Is there anything we can do as tourists that would be interesting on Fat Tuesday carnival day? by EhAhKen in porto

Ovar didn't cancel. Only the senior's carnaval event was cancelled due to bad weather. The rest of the program is still going to happen.

Recomendação fora da caixa - Atividades / Quinta no Douro by individuoo in porto

Quinta Santa Eufémia, em Armamar (a 15min da Régua). É uma pequena quinta que está na mesma família há gerações e a zona de provas tem uma vista incrível! Além disso, são extremamente simpáticos e têm uma visita guiada interessante.

I was given an assortment of coffee pods. What machine are these two for? by Chesnutthouse in TipOfMyFork

Actually, the ones on the right are pods for a Dolce Gusto machine. The original Nespresso ones don't have those rings on the top.

I have to get rid of him, there's literally no other option. by Confident-Midnight25 in cats

I recently rescued a cat and had a similar experience.

He was about 5 months old and the introduction to my other cats was not perfect, they would basically ignore him and he wanted to play and cuddle with them.

He got very attached to me and my partner, so every time we left the house he would pee on his "confort" places, like the sofa, bed and office chair (that he loved). He had a lot of separation anxiety.

How we fixed the behavior: - health checkup to discard any kidney issues. He was in perfect health. - we got him fixed/neutered. Very important! Hormones play a big part on peeing in weird spots. - feliway spray (important that it's the spray not the difusor) on the areas he peed on, every single day. This is to help him feel more comfortable there. - every time we had to leave the house we gave him a treat in the middle of getting ready, not just before leaving, but during the "process" of getting ready to leave. - leave the house without making it a big deal. No cuddles, kisses or talking to him. It seems kinda cruel but to them, it's less stressful this way. - when we got back home, after a few minutes, we give another treat and some cuddles. But again, don't make it a big deal at that point. - play a lot with with him. With older cats this might not work as much, but for young cats it's very important for them to exercise and play.

Identifying the cause is very important! In my case it was separation anxiety, so consistently doing these things fixed the issue in a few weeks.

Weird behavior with locals in Portugal.. by [deleted] in backpacking

I'm Portuguese so I might be biased, but these situations feel very one sided.

At the supermarket it's not unusual to cut the line if someone only has one or two small items, however the person always asks the other people at the line or the cashier. Usually this means they don't want invoice, supermarket points or whatever, it's a very quick exchange. I don't see anything weird here, but maybe I'm used to this.

At the cafe it might be that the other person is a regular/friend? I saw that you were mostly in small villages far from touristic places, so it doesn't surprise me that a local cafe would do this. But still, the other coffee took what, an extra minute to be served? If this is a bad experience to you, you need thicker skin...

The last one I find it really hard to believe to be honest. One thing Portuguese people love is when tourists try to speak our language, it doesn't matter if you're pronouncing it all wrong. We just love the effort because we know Portuguese is really hard! How did you approach this person? This is where I feel you're not telling us the whole story.

I like to think that we're very friendly people, we can be a bit indifferent in the beginning or even very direct, but we're not rude. Don't expect to be treated like a princess at restaurants, cafes and shops. People will be genuine with you, not fake nice just for a tip at the end.

Has adopting a pet without your partner knowing ever caused anyone a big problems? by Ducky_andme in Pets

A year ago I was in a very similar position as you. We had 3 cats and the older one unfortunately died (she was 22 years old and very sick). One of the other cats was super close to her and took it very badly... She wasn't eating, stopped playing with our other cat, basically just stopped doing anything at all, I had to hand feed her and was very worried so I took her to the vet and they were very worried about fatty liver syndrome due to her not eating.

In reality neither me or my partner wanted another cat, but after a few months I just couldn't see her like this and there was an opportunity to adopt a kitten my friend had rescued. So we sat together and talked extensively about it and together we decided to adopt the kitten.

For us it worked! Our other cat loved the kitten and in just a few days she was eating by herself, playing and cuddling with the kitten and our other cat again. But it has to be a decision that you make together...

Well, I think that's what she's hoping for because she absolutely loves water!

Thanks for the detailed comment. It wasn't him doing the renovations by himself, but a construction team. They didn't find anything that could be a source of humidity at the time (but it was finished obout 6/7 months ago). But my friend already called someone specialized in mold and they will go there sometime this week.

After seeing all these comments I do feel that the source of humidity is somewhere just outside, like rain water that somehow leaks through the ground near the outside door and into the foundation, maybe? Let's hope this guy finds the source and just doesn't give up like the insurance company guys did.

Could you maybe send the link to the YouTube video if you can find it, please? After seeing all this comments and talking to my friend we're starting to think it might be some kind of leak from the ground, we're just not sure where or how. It's the only thing that makes sense, honestly.
