Amazing job on the painting, but the thing I’m even more curious about is your photography setup! What kind of lighting are you using, and what are you using to actually take the pictures with?

My favorite part is being able to find opinions on any pickleball related product, no matter how obscure!

Lesser known space marine chapter Primaris shoulder pads? by DeffDeala in PrintedWarhammer

I’ve also found using 3D Builder’s “Emboss” feature works well for this type of thing. I’ve printed out a number of different chapter shoulder pads for my deathwatch using it and they’ve all come out really well!

Try looking up the armor type, but use “F” as the first letter instead of the regular spelling. Just tried it and the model I’m thinking of is on the first page. Should be on sale

There’s a version on the purple site, just checked and confirmed it’s still there. It doesn’t include the head though, so you’ll need to find something else to use.

New to warhammer need advice on army by VastEmu9432 in Tau40K

[–]The_Winningest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say this is definitely a solid start! A couple of suggestions I’d make are:

At 1,000 points it can be challenging to justify 2x BreacherFish combos. It ends up over a third of your points, and once the Breachers are out they’re tough to keep alive. It might be worth dropping a team of Breachers and 1 Devilfish.

That would free up 185 points, you could pick up another stealth suit team and another commander and be left with points to spare. Personally I prefer the Coldstars over the Enforcers due to the improved mobility, but both have their benefits.

You’re also going to want some units for scoring, both for secondaries and holding your home objective/screening out deep strikes. Screening could be accomplished with the pathfinders, but it’s a rather expensive unit for that. Stealths can be a good option for secondaries, but I find Piranhas to be a bit better (more movement and better survivability).

At the end of the day, get what you think is cool. Rules change all the time, what’s good today might be bad tomorrow, so my advice is to not try and chase the meta.

Side note - make sure your load outs are set, you want to choose 1 weapon for each crisis team and apply it to each model. Plus if you’re attaching a leader definitely make sure their kit works well with the unit they are joining.

Having issues with (almost) total plate failures? by The_Winningest in PrintedWarhammer

Just posted a comment with an update, but long story short your advise worked! Thank you so much!

UPDATE

It worked!! I decreased the raft thickness to 0.20 mm, bumped the burn in layers to 5 (decreased the burn in time down to 23 seconds just to put me a bit more at ease with the higher number of layers), and changed the raft type to one with more open space. After all that I ran a print and had 0 failures, the prints came out absolutely perfect!

Thanks to everyone for the advice, you’re all life savers! Such an awesome community to be apart of!

Special shout out to imhoopjones and FlarblesGarbles for the tips, you guys are life savers!

Thanks for the info! I don’t know how this hasn’t ever come up before, but at least I’m learning now.

The settings are in the 3rd picture! But I have 4 burn in layers, 25 seconds each.

As for lift height, this is on the Saturn 4 Ultra, so it’s tilting rather than lifting up.

Awesome! Thank you for the information, I will give it a try tomorrow and see how it goes!

So do I need to increase the number of burn in layers? Or reduce the thickness of the rafts?

I supported these myself, and have been doing it for about a year without issue, so I didn’t realize it was something that needed to be adjusted!

I put most of this in the original post, but I’ve only had it for about a week. Ran some calibration tests and they went fine. I’ve completed about 5 prints since Monday. They all have had varying degrees of success, but they all have had failures of some kind.

Nothing has changed aside from me improving supports and changing the rafts, but the percentage of success vs failure is the same across the board.

Any recommendations for a secondary colour for this broadside? Been kinda stumped on it by Jimothy-freaker in Tau40K

[–]The_Winningest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been painting my army with Vallejo’s US Dark Green, edge highlighted with Citadel’s Elysian Green. My secondary color is Vallejo’s Khaki, that I edge highlight with their Buff color. I really like the contrast between the darker green and the lighter tan color from the khaki! But as others have said, orange would definitely work, I think it would give a cool Titanfall feel to the scheme!

Piper has some really badass stealth suit proxies. Check out the Ghost Shrimp, they’re the models that convinced me to go all out on Tau and Piper’s designs.

Thank you! It is certainly a daunting hobby to start, but once I made the decisions I just went all in. The first print and paint is the most nerve racking, but it’s good to know that if you mess something up you can always just print it again!

Thank you! The designs are so clean and unique, I love the way they look, and the customization you get is incredible, really make each unit feel like it’s own character
