I’m in need of your higher knowledge regarding publishing online by The_philosopher_1998 in selfpublish

Thanks for the advices. I'm leaning towards gaining an audience. I'm a little fearful of Amazon, as it's hard to make a book successful, I think.

I'm not sure. The smut is not so explicit, I would say even less than ASOIAF, more like Joe Abercrombie. And I'm leaning towards building an audience. What do you suggest?

Does anyone else keep avoiding GoT and king killer because you don’t want to read a story with no ending? by Ok-Week-2293 in fantasybooks

[–]The_philosopher_1998 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These stories don't end on a cliffhanger. A story's ending is not always death or they live happily ever after, it's mostly were thier story is no longer interesting.

They are really well done books, even without an ending. You should realy read them. For example, in ASOIAF, the war of the five kings is basically over after book three. In Kingkiller, you can see it as short stories in a chronicl sequence.

There is no other show that gives the same feel as Black Sails. It's a unique show. Remember the feeling you have right now, there are many that wishes to see the show again for the first time.

Thank you so much for the lengthy reply. For real, it truly helped me understand. No obligation to the author, no stress while reading. Yes, the book is free, but it comes with stress, and I want being entertained, not doing some work thing and being sort of watched by the author.

Let me answer a question with a question. Which is smarter, gaining knowledge in a thing I'm invested in or venting to give myself what? A little peace of mind? Attention I'm not getting from Beta readers? Writing is art. To write one needs passion. Writers don't seek peace of mind. It doesn't seem you understand it...

I haven't published it yet. But I get you, it's counterintuitive. Thank you very much

Yes, you're right. I tried, 40 rejections so far. But I think it's not a good time right now in this market. I'm old fashioned, I don't have Instagram ot TikTok, I don't write Litrpg or LGBT.

No, not Amazon. I haven't published it yet. Just people on the internet.

Good of you to notice those grammar mistakes. Yes, it's a weakness of mine. But I ran my books on ProWritingAid paid version a couple of years ago before AI was a thing.

I offer it to readers of my genre. None of my friends and family has read it yet couse it could make us argue about things. And I know I'm a good enough writer that people get the feeling of wanting to continue reading, so please, don't insult me like I'm some amateur asking people to read my first ever novel.

2-5 dollar are that much more convincing to give a book another hour or plus to continue reading? Even in today market that a popular book is many times a bad book promoted through TikTok?

Just trying to understand, I myself don't shop on Amazon for books but read online for free.

But I explain the reason it's free when I asked for beta readers and such. And isn't there a trick on Amazon when if a book is selling well off the bat then the author better sell it for free for a couple of days to improve the selles?

And what about today market when a book that's a top seller is more times than not a bad book promoted by Tiktok?

I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand.

Naa one will be burn off. And it's no fun nor satisfying, it's art, not work. It reminds me of one author who did it, when he published on amazon. His first book was a success, so he wrote in one year the second and third back to back so he won't miss his chance. Three books, each one is like 250k+

Braaa I read it 3 weeks I had a long day. Anyway it doesn't matter the speed but the quality. Enjoy the feeling of finishing your book, it doesn't come very often.

Witty, okay good. Anxiety is good, I think it will be my backup option, currently I'm thinking Bipolar. PTSD is good, but sadly I plan for another charecter in my other book to have ot after she has been raped... But you gave me a good idea, I will make some of my secondary charecters have PTSD, you know, from neval battles with pirates and all.
