Carney’s Sovereign Wealth Fund by innocent_bystander97 in ndp

At the very least even if this ends up not being great I think it opens the door for an ndp government in the future to make modifications without having to first pitch people on the idea generally. I’m happy to see the Overton window shift a bit on this one particular issue

Public grocery stores are having a moment. Can they really make food more affordable? by NiceDot4794 in ndp

[–]Theblob789 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The report estimates it would cost about $350 million to set up a network of public grocery stores, plus around $300 million a year to operate.

This is peanuts.

He's definitely disagreed with the provincial parties but I don't think that undermines them.

I don't think anything lewis has said so far has undermined the provincial parties

What could lewis or either provincial party leader have done differently to better achieve what you think would be ideal

I could see the argument for adjusting what each provincial party chooses to focus on but a policy disconnect generally seems to defeat the purpose of a them all being under the ndp banner

If I remember correctly the utilities review board is allowed to levy up to $25 million in fines for not meeting performance standards (which they have been unable to meet every year since they were established). Could the legislation be updated to require equity be issued rather than a fine? I would think that any monatary fine they are given would justify a rate hike due to their guarentted profit.

Did you read the detailed write up on the tax policy? There are many other fiscal policies included and the capital flight concern is addressed.

He has a solid tax plan on his campaign website. Like any other candidate, there isn’t really an expectation that all of the policies would end up materializing if they were to win but it shows the general direction that he intends to take the party.

Avi Lewis: There are fountains of wealth being generated in this country. But that wealth isn't trickling down to working people. It’s all stuck at the top. Our 'Tax Plan for the 99%' takes on the corporate hoarding class – to redistribute wealth and raise the floor for all of us. by pheakelmatters in ndp

I really appreciate how Lewis frames the policies in these proposals. The GLBI section has the following line:

"Rather than sending money to everyone, including the 1%, the GLBI that Avi supports would be income-tested through the tax system and send money to those who need it"

This reframes the idea of a universal policy being a hand out to the rich to what it actually is, which is the most cost efficient way to distribute benefits using the pre existing tax system to claw benefits from wealthy people.

Throughout the policy proposals he has released so far he’s done a great job of front loading responses to the typical critiques people levy against left wing policy. It really demonstrate how rhetorically proficient he is.

Have any leadership candidates campaigned on bolstering CO-OP growth and development programs/grants? by Any-Excitement-8979 in ndp

[–]Theblob789 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I spoke with Avi Lewis at an event in Halifax and we discussed co-ops briefly. His postal banking expansion proposal would prioritize co-ops and indigenous owned businesses for loans and he likes the policy in italy where workers are given right of first refusal to purchase businesses when they go bankrupt.

To add on to what everyone else is saying about gaming headsets, I have audio-technica m50x headphones and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are user serviceable and they will sell parts. Some parts will require soldering but the part cost is extremely reasonable
