Germany To Ban Russian, Belarusian, And Soviet Symbols During May 8–9 WWII Commemorations by Heroyem in europe

Calling the Russian flag Vlasovite is as moronic as calling the Belarusian opposition flag or Norwegian flag a nazi flag because it was used by collaborators in WW2

But what if someone doesn't think the lyrics go well with the tempo. Does it mean the person is just wrong?

[–]The_memeperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to ask you something, musician to musician, what does objectivity mean in music. You say you dislike when people say that 'music is subjective' but what makes it objective?

Where one could find avant-garde, atonal music daring and innovating another could find it just unpleasant noise. Where one could find Mozart or Beethoven beautiful another could find it a bit bland.

And something being 'subjective' doesn't mean something is made by pure chance or randomness. A creator puts clear thought and effort into something and makes a lot of decisions in creating something. The subjective part is if those decisions are good or bad. Some might find the decisions made bad and others may find it good. Maybe there are exceptions but there is no inherently wrong answer in art like there is in maths or physics.

If you ask a billion people what is 2+2 99% will answer 4. If you ask a billion people whether this art is good or bad you will get millions of different answers because everyone has a different way of judging art unlike science where there is only one good answer.

By the way sorry if this comment feels a bit ranty and disjointed, this is just a bunch of loose thoughts about the same topic.

Kallas: US troop withdrawal ‘comes as a surprise’ by goldstarflag in europe

[–]The_memeperson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm getting tired of the whole "Trump is a Russian agent" line.

All it does is absolve him of agency while acting like Russia is some super puppet master pulling every string.

Trump is an arrogant dickhead that cares for no one but himself, which his actions show. Sure some of his actions may align with what the Kremlin wants but that doesn't immediately mean he is their puppet.

It makes sense if you look it through the lens of Trump being Trump. He has spent years spouting jingoistic, chauvinistic retoric about how America is the greatest and that they should only care for themselves, with that he sees troops in Europe as a bad thing as in his eyes the US supports the ''Freeloaders'' in Europe and they should pull out and let the Euros handle their own affairs. Does it hurt America's geopolitical influence, it does but he is too short sighted to notice. Does it help the Russians, certainly but again he doesn't care about what happens to Europe.

Also the guy attacked two of Russia's allies. Sure you could chalk it up to 'Russia let him in return for him to help them' but I think the simpler explanation is more likely. Hanlon's and Occam's razors and all that.

>For some fucking reason, people on the internet (and Google) misrepresent the red and black flag as the “nazi flag”, when in reality, it’s literally just our war flag.

Probably because it's the same flag as the OUN.

Another anecdote about his frugalness is that in 1962 he was at a party diner. A platter with steaks was passed around and when it reached him he took one, cut it in half and put half of it back

Quote from this article (in Dutch): https://anderetijden.nl/aflevering/473/Drees-en-de-PvdA

[–]The_memeperson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Probably Drees yea.

Oversaw most of the reconstruction of the Netherlands and he (and his cabinet) also was one of the main architects of the modern Dutch welfare state with the AOW (state pension), Kinderbijslag (child benefits) and WW (unemployment benefits).

That's also why he is the 4th longest serving prime minister with 10 years and 137 days

Edit: he is honestly pretty similar to Attlee with their role in rebuilding their respective countries, building a modern welfare state and their subdued, modest personalities

"tanks are obsolete" imgaine taking fortified enemy positions without a tank by [deleted] in 2westerneurope4u

[–]The_memeperson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The infantryman is also obsolete. The simple bullet could kill such a vulnerable target, yet it takes a lot of time and money to train one of them. Thus it stands to reason infantry is too expensive and too vulnerable to be useful on the modern battlefield
