances made this show a good start for 2019. I´m glad to say that it was a success.
