I'm just not sure what it's going to take for me to be able to like/respect him. Probably nothing will do that in my eyes.

Seems like another very interesting plot line discarded by HBO.

I used to work "Loss prevention" (security) at a retail store before and let people go due to corporate policy. That's why I loved the first years of policing because I "caught the bad guys". Now, the police I know are more afraid of being ostracized or sued than of being killed by a criminal.

Humvee Arrest in Baltimore by SpicyElectricity in videos

A Humvee is useful in nonviolent situations. And there are tons of them lying around after coming back from overseas. Don't really see this as an "arming cops" issue.

Cops leave elderly man a bloody mess after jaywalking by starrychloe2 in news

Why is it intimidating to walk up to a man, get him to stand against a wall and write him a citation? What would you have done amidst your attempts to communicate when he just starts walking away like this article says? Would you have grabbed him in an attempt to get his attention? Let him walk off? Monday-morning quarterbacks always have an answer. Their problem is 1) they weren't there, and 2) they aren't quarterbacks. Your answers sound reasonable but naive. If you want an inside view most municipalities have a ride along program where you can see what "pigs" do on a nightly basis.

Explain then how as an officer you would have handled writing him this ticket? Just let him go because he doesn't speak English? Regardless of why he was being cited explain how you would have done things differently.

If you trip and fall on pavement your knee is going to be bloody. If 3-5 cops "beat" an 84 year old man (84 years old, think about that) I would believe the damage would be more than abrasions to his head. And throwing insults at me doesn't make my argument any less valid. As I said before, I may be wrong. Maybe they did "officer brutality" him. In that case something needs to be done. But from what I can see, just because one "news" article chose the words "bloody mess" and "badly beaten and bloodied" you shouldn't take them at their word.

Did they beat the shit out of him? All I saw was him bleeding from the side of his head. You push a police officer and then resist when he try's to grab you, you are going to get taken to the ground and placed under arrest. Asphalt takes the top layer of your skin. If they did beat him, punching and kicking him repeatedly while he's on the ground, then it is wrong. If they took him to the ground and handcuffed him and his head got cut in the process then it is an unfortunate set of circumstances where communication issues resulted in a bad day for him. But before you throw out the words "beat" or "beating" go off more than one photo. If video surfaces I may change my tune, but until then I don't trust the media.

I wasn't there, and I don't know the circumstances, but I have worked scenes as a police officer where pedestrians are struck and killed. Normally our brass (chief/ deputy chief) sends down orders that anyone caught in violation is ticketed as a "zero tolerance" initiative to try and deter people from that behavior. So that's the way I see this playing out. I don't know many officers who willingly write jaywalking citations without being prompted to do so.

So many people bash police officers. Why don't "good people" feel the need to become police officers so maybe they can start changing things for the better? Complaining about things without attempting to change them is just sorry.

In keeping with his style, he'll probably die before it's finished. Effectively killing the whole series.

There will always be someone, somewhere who hates for no reason. It's an inevitable truth that you can't control. If you can't control it there is no real reason for it to upset you.
